Scarlet's Secret Lair *Major Spoilers*
I don’t think Scarlet is going after Primordius. Nothing besides that drill picture hints that she’s even remotely interested in Primordius. If Scarlet is a champion of any dragon she would be the champion of a forest dragon, as she is plant like and not destroyer or molten. Each dragon champion has shown physical traits akin to their Master, Scarlet has nothing similar to Primordius.
I’m also guessing that everything, minus the map and the painting on the roof, is reference to past events for us. The drill would be molten Alliance days, the toxic tower for the Toxic Alliance, and Aetherblade’s represented by the “Do Not Touch” devices.

I think the toxic tree was actually a reference to her vision she saw in the eternal alchemy, where she saw the pale tree get tangled by a big red thorny vine, and then destroy it.
And i dont think that drill was featured in molten alliance
She’s going to drill into the ley lines and blow them up using her laser – thus disrupting/destroying the source of magic.
The broken Asura gate is symbolic – breaking the cycle.
Here’s my take on it. For a little bit, I thought she was maybe a champion of Mordremoth. Then I realized that didn’t make sense. She saw something when she looked into the Eternal Alchemy. And that something is causing her already fragile mind to go crazier. Just imagine you were being watched for your entire life. It’d make you go crazy. How do you stop the eyes from watching you? Destroy the eyes. Her entire plan is to destroy Primordus.
Here’s why it makes sense. The first part of the LS was the Molten Alliance. What do the probes look like they built by? The Molten Alliance. She now has the means to pinpoint the eyes’ location.
Next up we have the Aetherblades. The entire thing started with an assassination to open up a council spot in LA. Where are the eyes? In LA. That spot would allow easy access to the dragon. The Aetherblades also have flying blimps and lasers. This’ll come in handy.
The only thing I cannot understand is why she revealed herself during Queen Jennah’s anniversary. What this proved beyond their being an actual entity pulling the strings is beyond me. Maybe ANet just needed an occasion to actually show Scarlet. Maybe I’m completely wrong. Anyway… She has an entire robotic army now.
With the Toxic Alliance, she was able to get poison, as is evidenced by her table in the lair and the toxic spore thing on her table. Beyond poison, she has krait. A useful race to have in water fights. IE: All over LA.
Finally, Origins. She reveals her plan to attack LA. The probes have pinpointed the exact location of the eyes, not just a general area, hence why there are more and why we can see them. She has her UFO to fly over the dragon and then use the Molten drill and Aether laser to reach it. With the dragon reached, she’ll use her toxic poison to kill the dragon while her twisted army prevents people from stopping her.
tl;dr – Scarlet is crazy and is all about the “ends justify the means.”
EDIT: I had another thought. Maybe she’ll use the poison on the Pale Tree. Basically, everything remains the same, but instead of a dragon, it’s the Pale Tree.
(edited by ViralVarda.2739)
Interesting… she kind of reminds me of The Master from Doctor Who. Driven insane from inside (in his case with the drumming) while still being extremely brilliant.
And to add to that, I think the big red crosses on the bases of the orders, do not mean that she wants to attack them. I think she has either identified them as likely places where the army of Primordus is gathering, or she counts on them sending reinforcements when she starts digging a really big hole. And when all those destroyers start pouring out, those reinforcements will be drawn into a battle with them, whether they like it or not.

Starting to think Scarlet is not actively hostile against Tyria, just indifferent. She is preparing for something much bigger, and the fallout of that project just happens to endanger the locals. So far what we have been doing is containment and cleanup after she is done with each of her stages. Question is what she wanted the human queen for…
my fellow tyrians, the impending evil has been defeated..
we’ve Kbraham’d the dragon and updated scarlet’s cave paintings
she just needed blue ‘dye dye dye dye dye dye dye dye dye’
gift baskets will be distributed to the free peoples of Tyria, as per her ‘master plans’
and Everyone is invited to her magnificent steam powered bakery for grumble cake..
except the dragons, they’re all dead.. that’s progress, hooray for progress
Erm Primordus is already awake though and being dealt with by dwarves. So that Story has been told, kind of a waste to have all this build up for a re-releasing a threat when you have other dragons ready to make to appearance felt.
Seems Scarlets ‘eternal alchemy’ moment is just a dragon influencing moment, Thus became for all intent purposes a minion/lieutenant of Mordremoth, goal of waking it with a disruption or surge of magic, requiring excessive use of elemental forces (hence the elemental themed alliances alluded to by priory). Thumpers are to locate where to drill and use the power, map of X’ is where the enemies of the dragon(s) reside, her allies are tested against these dragon enemies (us) constantly in preparation to become or to develope the dragons true minions to conquer us.
Were she to be a foe of dragons, even one. Then her forces would attack and threaten dragon minions, to learn of then and their powers. Just plain foolish to attack your potential dragon fighting allies (think of USA attacking Britain during WW2 to somehow defeat Germany and Japan.)
The first preview of this showed Lion’s Arch’s gates busted. Not really news, but it backs up what we saw.
If you notice which one it was, it looked like it was either the one to the Grove, or the one to the Black Citadel. I put my money on Black Citadel, because there’s a soldier in the Citadel who points out that they have explosives ready on the bridge just in case anything tries to invade. It wouldn’t surprise me if they also had some explosives ready to destroy the Asura Gate at the same time.

