Only 5 people defeated Liadri
Where did I take this to the extreme?
Sorry, that wasn’t directed at you specifically. It was more of a preventative measure.
I apologize if I am coming off mean :P I am just angry with Anet atm. Given what I have heard about the Anet team and some of my own knowledge of the history of some of peeps working there, I was expecting a team much more passionate in their game then most of the gaming industry which primary drive is more about money.
Sadly, given what I have seen after months and months, they are pretty much coming off as money being more important then being proud of their creation.
For example, programming is a very complicated and delicated process. You are going to have bugs. And when you add stuff or patch stuff, you can create more bugs sometimes stuff completely unrelated such as you add a boss to the game and somehow its creates a bug with certain class skill no matter where you are in game. Something like this happen in WoW with the mage armor skill and something else I can’t recall but was completely unrelated in every form other then both being code.
However, the amount of buggy content in this game that is release, the amount of bugs that have gone unchecked is beyond unacceptable levels for anyone that really truly cares for what the are producing. This is the habit of money is number one.
Now its not to say money is bad, they need to make income too and run the company, but money can be too highly valued to the point of just being greedy. The gaming industry back in the day when people who played games were outcast and it wasn’t all that awesome of an industry, was not this bad and people creating the games were more into what they were doing then money being the main focus. Pretty much like an artist who creates art out of passion then more so for the money but can make a good amount if what they produced is love. Anet has a good product here but it could be far better then what it is.
Some other things they have done I cannot begin to wrap my brain around unless they have next to no experience with MMOs. One time worlds events should of been learned with what happened with WoW. I knew this and already knew how terrible of idea this was but they did not? The lack of commincation in the game with regards to events, when and where, what exactly to do. This stuff should already be common knowledge and I am seeing novice mistakes being made. Learn from others so you don’t make the same mistake and there has been enough examples with other MMO’s.
This is my opinion as person who appreciates art and the quality of making a game, of making a different world in which you want to share.

