I’ve made about 30 gold playing the game during this release. I am happy that when I stumble upon a Champion whilst out playing, I have a reason to stop and try to kill it now. =)
Left behind in what? There is nothing to spend that gold on other than vanity skins. All the best gear is/will only be obtainable by time-gated currencies and materials.

Yes ascended gear is obtained through means other than gold but Anet really went overboard. Lots of people probably thought nerfing cof p1 was going to bring about some deflation and stability but the gauntlet ruined that. We don’t know what is involved to craft ascended armor/weapons and many are already speculating ectos/t6 mats(ectos are up ~7s already) will go through the roof and be unreachable for newer players. Will Anet just release more content like this so new players can get lots of gold and then prices keep rising?

While this is true, the champ should be a final boss to an event. While it is true that killing the champs is often the sole purpose of an event (boar, wasp, troll, etc. in Queensdale) it really shouldn’t be. Take another event on the same map, the champ should be the last wave of an 8 wave centaur attack.
It’s lazily produced content.

I’ve mad 200g in a few days from skin drops farming champs THIS NEW PATCH is a TOXIC! inflation generator
Allot of others are making gold by the truckloads.. yesterday a guy got a 333g worth pre-courser from a chest.
Well it’s been stated by a dev that the median player only has made 3g from the patch at the time when it was written. Idk the averge amount, but it doesn’t seem to be that bad overall.
The lower t5/6/core/lodestone mats etc. helps people that are crafting. IMO more of these items were well needed. If you want to make some gold, load up on these now and sell them later. No farming required. If you have lower tiered mats, sell them now, many are going up in price because fewer are being farmed. If you feel lucky use the lower t5 mats to craft rares then forge them for a chance at a precursor. Just watch the market changes, use your brain and you can make MORE than the farmers.
People that say they’ve made hundreds in a day etc. were very lucky (like getting a pre/genesis) or farmed for 24h str8. That’s a very very small percentage of the overall players. It’s getting nerfed soon anyways. It’s not the end of the world.

Ectos are easily obtained via World Events, of which there are more than 20 to do on a daily basis.
T6 Materials are now easily obtained from Champions.
Also, the farms in Crown Pavilion are terrible, unless you count the Resplendent Box farms, which are actually good money. If you want T6 mats and/or a chance at a rare skin, it’s better to go to Frostgorge or do the Ember farm (if it’s working).
Regardless, I believe that the Resplendent Box farm will get nerfed on Tuesday as will Ember farming, so you’re left with Frostgorge or the Orr circuits, which are both friendly as long as you have a high enough level character. (And if you don’t, you shouldn’t worry about T6 mats + Ectos).

All fluff. My ranger is perfectly happy in her HotW armor and T3 sylvari weapons. I am slowly gathering the resources for Kudzu though.
People need to get over this “shiny and new=must have!” complex. Aim to obtain the things that interest you. If you say that every new thing interests you, then no one can help you.

I like these farms when I can bring in a low level and get some fast levels without having to use crafting. Crafting and dungeons are faster but crafting costs something if you don’t have the mats and I don’t like the dungeons much. At least I can get loot scaled to my level as I go and make something along the way.
I don’t feel like doing map completion at the moment.

