Apparently this thread was closed with a warning to my account because it had the word “petititon” into it. I’m told in the warning to re-create the same thread with the same words “as a suggestion”, so here it’s. However i did not remember to ask anyone to sign this

After killing the marionette for 4th time today… i was thinking about it’s purpose. It’s just a 2 weeks piece of content? well, then instead of keeping the wurm up and removing the marionette in 2 weeks (as rumoured), we should keep the marionette up (and optional: remove wurms?).

Reasons:
- It’s easy enough to understand by a newbie, yet challenging.
- It’s really fun/replayable since you can only fight 1 of the champions/chains per run (unless a group fails and you are in groups 1-2-3). That makes you wonder how are the other champions and try to see them.
- It’s a big awesome fight that makes players use teamwork and use 5 commanders, giving it some use.
However, the rewards should be adapted.

I am not sure about this but i “think” that most players will choose the marionette over the wurms, and we would like to have the permanent marionette to kill it in our world events rotation.

Any thoughs?

Well, the Marionette is a weapons test by Scarlet. It wouldn’t make much sense for her to keep testing the weapon after we’re done with this story arc would it?

I think scarlet is trying to test the big drill that it’s above the marionette. And the marionette itself is a defense to prevent anyone to destroy it. If that makes sense, the marionette is already tested and working and it’s in it’s final phase.

nawh, we gotta remove the marionette so we can put the giant ice wurm corpse back in false lake.. {it’s actually not supposed to be an ice wurm and is based off a wurm encounter from gw1 and is placed in the exact location, which is neat.. or it Is an ice wurm from our guildwars era simply because wurms like to die there}
although having a pile of enormous clockwork pieces there and having small factions study/fight over it every now and then could be an interesting world-pop-up event..
any past dungeon can be plugged into the game through fractals, maybe in the future they will have certain fractals with larger groups permitted?

Wurm is not unique at all. It just an enlarge version of normal wurm.

Wurm is not unique at all. It just an enlarge version of normal wurm.

Zhaitain, Snorlag and Shatner are all the same, just reskinned and colored differently.

I am guessing the marrionette battle would make a nice boss fractal, with some minor tweaks to allow it to be done by a party of five:

- Party fights its way through a barricaded tunnel towards a green gate.
- Party is transported onto the first of the 5 platforms, where it fights Warden Keeper I. Upon victory, destroy a generator, break Chain 1.
- Party is transported onto the second of the 5 platforms, where it fights Warden Keeper II. Upon victory, destroy a generator, break Chain 2.
- Party is transported onto the third of the 5 platforms, where it fights Warden Keeper III. Upon victory, destroy a generator, break Chain 3.
- Party is transported onto the fourth of the 5 platforms, where it fights Warden Keeper IV. Upon victory, destroy a generator, break Chain 4.
- Party is transported onto the fifth of the 5 platforms, where it fights Warden Keeper V. Upon victory, destroy a generator, break Chain 5.
- Party watches victory cinematic, and a big chest appears.

I agree. Marionette is the best boss encounter in any game i’ve played.

Shouldn’t remove Wurm, instead they should improve that encounter and make it a bit easier for people to understand what they are supposed to do. At Wurm i see no one killing eggs and that is one of the priorities.

Thing is, you need at least 100 people to successfully pull it off, and more like 125 to do so reliably. That’s a number that seems to be very close to map cap, so you’d basically need the entire zone doing this. Maybe they could add some scaling to it … for example not needing to complete all 5 platforms to break a chain, but with this many people required after the shine wears off in a few months this encounter would become the exclusive province of massive mega guilds.

The wurm encounter is also very difficult, but I think once people figure it out it could probably be done with 60 or so.

The Marionette fight is one of the best Boss fight of the game. I would love if it would stay permanent but it need to modification to do so.

1) Lore wise, its don’t make sense if the Marionette stay after the end of the Living Story. Its a defensive measure to protect the cannon.
2) The encounter need between 100 and 125 ppl for doing it. Its fine for now, but eventually the boss will only be attempted by TTS and high population server like Teq or Wurm. Since more ppl like this fight maybe a bit more server will do it, but the number of ppl to be able to do it should not be more that 60-70.

So in order for the Marionette to stay they need to find a reason to lets its stay. Even if the canon get destroy or Scarlet take it somewhere else, the Marionette can be left behind. Hell Scarlet could even leave it as a trap where the Marionette get revive by something on a regular basis, leaving us the chance to cut her down in the future. Lets see how in the next 2 weeks people are able to beat the boss. Maybe by knowing more of the fight we will be able to do it with only 3 ppl per rings, making this fight possible with 75 ppl. But probably it would be better if we decrease the number needed. The Living Story events could block 2 of the 5 lanes, so the fight only need 75 in order to have 5 ppl per rings (or 60 for 4 ppl per rings).