You know, after reading Scarlet’s journal, it reminds me a lot about how Jora described Svanir’s (her brother) fall into corruption and becoming Jarmag’s first lieutenant. Perhaps it’s wishful thinking (I really want to have Mordremoth awake and for us to go to Maguuma Wastes), but it seems as if Scarlet is mirroring Svani’s story, only with the jungle dragon.

Do Sylvari even have a concept of offspring outside what they see in other races? Would such a name/title even occur to them?
A couple of thoughts about what I took away from the first posted pictures:
1. Most of the drawings are what she has already done:
a. The alliances (one possibly unseen so far?)
b. The Tower (not actually a palm tree…more like a tower with some sort of power at the top, like a cartoon version of a radio antenna)
c. The flying dolyak (more of a representation of taking living beings and adding mechanical components)
2. The screens show what is to come:
a. a multi-pronged attack on the Orders and LA
b. The thumpers calling “something” from underground (all she’s raised so far is the 3-headed wurm)
c. Hatred for whatever dragon is on the ceiling, as evidenced by the controlled beginning of the illustration and the utter lack of control by the time she drew the hind end
So, in the end, I feel like she is preparing for a fight against something that has yet to make an appearance, and she’s willing to use the existing races of Tyria and all they have built as her lab rats.
I can hardly wait to see what comes next
I’ve been reading through every topic I could find about Scarlet’s plan and there are two things that we have not discussed about yet.
1) Is E the mender that Scarlet mentions in her journal ?
As far as we know, E is the person who knew that Scarlet was going to hit Tyria hard (first warning back during Dragon Bash). Scarlet has remained very elusive about her plans/personnality/background. The only person who could be informed was the mender she consulted before turning crazy for good (cf diary in the lair)
2) According to Agent Frovik in Kessex hills, Scarlet is interested in the mists. My question is : How exactly do you access the mists with a giant drill ?
As far as I know there is a nice portal that leads to the mists in LA (no need for a drill). By the way, this portal is one of the crosses on the map in her lair. There is something about this portal.
What to think about this ? I don’t know. However these info have been ignored somehow and can help us guess what Scarlet is truly up to. What are your opinion about it guys ?
(edited by VodCom.6924)
I’d pay careful attention to Taimi, she is 100% on to Scarlet’s true intention, according to my gut, and the fact that others ignore her words, which (by following tv show/Hollywood movie standards) means she is right and many bad things could be avoided if Braham the Short and rest of the gang would listen to her.
True, but Taimi has not been very communicative about what she knows so far. She just explained that Scarlet’s actions are linked to dragons….. but everything in Tyria is somewhat linked to dragons.
I do agree with your guts though. She definitely knows more than us.
I will be stalking her day and night, untill I find out all she knows (“Being a norn Faleg steps on the progeny and squished her, so we will never know! Oh, wait, it was only Braham, phew.”)
I think people aren’t really putting two and two together well enough here, Scarlet isn’t misunderstood, after seeing this, I am certain now more than ever I know exactly what shes up to.
Lions arch is her final diversion, her real target, is the Pale Tree.
First notes:
Her short story describes that she wished to embrace the pale tree like a vine clinging to a desperate lover, but the vine strangled and bled the tree (or something along those lines).
The tree said if she didn’t conform she was lost, worse, dangerous.
The design of the drill headed machines symbolizes they are mega-thumpers, more advanced versions of the device that Scarlet is using now to summon the worm.
Her goal is obvious:
The dragon is clearly Primordus, evidenced by the fact it resembles the GW1 Destroyer Avatar that was fought in EOTN.
The drills are her “thorns” and Primordus, her fire bringer, she intends to ‘destroy’ the Pale Tree.
Keep in mind her newest poem…
“The next part will sting” referencing a personal affliction to her, which could only imply she was going to harm her own kind, something she didn’t intend to do because what she wanted to do was to break them free of the Pale Tree’s grip evidenced in her short story where she believes she can set dream and nightmare courtier against each other to the detriment of both.
LA is either a diversion or an advanced experiment, an assault on LA is to see if she can actually lure destroyers to the world.
The Aetherized laser is designed as a mega-thumper, its literally going to fire magic down to the core of Tyria to awaken Primordus, and lure it to the Pale Tree.
I’m pretty confident this is her plan.
Why the Aetherized weapons lab in Twilight Arbor? To create a fleet of airships ready for an all out assault on LA, but also, to have an immediate forward base ready to assault the grove directly.
Why the Molten Alliance? Underground assault, driving into the roots of the tree, studying, researching and finding out its weaknesses, its foundation, bringing it to ruin.
Why the Toxic Alliance? Diversion, a means to an end, she wanted to experiment with hallucinogenic devices probably to unleash on LA to cause mass chaos (We have seen that the portals in LA were destroyed from the teaser trailer).
Why the Queen? Because she wanted to make an example, Watchwork knights added to her army, but also gave her a chance to show off her raw capacity at causing the chaotic and the anarchic right out of nowhere.
Scarlet is a twisted genius, but ultimately if they are using Game of Thrones as a reference we all know what that means:
Somebody dies.