This is game development 101. Almost every game developer does this once the product is released. The people they don’t need they trim the fat off, because guess what. They don’t need them any more.
The problem is, yes I made 100’s of gold farming the first couple of days
But it killed the game for me, like everyday now just feels like a chore and I hate everything about the game now.
That is why I spent the last couple days playing roller coaster tycoon.
People that say they’ve made hundreds in a day etc. were very lucky (like getting a pre/genesis) or farmed for 24h str8. That’s a very very small percentage of the overall players. It’s getting nerfed soon anyways. It’s not the end of the world.
This is inaccurate. If you were here opening day before they made a change, I was banking 25g/hr in gunatlet (no champ skins or precursor, just standard drops). then they changed the centuars, so it became 10g/hr. That is the ONLY change they have made. In addition some people were farming 4 gambit ooze, which was nerfed, but guess what people just went 5 gambit deadeye and make upwards of 30g/hr, still untouched.
It’s been 2 weeks out of 4 weeks, these ‘itll be nerfed soon’ are bit late.
I farmed deadeye so I could finally get some exotic armor. I got 2 sets of berserker gear for two of my characters. Before that I just ran Masterworks. 6 pieces of zerker armor, 2 zerker weapons, ruby orbs, zerker trinkets, and sigils ended up costing me about 60 gold per character. 60 gold to maximize the potential of a build, not even maximized (ascended), is a lot.
I wish it was a cheap as Guild Wars to get max gear. Getting 1 gold in GW2 seems more time consuming as getting 1 plat from GW.
In Guild Wars it would cost about 12 plat to get your max armor with extra headpieces, assuming you paid for the materials and hadn’t found any along the way. Armor mods were about 8 more plat, and with the god send of perfect salvage kits you would never break gear when removing mods from it. So about 20 plat for a set of armor that would last you literally forever, and you wouldn’t ever have to get new armor for different specs (which drives up the cost of armor hundreds, possibly thousands of times over for Guild Wars 2).
Weapons people could buy for about 10k a piece in factions when including mat costs. With nightfall’s release it got a little more interesting, because you would just find max weapons that you could then use forever and just trade for inscriptions to make the weapon suit your build. Also no need to get different weapons for different attribute specs like in Guild Wars 2, get one and done.
Build diversity in Guild Wars 2 is severly limited by the cost of gear. In Guild Wars, your build was barely tied to your gear except for a couple of very niche builds.
I’m not sure why ANet made it take so much time to maximize the effectiveness of one build… why will people ever change to another build if they feel kitten? Not that it matters too much, because there are only 3 main stat distributions worth running. Bunker, spike dps, and condi dps (condi dps less so).
Anyways, back on track. I agree that forcing players to grind in order to get gold for the things they want sucks, especially something as essential as a build. I’d rather see straight up rewards for content that challenges skill. You complete it, you earn it. The original idea they had where you do a dungeon and turn in 1 token for a piece of armor was a great concept, I hope they get back to things like that and add more challenging content too.

I sort of agree with the OP certainly the attitude is toxic. However as a small guild it’s given us another guild event to do during the week and we get a fantastic turn out.

It is accurate.
Even on the first day with CP if you farmed @ 25g/H that’s 8 hours to make 200g. Most people won’t sit there and farm for 8 hours. You may have taken the 24h str8 thing literally I guess? If so please watch this educational video.
It’s since been nerfed as you said. Gambits have also been nerfed and both probably will be again. So it’s either hardcore long term farmers (very few) or lucky people (again very few)
The first day of many of these patches you can make this kind of gold on the new items if you farm for them. This time it just lasted longer.
Again… the biggest changes that I see are lower mat prices/exotic weapon prices due to the increased supply of them. That’s a GOOD thing. T5/6 cores/lodestones were getting out of hand cost wise. The sky is not falling, the world isn’t ending, relax dude.

For those unclear on the concept, drops like Exotics, rare skins and T6 mats don’t cause inflation. In fact, adding more T6 mats to the economy might depress prices, unless there is also a greater demand. Demand might indeed be up if people are stockpiling T6 to prepare for the crafting upgrade. Anything that sells on the TP is both spreading gold around and taking some gold out of the economy through the TP fees.
What IS adding gold to the economy is increased coin drops from Champions that are being speed-farmed, and anything else that provides a direct coin reward.

Not sure if you played GW1 at release but getting max gear (we are talking about best in slot) was impossible for someone who didn’t farm. I think up until Nightfall I never even bothered to pick up a sup. Rune of Health.

I’m mostly mad that thieves and guardians are the only two classes that can farm Dunwell with 4 or 5 gambits after the nerfs. I feel like I’m losing out on a ton of money since I dont have level 80s of either of those classes.