Anyway, Anet should check this fight carefully and use some of the mechanics to improve other World Boss or creating new ones. THIS is the way to create epic, fun World Boss.

My guess is that Marionette will remain until the end of the story arc (that means end of March, more or less, last update is March 4th).

By that is plausible boss will be much easier, we’ll see if people will stay to fight it.

I also like the marionette a lot. It’s perfectly balanced, not too hard or easy and requires some tactics. It’s ironic that such a good encounter is just temporary content and much more annoying one is permanent, but I guess that’s Living World for you.

The mechanics and process of the whole fight makes it far more appealing, especially to people like myself who don’t care to be involved in huge community aspects (I won’t even do teq anymore).

The new Wurm will be another teq. Everyone will flood blackgate or TTS overflows and only the lucky few that maintain their afk long enough will get to participate.

Just have 5 players in the 5 lanes (with accompanying NPCs) and instead of having a champ to solo at the 2nd phase, make them vets.

Its not hard to fit the marionette on the lore. After we defeat the Marionette, Priory/Vigil can use that site to train recruits (meaning train new players to work as part of a team that is part of a event that need different teams doing different stuff.
They can use clockknights using holografic skin to appear as molten, aetherblade etc… that will also explain why latter we will not get more code fragments.
In the middle they can have a giant prototype something that they r trying to build to fight the dragons, them something goes wrong and we need cut the chains to take it down, if we fail all nearby things r going to be killed, including us doing the event. They can put like NPC there that will be there supposedly watch us train, or NPC recruits that we need save because theres no time or other reason to evacuate.
For me seems reasonable… what u guys think?

Here’s the thing: Scarlet’s invasions were made permanent. When was the last time you did one? I didn’t think so. Eventually people will lose interest. And it takes too many people to finish the marionette. I bet by the time it goes away, she’ll probably be beaten 1 time out of 5. Making it a fractal’s a possibility. It’d be hard, but I guess they could scale it so that one person can defend the lanes.

I’d like to see it scaled back and made a fractal. Both the world event and Scarlet’s invasions need to go away soon, though. The story is moving past them, and soon there will be no logical reason for them to exist in the open world.

Actually, the more I think about it, the better I like making the marionette a Maw type fractal end boss. I think it’d take a lot of work to scale it for 1 person per lane as opposed to 20, but I think it’s doable.

I’m actually saying that her invasions need to end when this event ends because she’s sending all of her Watchwork in to power up the marionette. By the end of this story, she should have very few left, which she’ll likely need for something else.

Let’s also consider the fact that she has all her other forces out there as well. And if the weapon goes off… they die just like we do. Everyone in the area dies, after all. Even if the storyline assumes that we stop the weapon test, some of them must realize that the only reason they’re not dead is because WE (the heroes) saved them. They should be abandoning Scarlet in droves.

She simply shouldn’t have the forces to continue the invasions after this.

Hello my fellow Tyrians!
Like many of you I really, really, reeeeeally enjoy the Twisted Marionette mega boss and I would like to kindly ask Anet devs and the loremaster to find a way to keep this battle for good.
I know that it’s heavily tied to Scarlet so I wouldn’t make much sense to keep it after her story arc is over but here are a few ideas that could alleviate this:
1. Keep it as a fractal: It’s a cheesy way to make it permanent because of the potential of the Mistlock Observatory but in my opinion having to modify it heavily to cater to a 5 man group would take away the excitement of the fight.
2. Make the portal overload: After the huge event that would hopefully be the end of the boss, make the portal overload and have that portion of the world be stuck in a temporal bubble. I’m quite proud of this idea because it makes sense for the event to keep happening even with Scarlet gone and it’s perfect of Anet’s “ever changing world” kinda like the wreckage and the chest in Kessex Hills. You could have a vale around the area (like the brand has) and guards spread along it warning travelers that the area is instable.
The boss battle itself is so great because it’s easy to pick up and many big guilds would want to solo it or medium-small guilds could cooperate in true GW2 fashion to take it down. Yes, we do get the wurm as permanent but I think this battle is worth keeping around and would satisfy the hardcore people too.
So come on guys! You know Anet loves feedback and actually listens to it so lets make this happen!