Someone have some ‘starts’ to win Liadri the Concealing Dark?
@zerotwo and kawrrlll.6249 Yeh, I did after the patch too and YES you can still stand in the back and spawn camp the plunderers. But hey Im not going to judge what you find fun. If you had fun well then you had… fun. I found it tedious and boring but hey different strokes for different folks I guess. You still didnt master it sounds like you got silver and yeh, since you had so much fun with it I question why you didnt go all the way and beat it. I think thats a fair question. But its cool. It really doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things.
And yeh kawrrlll.6249 I do hate fractals, and the few times Ive taken a poll in my pugs, they hate them too. Were all there doing them for the rings and 20 slot bags. I hate that there adding more ascended gear. Because they will probably stick some of it in fractals and force me to grind it even more to have the BIS gear. And yes I do love wvw and will stick to it. But I want to look good and have the best gear possible so that when I lose, I know it was my skill that cost me the match. Not because the other guy had a gear stat advantage over me. Even if that gear only gives you a 5% advantage I want it.
And yes, if my post sound serious, its because theres people like you out there who have such low expectations of whats good and whats fun, that allow Anet to keep cranking out crap. I dont see whats wrong with telling there stuff sucks when it does. And I beat it, and I got 3 skins. I got 2 pistols for my Engineer and the Hammer for my warrior. I didnt get it from the trials though. I played the oh so fun and skillful RNG boxes (I got a ticket and 10 scraps from the boxes, and I bought the hammer skin with gold)
By the way if you guys are so hard up for a challenge why dont you play wvw. Or do you. And if you do, well then why are you so hard up for a challenge? And dont tell me its a zerg fest cause you can solo roam plenty. Sure youll run into the occasional group that will roll over you but its no worse than being ran over by the acolyts on the cliffside fractal when one of your noob group members killed the targeted acolyte, or blasted in the control room of the dredge fractal while waiting on the thief to open the door, or wasted while your team mates try to burn down the door with the flame thrower, or knocked off a platform by a harpy in the uncategorized fractal for the millionth time, or midlessly pressing 1 while trying to kill the jellyfish in the Aquatic Ruins fractal, or running a bunch of wisps to the clefts in the swamp fractal (Ok I have a little fun with this one but the boss afterwards is just boring) OR OR getting hammer by a bunch of pirates that have zero mechanics, a bunch of health and power due to rediculous scaling, and crazy numbers.
Have I made my point?
what’s killing me over and over is the red rings are really hard to see on the wire floor texture. They’re REALLY hard to see at a distance. I’ll blink to where I think is a safe spot only to get instantly killed because you couldn’t see the edge of the ring on the gaps of the floor.
Combine this with the always classic HORRIBLE camera of the game in closed spaces for that “I can’t see anything but my back” FOV, and you get a charlie foxtrot of a fight.
i think the testers got something like 10000 tokens and dont had to walk after every death up to the arena again and then wait 5 min to get 1 shoted again. If you give me that too the content would be fun again! and doable. but like this the hardmodes (8 crystal or t3 5gambits) are just stupid and frustrating.
faking difficulty with RNG is never a good solution!
If the fight didn’t have so much RNG attached to it I’d have been less frustrated trying to beat Liadri.
My build’s not optimal for solo work against high-health targets or surviving consistent damage, fine, I can work around that. I can rebuild and deal with stat-related challenges. Fine. But the RNG of where the light wells and phantoms appear relative to where the AE pie-slices and pull-orbs appear (as well as the RNG of whether I’ll even be able to hit an orb to rally or whether it will just spam OBSTRUCTED OBSTRUCTED, whee) making the length of the first phase anywhere from “reasonable” to “impractically protracted” and, worst of all, the blind effect. I can’t tell what causes it, sometimes it happens rapidly, sometimes just once in a blue moon (pretty sure I got the blind color smear effect about three times in 40 seconds on one attempt), and it makes it impossible to deal with the rest of the fight when you’re randomly unable to see anything.
No. It’s not that the fight is too hard to beat. It’s that the fight just isn’t fun. It’s a dome full of luck-based gimmicks that have no margin for error (or for lag, which is a whole other ball of wax) and, while I’m sure that’s fun for some people, it’s just not for me.
It’s particularly disappointing as I was looking forward to this event when I read about it. Events that are intended to be solo challenges in games like this are pretty much my favorite thing. Then I find out it’s not really much of a combat challenge at all; it’s basically the combat version of a jumping puzzle. Which is to say, gimmicky, awkward, unsatisfying and not particularly skill-based.
To get the Liadri mini you just have to defeat the final boss of Queen’s Gauntlet. You don’t have to have five gambits active.
Regardless why do you keep releasing one time temporary content that is hard that has achievements tied to it :[? You have not responded on this issue yet that I have seen and I know others feel the same as I do.
I was playing this game casually now I have to go hardcore to meet the deadline.
If some of the content is easy and some of it is hard, then there’s something for everyone.
If all of the content is easy, then some players have content for them, other players have nothing.
I’m not saying this to be an elitist – the hard stuff is way too hard for me. I couldn’t even beat tier 2 of the Candidate Trials let along 3 or 4, despite spending hours trying with different characters and builds! But if you nerf everything to be so easy that an old-timer with slow reactions like me can beat it, where’s the content for the seriously skilled players?

diff is you could group up for the candidate stuff….this crap>? you cant your solo.

Finally defeated her! Best kittening content ever.

Beat her on my Necro earlier.
Took some doing but I finally succeeded. This is the kind of content they need to add.
Any Tips on beating her? the lowest I got her was to 25% hp…then I died…as usual, my average I get her to 75%-50% HP…any tips? I play a Warrior + I run sword (for the leap) and warhorn (for the endurance regen/swiftness) + rifle to damage her with…it seems impossible, ive tried 30+ times already
I’ve managed to get her down to 50% HP a few times, but I can’t do more cause when it’s time for me to get moving, I have of course, “Camera in Back” issues…
Lance Delgado Lvl 20 Thief
Finally beat it, took me around 30 tries to accomplish (but practice makes perfect after all) keep going at it and you’ll get better…
I see so many people with the Liadri mini already.
Tried 30 times on my ranger, just couldn’t do it. Almost did it 3 times but couldn’t finish her off. Did it on my engineer on my first try.
Finished on my Warrior. It’s not easy…
I find that endurance regen stuff helps like the food, horn #5, and sigil of energy.
I used Sword/Horn and Rifle.
@zerotwo, Let me ask you a question. Did you complete the T4 candidate trials in a group of 5? And by complete I mean did you kill 50 Aetherblade pirates in a group of 5 (ill even accept it if you killed 50 of the solo and give you an internet high 5)? And if you did, did you find it fun?
Your right there is a demand for challenging content that requires skill and knowledge of the game mechanics. But so far what weve been handed is crap. And it sounds like you and a couple other people on this board want more fun cosmetic skins gated with crap.
The T4 candidate trials were tested before release as stated by devs. Also stated was how difficult they were going to be. I completed the challenge after the first patch with 5 players. No we did not kill 50 nor did I want to bother trying. Some players tried and I applaud them if they succeeded. I found it very challenging which for me is fun.
Why do you think what you have been given is crap? Have you reached lvl 48 and above in fractals? This is suppose to be end game content which is clear to everyone it is not that difficult. We need content that is next to impossible to challenge us once our characters reach 80. Personally, I don’t care what rewards they give provided they are scaled to the difficulty. In the past Anet has had trouble with that.
It isnt a challenge if you only can complete through gimmick mechanics and luck.
If a group event is forcing people to duo it at max it must send a strong message how unbalanced it is.
Lia, on the other hand, is hard, but I dont find it’s reward up to it.
A miniature you wont even use isnt good enough.
Awesome fight.
Once I watched someone else get to phase 2 and saw the pattern the boss became much easier.
So… tier 4 bosses next time we come back?

