Petition to Queen Jennah
from a lore and role-playing perspective, i think i would rather see players outside the arena boycotting this event. if Queen Jennah is so irresponsible with her coffers that she can’t afford to operate this new monument to herself for only two weeks a year, maybe she isn’t fit to rule.

Quite frankly, I don’t think ANY ruler should waste money on a celebration for themselves. And every single year? Really? I mean, Jennah could put that money to good use, like pushing the centaurs away from DR’s doorstep, hiring more people to keep the bandits away from the farmers and from the water supply, rebuilding that lady’s vineyard… And that’s just Queensdale.

exactly. i totally agree with you. and what happened to all those people who lost their homes in the collapse? according to gossiping NPCs in DR, nobody was killed because Jennah had the area evacuated before the collapse. what did she know that they didn’t? why were their homes not rebuilt? this whole thing isn’t passing the smell test. Jennah has a lot to answer for!

But the petition is to a fictional character, not to a dev, ANet or NCsoft. This thread looks like a lore/roleplaying discussion thread ATM. I don’t think it is against the Code of Conduct. It would be different if it was like “Petition to ANet: Plz make flying pig mounts with lasers kill Trahearne”.

Why are you assuming it’s going to be every year? Have you not read that this marks the 10th anniversery of her on the Throne and it is her first Jubilee. It’s a Jubilee, it’s a celebration thrown not only by the Crown but by the Nation & It’s people.
I see absolutely nothing irresponsible about this. And this has nothing to do with money, or funding and quite honestly I don’t believe that Kryta is impoverished what-so-ever as you see very, very little signs of poverty through out the entire region. A lot of the fault for the lack of support in Queensdale is due to the Ministry’s failure to act, and Minister Caudacus disbelief in equality regardless of social status. The Queen is a notorious egalitarian, as in she believes in equal opportunity for all her people and subjects, and her policies reflect her belief in that (just look her up on the wiki). This is a festive celebration of the Queen’s reign thus far, and all it’s successes as well as a commemoration of the perseverance of the human people & culture through the difficult times that have both preceded her succession/ascension to the throne, and dominated since.
The bandit & centaur problem is very likely linked directly back to the Minister, by the way. The Queen has done everything she can that I think any of us could think of to try and overcome these conflicts so if you want to speak from a lore perspective you might want to listen to the NPC’s including at the ministry, the Queen’s supporter’s in the ministry push to send more and more support out into the region to deal with these problems, the Minister’s supporters in the Ministry are constantly trying to reel in support from outside the city, and couldn’t give two kittens about the common folk. The Vineyard is a great example of this, the Minister is the one rejecting aid.
I very much believe that Krytan’s have absolutely every right to celebrate their Queen & culture’s continued steadfastness and that the Queen would be completely right to throw a celebration for her people that celebrates their traditions and the structure of their society, even though it’s not actually she herself who’s throwing it. It’s a institutional tradition, cultural tradition, etc.

in a different thread Colin said this content was being designed to return each year.
We still want to have some content that can happen each year, our holiday festivals, Super Adventure Box, Zephyr Sanctum, and the new Queens Gauntlet are all intended to be content that will regularly return. The goal of having these in our portfolio of event content that can occur again each year is they allow us the opportunity to easily build on something we’ve already completed as themes for some of our releases for year 2.

Yeah, and the Queen’s Gauntlet can very easily be separated from a Jubilee. It’s the inaugural event for these games this time.
First of all, I don’t think Jennah is a bad ruler. She is not the first (or last) ruler to throw a party in honor of herself. However, I do disagree with her priorities.
And, I’m sorry, but it is always about money.
Beggars and refugees are right under her nose. Go ahead, blame the ministers, they are as corrupt as the Arcane Council, that’s true, but it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter if it wasn’t the queen who “broke” it. As a ruler and a symbol of hope and guidance to her dying people, she must fix it.
So it can’t be fixed. Alright then, since it can’t be fixed, let’s just throw a party to make people forget about how hungry they are, or how the centaurs burned their crops and the bandits poisoned their water! That’s a common strategy used by every single government ever, but just because everybody does that, it doesn’t mean I must agree with that.

Hi guys start a similiar thread in ther german forums under the topic the real pirate vote starts now.
I stay too for a permanet arena. if you look to the lore
1. the guards are replaced by robots/ robots need no salvages or living costs
2. if you look in the history the coleseum in rom was financed by rich suporters
in our case ther would be cancelors who invest the arena stay on tour
3. we are in times of war the people of GF need some sort of entertaiment
4. The arena is a perfect trainig area for heros / heros guys get no salvages from the qeen can be paid with a trash skin for rescruring the whole contry
You see no reasons in a lore way the arena is to expensive