I’ve been reading threads like made x amount of gold!!! for months now.
I am not saying that you are wrong OP but I have less than 10 g in my bank and I have just been playing the game.
I have done the gauntlet as a challenge -I think I stayed in the pavilion long enough to finish off the meta to get a watchknight, then I left because I don’t like running in circles.
I have actually seen materials since the last patch that I only knew existed theoretically because they have never dropped for me.
I don’t feel left behind or penalized because some players are making insane amounts of gold farming.
The attitude I read about here worries me but I haven’t actually seen any of it in game.
Honestly I just think the COF farmers have now come out of their hole- give it a bit of time, things will stabilize.

just to give you an example.
most people say but gear is cheap you can gear yourself for nothing.
END-GAME IN GW2 is LOOKS and sadly it seems you hav to buy looks for lots and lots of gold.

oh I totally agree that end game is looks and I am a skritt myself
I just don’t feel that I have to have what I want instantly.
I would rather enjoy my time in game and accumulate my gold by what I find fun to do and take longer to get what I want.
I know many people don’t think like that but I do think that at least some players do
Edit: I think the most expensive skins I have are my two Mystic weapons on my ranger- but i made those myself from stuff I had anyway

Only if you want the looks that: (a) can be bought with gold; (b) that are very rare, and that a lot of people seem to want.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I tend to avoid the skins that everyone and his brother seem to want, and go for rarity by combining pieces for a less common look.

I farmed deadeye so I could finally get some exotic armor.
. . . I find it strange, it was much much easier for me to get to work crafting my own than relying on some farm to give me gold enough to earn my way through. Then again, I wasn’t picky for full Berserker’s and went with Temple Armor for karma.
Of course, currently if I wanted Exotic handmade I could do it.
I wish it was a cheap as Guild Wars to get max gear. Getting 1 gold in GW2 seems more time consuming as getting 1 plat from GW.
Not sure if you played GW1 at release but getting max gear (we are talking about best in slot) was impossible for someone who didn’t farm. I think up until Nightfall I never even bothered to pick up a sup. Rune of Health.
Not impossible, but it would require a trip to the Rune Trader. Luckily you could earn your way to the price quickly and you only needed ONE. Max gear was fairly easy to earn if you knew where to look, but max gear with the upgrades you wanted, the skin you wanted, and an Inscription slot was often not a piece of cake. For instance? An Inscribable FDS, max stats, Req 8 Swords could be really . . . REALLY impossible to get.
But on the other hand, other Requirement numbers were easier. Like 13. People really sold those cheap
So for a recap?
Maxed purple Long Sword? Easy. Maxed gold sword with inscription slot with a reasonable requirement (Req 9)? Pfft, find a weaponsmith in an outpost. Maxed Fellblade with Req 8 and Inscription slot? Good luck on a budget.
So let’s see how the price of materials have gone through the roof since the update, by comparing the prices between August 5 and today :
Charged Core : 96 silver, now 83 silver (kind of a bumpy graph)
Charged Lodestone : 2g64s to 2g35s
Globs : 19s to 24s
Giant Eyes : 73s to 74s
Crystalline Dust : 11s to 15s
T6 Blood : 32s to 34s
T6 Claws : 15s to 11s
Dye : 19s to 21s
Point of this : prices dropped a little for materials that could be found more easily during this event (certain T6, some lodestones). The other materials which didn’t have an increase in drop rates didn’t see their price go through to roof.
Exotics and rare ? Players are getting them by the truckload…that won’t increase their price on the TP…just look at the new weapon skins and how some sellers are eager to cut down the price just to be sure to sell their item. In just a day, Entropy dropped from 400g to 189g and now it’s at 43g…