Haven’t had the chance to do this yet, but this is sounding scary lol. An ele is my main lvl 80 so I hope I won’t be screwed over by this opportunity.

haven’t done this yet, but having quite a bit of fun in the Gauntlet. i like having to figure out the bosses emchanics, and figure out how to beat ‘em. so ig uess i shouldn’t read so much about these fights.. looking forward to giving it my shot!
and yes, seeing more tiers with future returns would be awesome.
i’d only wish the spectators – which seem were the intention of these arenas and “queues” – woulda been abel to see more clearly. to ahve that gladiator kind of coliseum feel to watching a match. with the distance and all the structural design of the arenas int he way, really takes away from watching someone fight.

So what’s the general consensus with Liadri? Is she easier/harder than T3/4 Trials pre-patch (or post-patch)?

If you’re a class that has little access to dodges, you’re gonna have a bad time.

pre-patch? harder
post-patch? easier
Though imo Candidate Trials had the wrong type of difficulty (massive hp pools) while Liadri has the correct type of difficulty (unforgiving mechanics, however, the fight can be beaten through high situational awareness and understanding the fight).
Though some classes have a much harder time than others (cough necro).

Any content which could possibly be too hard for a majority of the player base to complete should NOT have any achievement points tied to it. A title/skin/mini or other item, sure… but not achievement points. Nor should it count for any meta achievement unless there are other choices to complete instead of it. (like how the Dragon Ball pvp achievements during dragon bash didn’t count for the meta)

It absolutely should.
That is what an achievement is.
omg…trolls shut up!
well after tweaking my necros build around to try to be able to survive….he gets past phase 1 then melts immediately in phase 2 since he cant keep up with dmg , avoiding the aoe (no endurance even with buffs from food and norn) and just not dieing. im sry but this fight is a joke and should have been actually balanced , if this is what we can expect of future LS , good luck keeping ppl around…just saying
For me this is way too difficult not sure if its because im not hardcore enough to be able to do this challenge but (im a ranger) Ive tried 60+ times to beat her and i could not do it ive also experienced random KDs that happen during the fight. Not sure what could be causing that. I really want to get the mini but it just doesnt seem possible
It is very important that you don’t have any kind of lag when doing her.. If you are lagging even by just a little bit, I suggest you don’t try to tackle her. She is very unforgiving with the tiniest of errors.

Hard core players put the time and money into this game and should be rewarded with more difficult game play.
So, the causal player doesn’t put time and money into this game? I think you’d might actually find that the casual player puts more money into this game than the “hard core” player, as the average casual player doesn’t farm for gold to get gems so buys them with real money, while the average “hard core” player will do a few dungeons and/or fractals and gets the gems with gold.