The Pale Tree can’t be destroyed for it is an important piece of personnal story → This has to remain unaffected by the living world. It can be attacked (no problem with this idea), but it can never be destroyed for good.

Rule #3 for fantasy villains: You never, ever, get on the bad side or anger magical sentient trees. It will only be your downfall.
i wonder if the picture is of a drill and if so has she pinpointed that spot that would drain all the water from sea of sorrows as what she is after is under there.
So if she uses it in LA will it cause all the water in the area and surrounding sorrows to drain giving us a means to visit the sea of sorrows if allowed via land, the tengu would most likely ask for assistance then so basically i mean LA will no longer be the hub for water travel and ship trade. And the consortium based castle bit in Southsun would be a obvious choice, giving them a way to introduce guild halls/housing by having us actually build a new trade hub by clearing out alot of the mobs permantly
Alright, lore aside, lets speculate: will the final chapter of the Living Story be massive zerg and lag fest too?

Don’t be so sure…at some point, in order to make a truly engaging story, some important characters are going to have to die, even if that means some inconsistencies with the personal story. There are lots of ways that they could archive the personal story or modify it (or some combination of the two). Nothing is safe; anything could happen.

Well the bookies favourite to get the fatal plot device is Kasmeer.
Or Marjory could sacrifice herself to save Kasmeer, but we are going offtopic here.
So with material gathered in Scarlet’s Lair and in previous releases we do know the following :
– possible attack of 3 orders HQ and the FotM portal (locations of the red “X”).
- Giant drill extravaganza in a near future as well as the aethercanon currently under testing at Lornar’s pass (actual LW release).
– Scarlet is mad (not a surprize) and probably possessed/driven mad by a powerful entity, possibly a dragon. (Scarlet’s diary)
– there’s a mender running around that might know more about Scarlet. Link with E ? (Still in the diary)
– Taimi knows more than what she told us. (She’s studied Scarlet for months)
– Scarlet has a knack with prehistoric art and grotto painting (dragon painting)
– Scarlet is interested in changing the world by destroying it then re-creating it. (It is in essence what is written on the metronome Anet sent to massively). I’d just like to recall that the mists are the origin of the universe in the lore. If I wanted to reconstruct the world, I’d probably look here first.
Theories atm are :
– Scarlet will attack (possibly destroy the Grove)
– Scarlet will dig her way to the depth of tyria either to free or attack primordus.
– Scarlet will nuke lion’s arch as part of her plan to destroy the world with the giant canon (Evon and other NPC are shouting everywhere that this will happen)
– If I am forgetting anything let me know.
My understanding of all this : attack a specific location (the grove, LA or DR) is anything but a distraction. She’s trying to change the world remember. You’re not reconstructing the world by nuking a specific location of the map.
The attack on the orders HQs are only a distraction to prevent the orders or the Pact to defend LA. The true target is not LA in itself but the mist portal. What she will do with the portal is up to your imagination.
The only point that I am unsure of is the status of Scarlet as a dragon servant. It seems unlikely but we are lacking evidences to rule the hypothesis out.
Mad speculation anyway.
Just to be stupid of the abaddon coming bhack theory..
Now, what if, abaddon had a plan incase of his fall? What if he hid a piece of himself in the depths of the eternal alchemy, waiting for someone foolish enough to delve deep enough and corrupt?
So, what if the plan is to sacrifice a dragon to ressurect the dead god?
Another reason i think abaddon is involved, the election itself.
Think about it. Our chooses were the reactor, or abaddon. Since the reactor won, we find it ties into the LS involving scarlet looking for the lines (and about dragon magic). So, if that was tied in to the LS, the abaddon fractal, if won, would tie into the overall plot someway as well. Maybe he wasnt at full strength for some reason (again, hiding a piece of himself), and hence his defeats.
See, we need to look at what is missing, and not just what we know.
I think Lion’s Arch will going destroied last update for the end to LS.
I hope dragon’s appear & i hope we can fight with him like old ancient karka (i think best boss with wurm and tequat)