Then you need to hit the history books. Military Parades display the technology, style, discipline, and skill of the solders and its command, giving the citizens pride in their troops, the desire to support or even join the war effort, and of course, the believe that a strong band cannot be defeated and thus they are in no danger, their nation is secure against the threat of war. Royal balls, tea parties, and concerts allow the ruling class to garner support among the nobility, wealthy, and otherwise influential members of the kingdom. Civilians festivals bolsters pride and affection for the nation and its ruling class, as well as grants them a reprieve from their daily grind, which raises moral and trust in the economy. Foreigners who come to the festival will also spend a fair bit of coin, and if nobility partakes, it not only deepens foreign relations and trade, but trust and cooperation between the native classes. If done efficiently, the coin royalty spends holding parties, can gather military might, treaties, political support, or even a greater monetary influx. Think about how the royal wedding positively effected Great Britain.
This being said however, will royal festivals do improve the nation as a whole, they are simply not something that can run for an indefinite period.
^Please, read my third post so that you will see that I know a thing or two about history.
Again, just because everybody does that, it doesn’t mean I have to like that. There are more urgent matters that a simple boost on the people’s mood cannot solve. That’s coming from a girl living in a third world country where people seem to forget about all the corruption when our government throws breadcrumbs and festivities at us.
A funny thing is that I was just walking past the carnival in Divinity’s Reach and I talked to a npc. He complained about Caudecus “throwing a party while there were still so many threats to the people”. It seems that only the Queen can throw a party (again, in honor of herself) and get away with it.

‘’ I say, this is another reason why Queen Jennah should be removed from the throne!
She uses the treasury funds to spend on activities and luxuries while we street rats suffer to even find food!
Think of the farmers who break their back everyday to bring food to divinity’s reach!
Think of the countless amount of gold spent in taxes only to be used for the queen’s entertainment!
and think of the charr who will participate!
and we wonder why tyria’s economy is going downhill?!
This my friends is why we should overthrow Queen jennah! ’’

I’m sure he meant the arena will be updated to support future event themes. You may see it 3-4 times a year.

You think so? Because that would be wonderful. Way better than commemorating every single year of the Queen’s reign for now on, IMO.
That being the case, I wonder if the themes of the decoration will change, too. That would be a nice touch.

I would like to take this moment to correct this mistake you keep making, the festival, is not just in her honor; its to honor humanities survival, the treaties humanity has forged with other races, especially the groundbreaking ones with the char, and to honor the struggles all races have come together for, the dragons. She’s ruled for ten years, and this is her first celebration, furthermore, the celebration won’t recur every year, but more like every ten. So it is nothing like the situation in your country. Yes, people shouldn’t celebrate to forget all their problems, they shouldn’t be brainwashed into not caring, however that does not mean celebration every now and then isn’t a healthy thing, that doesn’t mean its not good to relax and take a breather. Moral is an important part of ruling a country.
Quite frankly, I don’t think ANY ruler should waste money on a celebration for themselves. And every single year? Really? Do you know how many years have passed since the great collapse, the citizens would have been relocated by now, so no one is going to lose their home over this. As for her knowing what they don’t, the throne (as i’m not sure Jenna was even queen back then) was informed by specialist who noticed the occurrence, and immediately took action to save lives. That’s like blaming the navy for launching a nuke, just because they were the ones who shot it down.
It would be funny if the great collapse happens again because it was never investigated. Would explain why the arena is perm content too. Would be awsome lore wise too.
“We don’t want Queen Jenna to seem to be allowing Divinities Reach to be constantly in celebration”
“It may come back in the future if you ask enough, but I cannot make any promises”
It isn’t collapsing by these dev notes.
Also they could have had it as a millitary training simulation so they could continue to develop the “Ai” behind the clockwork soldiers, have backing from the order of the whispers to see how accurate they could make the “illusions” and use the soliders as powerful assassin’s/spies
HELL we could even have an entrance fee.
The crap that was spewed about the mini being a sign of how cool we are and the community built around waiting in line. THAT DOESN’T WORK WITH TEMPORARY CONTENT.
Lines will just be long and annoying now as everyone tries to get as much in as possible… And the hard to acquire mini won’t matter as nobody else will be able to go and see how hard that content was that was only around for 2 weeks.

I think that sounds like a mighty fine idea, to be honest…. lmao.
Take Trahearne and give back Lightbringer Tybalt and his apples!
Cries on the inside
I’m hugely disappointed that this is going away, it could remain, it should remain, I think these kind of challenges should remain in the game for more than a month.
ArenaNet you’ve had months of complaints from people not because it’s difficult (although that is an issue for many people) but because it’s difficult and gone in two weeks (edit: yes I know it’s a month this time). It’s so frustrating!
I don’t care, you can charge admission after the jubilee if you want to, you can turn off the mass events below the boss challenges if you want to but leave the content in the game!
After the Jubilee I wish they could use the building as a practice arena.
Have Seraph and soldiers use it for mock battles to hone their skills.
This way we can still practice with things like crowd control and conditions, but we don’t have to use the expensive clockwork robots to crew the place.