While i did enjoy having to change my build (wasting around 5 gold on energy sigils and endurance food for my necro), a few things that a-net continously kitten s up:
Interface screw – That blind caused me to have take a 1 hour break after the 4th try, right after i had one to be ready and take on the “final boss”…
Map problem – all from lag caused on worse net connections since its connected to the ground/zergfest, obstructed for some professions forcing them to melee orbs, bad design and location of aoe indicators, FREAKING WHATS BEHIND THE CAMERA DOESNT EXIST <- main rule of any art, especially in games that have platforming and spectacle fighters
Low counterplay – yes invul might be cheezy, but it should be a viable option for counterplay for other professions vs bosses (Just as DS shouldnt have gottent the absorbtion effect removed), the handicaps (armor reduction, exhaustion, tremors and quaggan) have terrible scailing (being worthless/ignorable on some fights, game breaking on others), Ring of fire not being evadeable, etc
And last but not least Why in hells name make a effect that could cause a stroke to a person playing on high graphical settings?
100 tries behind, a marathon of running back to the arena and after an ocean of tears, I finally beat her with my necro. Now to beating her with 8 throws…
I think I should remove this quote given the recent developement.
Sorry leaving this event behind me, not even worth the time
Before they add in this sort of content, they really do have to test it with all races., and fix the astoundingly bad camera.
As a norn, being inside a small dome basically obstructs 30% of the screen with your character, and if you back up just a bit toward the edges, you can’t see much of anything.

I do worry about the blind causing a seizure in some players – there isn’t even a warning for them!

The point is there are already many many things in this game for the casual player. This event has things for both casual and non-casual. This kind of complaint reminds me of when they add achievements in for the WvW players (achievement starved players) and the PvE players complain. You already have a TON of stuff designed for you if you are a PvE casual, quit being so greedy and asking for it ALL.

Beat her finally after 70+ attempts with my mesmer. My setup was GS scepter/focus, weird as that was. Never thought I’d use that combination like, ever.
Doesn’t seem to be hard at all.

I beated her yesterday with my ele after a few tries so you’re not screwed. I used a fresh air build (0/30/10/0/30) with S/F. Lightning flash, mistform, and arcana shield as uti’s. Together with our contstant vigor from the arcana line and our escape uti’s (don’t forget about earth 5) i think ele’s are in a great position to beat this.

Tip to the developers:
if you have to do a boss where avoiding AoEs is quite important
don’t make us fight on a RED floor.
I can’t even see the circles well…

It an achievement. You generally get achievements for achieving something.
There are many ways to get achievements points and some of them are repeatable so why dose it matter that there are a few you might not be able to get that others can? Achievements points don’t affect your ability in combat so it’s not going to unbalance anything.

Yesterday I finally killed Liadri!
proof:
http://kepfeltoltes.hu/130807/gw216_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg
UI: good luck!
Just succeded against Liadri after about 100 tries.
I’m engi, which is great because of the great sustain by healing tower (pop, overcharge, pick up). Useful skills are Elixir s and the toolkit 4 (the shield), since you can avoid the 1 hits like that.
Also used superior sigil of energy to regenerate endurance.
You need some toughness to survive the auto-hits, so I traited it.
Inventions → Power shoes are kitten useful as well.
Rest of gear was berserk with divinity runes.
First phase is easy with some training.
Just dodge the mobs and throw the cores.
2nd phase seems unfair, but the AoEs have a pattern!
They pop first on the first 50% of the map, then on the other.
That basically means that you can either kite the boss in circles around the map or just from left to right, where you have to look out because of the illusions.
I personally safed elixir s for the pulling thing. If you have 2 people just let the other one tell you, when one spawns. Would make it a lot easier.
The whole thing is just a skillfight, in which you cannot afford making mistakes since they kill you nearly every time. If you have any questions, ask.
as she finished beating me up a mole times.
Let’s try something you’re actually good at.

Because that kind of elitist hardcore thing is what will drive more casual players away from the game.
Harder content is great for those interested in it. In this case, the main problem is that it is the last fight of an achievement chain and sort of a mini storyline. Many casual players may make it to her only to be baffled that they can’t beat her and finish the chain.
Being so close without being able to finish it will make some people very upset. IMHO it is better to avoid that in the first place. Make the basic fight somewhat easier to accomplish but have the mini or some other bigger reward on another achieve such as the one where you beat her after 8 crystals.
I mean, this is the basic fight without any extra hindrances chosen or anything special completed in the fight… why should it be that hard? If you want hardcore, there’s plenty of opportunity to make it harder for yourself there… just turn on Fragility or Squeamish.

You’d have a fair point if the great achievement here wasn’t rolling the right class.
Me, I’m all for hard content. But it needs to give all the classes a fair shake. We can’t balance solo content around guardians.
I kill Liadri yesterday at 11:40 Oclock mor or less.
I wasted 5 Hours and more than 100 tikets. And 2 golds for repair. But finally…
Defeated with Thief bleeds, shortbow, stealth and tons of patience.