All of these are the result of the permanent champion loot bag feature that came with the update rather than the event itself.
Though it could also be argued that the toxic ember farm is unrelated to the event, as it’s just a result of that same loot bag change.
I can sort of see the point of the op but I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to a korean mmo for one single reason. Like the way the game works or not but GW2 is a LOT more rewarding than korean MMOs are. If it’s like a korean MMO it’s an easy mode version of it.
you don’t understand what a korean mmo is, be glad that anet has given this opportunities to the community. You put time into the game, you actually get a good amount that a player is satisfied with. Korean mmos require you to spend money to win, pay to win usually, this update just allows players to seize the chance to farm up if they want.
Items for the most part aren’t inflating/deflating like crazy other than the newly released items, it’s only mats that are crashing/inflating for the most part. There’s nothing wrong in adding an old fashion grind to the game, a normal player usually makes around 2-3g an hour back then, now you can make up to 10g+ with the new updates.
It’s an opportunity and it’s there, don’t make a thread saying that everyone is doing it and taking advantage of this, because there are a good amount of players that aren’t and are.
If you think GW2 is a game where a level 50 should have the same opportunities as an level 80, or is a game where you can put little or not effort to gain godlies, then you’re playing the wrong game.
(edited by Jeffery.3106)
Giving a guaranteed exotic bag to champions (or legendaries) is a good idea as these champs (or legendaries) had never been touched (killed) before. But sadly it makes dungeon and chain event (who want to do Arah chain, if ember event in the middle of it give you more) look so worthless. Nerfing them is not good idea. Nerfing them will alienate new player or casual player.
What Anet need is to buff up the bonus for a champ/legendary at the end of the chain (let’s say the bag guaranteed you an exotic, 1 g, and 1k karma >>> for example). In addition of that award player based on their participation in chain event: if you do 5 events (lets say chain event with 8 events) you will be awarded with a random exotic, do 3 awarded with a random rare, below that does not gain anything. (with a slight chance to get a precursor). Now what about group event boss ? Same, but the award is scaled up as the boss is scaled up. Which mean more people do the boss, the better the reward you get.
For dungeon, make the bonus from the bag from bosses dungeon worth more as the deeper your journey in the dungeon. For example: first boss same bag as in open PvE, second boss increase in silver and karma, third boss increase in silver and karma and chance to get a rare item, and so on. The more bosses (and beaten) on the dungeon it has, the more award you will get (so if you do Arah 4, you will get not only 3 gold, but maybe you can get 10 g for single run (for example)).

Doesn’t the generic term “Korean MMO” basically mean that you can only progress to a certain point without being “FORCED” to pay RL money on upgrades and boosters to continue moving forward in the game? I know this is being overly simplistic and broad in the term, but that is what I think of when I hear it (but I could be wrong). I have no idea how that is at all similar to GW2.
Also, the claims of “rampant inflation” are just a myth (so far). While there may be specific items that have increased in price, I have noted a gradual decrease in prices of the items I’ve been buying (crafting materials, Greens for the Rustic Flusher, etc.). Per the evidence listed above, my experience is supported by some facts and there is no “rampant inflation”.
As of now, there is no evidence that the minority that is accumulating some increased wealth via this content is in anyway a detriment to the economy (so far). I would have thought that it could have sent the Precursor market into a control battle, but it would seem that the announcement that Precursors will soon be craft-able has put that market into a tailspin (for some items….not so much other), but that appears to be totally unrelated to this TOXIC content.

How about some perspective and context instead. The article references NCSoft lay-offs due to CoH and Aion closing doors. The title of the article is merely an eye catcher yet has nothing to do with Guild Wars 2 nor Arena.net.
You are dishonest by implying so.

So let’s see how the price of materials have gone through the roof since the update, by comparing the prices between August 5 and today :
Charged Core : 96 silver, now 83 silver (kind of a bumpy graph)
Charged Lodestone : 2g64s to 2g35s
Globs : 19s to 24s
Giant Eyes : 73s to 74s
Crystalline Dust : 11s to 15s
T6 Blood : 32s to 34s
T6 Claws : 15s to 11s
Dye : 19s to 21sPoint of this : prices dropped a little for materials that could be found more easily during this event (certain T6, some lodestones).

Ectos are up from @18s to @24-25s last night. I’m pretty sure that the economist that they pay to do these kinds of things knows what he’s doing.

Ecto’s are up in prices because of demand. Not inflation.

Left behind in what? There is nothing to spend that gold on other than vanity skins. All the best gear is/will only be obtainable by time-gated currencies and materials.
well except for permanent items. and titles, and skins and legendaries, and food, and gem store items.
Titles = vanity item. They don’t give any bonus stats or skills.
Skins = vanity item.
Legendaries = what legendaries are you talking about? Precursors? I’ve played every living story and have not gotten a precursor. Even the precursors and legendaries have the same stats as exotic weapons.
Food = can be bought off TP for a very cheap price. Even the recipes can be bought cheaply.
Gem store items = vanity items. Gives no bonus. (the infinite pick/scythe/axe costed about 25 gold each. Borrowing the math others have already done, if you used those items 3 times every day, it would take about 25 years or so for it to “pay for itself”.)