I like this idea. Instead of leaving it exactly as is, however, I would rather want them to keep the location and the mechanics (tower defense + arena) the same, but change the mobs instead. Their level should match the level of the area to allow as many players as possible to participate. The event should also scale better, so that smaller groups stand a chance. Instead of having a champ on the platform there could just be elites or veterans, depending on the number of players in a lane or in the whole area.
By “change the mobs” I mean, that instead of Twisted, Molten, … creatures there could be a dredge invasion, a rabbit attack or stuff like this (something unrelated to Scarlet). If they are really eager, they could even make like four different versions of the event and rotate through those every day.
The marionette can be replaced by some Vigil/Priory/Order of Whispers training device. Let’s call it the Red-Circle-Spam-O-Mat for example. It also should not kill everyone after the time expired, this just does not fit into the theme

Edit: No worries about it taking time to implement (at least story wise). The orders would also need some time creating the training facility if it was them do it.

I’d like to see it remain so it balances out the harder open world raids of Teq and Wurm, but story wise I don’t think it would be the right thing. Maybe just replace the boss/mobs as suggested in the thread already.

A lot of hard work clearly went into making and balancing it, removing it would be a shame – it’s a great advert for the game.

I’d much rather see the Marionette stay as a permanent boss fight, as well, with the modifications of needing 50-75 people or so. The wurm event is chaotic and really not alot of fun. The marionette could stay, if they were to explain that she developed an AI of her own and broke away from Scarlet’s control, or something like that. That is, if we are really going to defeat Ms. Briar within the next 3 patches. I truly hated the wurm event and will not be going back. The marionette fight is enjoyable. Agreeing with the OP!

It’s a fun and mostly well-designed fight, though if they made it permanent, it should get some tweaks to scale to smaller groups better, since interest is bound to drop. I’m sure there’s some lore reason they could make up to justify it. If not, well, there’s no lore reason for killing Tequatl over and over for the rest of eternity either, it’s just game mechanics.

It would be a real shame for all the work they put into it to just vanish.

Sure lore wise it wouldn’t fit, but this boss fight is just way too amazing to throw out after two weeks. As much as I love the lore of the game, I would much rather have this boss fight stay permanently.

I’d also love if it was made permanent… maybe a way to do it would be (depending on how the living story season ends, of course) saying that the marionette had a glitch on its programming and started to repeat the test over and over without anyone manning it (to make more sense replace all aetherblade/molten/toxic mobs with twisted watchworks). Give it some nice rewards so people keep doing them, and rework the death ray at the end so that it only kills those in the inmediate vicinity (keep people in combat so they can’t WP away and escape.. mwahahaha)..

Regardless of whether it’s permanent or not, I’d like a date for how long this part of the LS is going to last. Seriously, if the next 3 parts have already been planned, is there any reason to withhold this information? As usual we are left in the dark on this question. Is there a lack of communication between game designers and community managers?

I understand why it’s temporary. When we finish scarlet it wouldn’t make sense to be there. Though the fact that undead are still around doesn’t make sense either but they aren’t part of the living story. Think she could still leave it as a “present” for everyone

I’ve had more fun doing the Puppet in the last few weeks than any other aspect of GW2 lately. The Wurm is just boring and stupid and the Puppet is a fun fight.And it has Good loot and lots of fun stuff to open chests.

I am sorry folks but this is a joke! I have yet to be able to beat this and I have done it about 20 times. I understand that things need to be challenging but when the commanders won’t even come over to do it that not good. It might be different if I was in control of the situation, but I am relying on 4 other lane of people to do their part. And now when you go there is not enough people to even do the event, it is a failure before it starts. Can someone tell me why it needs to be this hard, when the payout is for such little reward? So the winners need to contact me so I can go with you and WIN

I find the reward to be the fun of the fight, win or lose. Though of course having won several times does improve it. But what do you mean “little reward?” Put together the cyphers you get from lane defense (of which you get even more on a losing fight because the combat goes on more than 5 lane fights), go to Scarlet’s Secret Lair, and open the chests.

I’ve been swimming in yellows and dragonite ore and even cores from those chests, to the point I’m avoiding the fight because I can’t sell the yellows on TP (due to having the TP broken this past week for me) and I ran out of spare BL Salvage Kits for the first time ever. When the TP was working I could get something like 2 gold per marionette battle just for selling the yellows. All that after having a blast teaming up with fun people to do an exhilarating, perfectly paced, just-the-right-length large scale combat.

I’ve had a lot of fun with this event, and I will be genuinely sad to see it go. While I would love to see this event stay, I know that it would inevitably die as people move on to the next “big thing.” These server-wide events are fun while they are in the spotlight, but they eventually become deserted when the attention of the playerbase shifts to something new. GW2 is already full of content that no one takes advantage of. Tequatl still ravages the coast of Sparkfly Den despite the fact that no one shows up to fire a single cannon against him. Its like an amusement park that is still keeping the rides running even after its turned into a ghost town.

I love these events, but the activity it receives will slowly dwindle until the Marionette will just be some mysterious thing that new players will always wonder about but never be able to actually experience because no one shows up to participate.