I think that Scarlett is gone mad for her possible discovery of the pale tree being one of Mordremoth’s minion.
The history of pale tree is an hint itself: “The seed which sprouted the Pale Tree was found in a cave containing many others like it, guarded by powerful plant creatures.”
It’s pure speculation but what if the pale tree is an evil being just waiting for Mordremoth to wake up from its slumber? (Keep your friends close and your enemies closer could be the meaning of the alliance with other races to defeat zhitan)
We know it’s possible for sylvari to rebel to the pale tree (nightmare court is an example).
The death of the pale tree could give to each sylvaris an unique “mind” and i think this is what Scarlett is trying to achieve.
It’s highly probable that i’m wrong but i would like this kind of story!
primordus is awake. he was the first elder dragon to fully awaken. and he has been in the depths of tyria ever since which means that the depths of tryia are too big and or the dwarves and remaining asura and who knows what else are resisting too much for him to conquer it by now.
if scarlet is after primordus for one reason or another the only thing she is going to accomplish with those drills is opening up a new depths of tyria map for us. and it wont be till after scarlet that we get the dragon focused content.
i would love to go into the depths of tyria. but i kinda hope its the rise of mordremoth that she is after since the awakening of an elder dragon would be a cool thing to experience in game and all the others are already awake.
As someone with 4 Sylvari’s I am starting to be afraid- very afraid.
I am all for nuking Lion’s Arch for whatever reason or none.
It really does seem to me like the Pact is a target via the Orders- you can also ague that Scarlet’s various alliances form a sort of Pact of their own.
I just really really don’t want anything to happen to the Mother and I certainly don’t want to lose the ability to make more Sylvari’s
Sorry for the long ramble that is to follow: here are some of my thoughts on Scarlet’s motivations, not necessarily her targets.
Plus the whole ting with Zhaitan falling to his “doom” is a classic – show me the dead body and I’ll believe he’s gone.
“This rose has thorns, and here they are!”
Sylvari shout this when they get Retaliation – Retaliation is a boon that damages anyone who hits the affected target. The attacker will not be damaged if the attack fails to hit. Retaliation does not reduce or prevent damage taken.
A Briar is a form of Rose
Scarlet wants to free the Sylvari (and perhaps everyone else) from their “predestined/predetermined” lives.
To Break the symettry of NIghtfare and Dream etc
Is the Vision she has of the Pale Tree wrapped with the Briar(?) Thorns a vision of the Dream and Nightmare entangled together?
Perhaps there is a symettry with each race/elder dragon/dragon?
Also of Note is the
The Brier score is a proper score function that measures the accuracy of probabilistic predictions. It is applicable to tasks in which predictions must assign probabilities to a set of mutually exclusive discrete outcomes. The set of possible outcomes can be either binary or categorical in nature, and the probabilities assigned to this set of outcomes must sum to one (where each individual probability is in the range of 0 to 1). It was proposed by Glenn W. Brier in 1950.1
The Brier score can be thought of as either a measure of the “calibration” of a set of probabilistic predictions, or as a “cost function”. More precisely, across all items i\in{1…N} in a set N predictions, the Brier score measures the mean squared difference between:
The predicted probability assigned to the possible outcomes for item i
The actual outcome o_i
Therefore, the lower the Brier score is for a set of predictions, the better the predictions are calibrated. Note that the Brier score, in its most common formulation, takes on a value between zero and one, since this is the largest possible difference between a predicted probability (which must be between zero and one) and the actual outcome (which can take on values of only 0 and 1). The original (1950) formulation of the Brier score, the range is double, from zero to two.
The Brier score is appropriate for binary and categorical outcomes that can be structured as true or false, but is inappropriate for ordinal variables which can take on three or more values (this is because the Brier score assumes that all possible outcomes are equivalently “distant” from one another).
Which is all about Probability – which is what she was exposed to in Omadd’s experiment, effectively a sea of “Universal probability”.
Also she says
“I’ve learned so much,” Scarlet continued. “Now I have to put that knowledge to use. An insurmountable challenge is rising, and my people have been called to meet it. We are compelled by our creator to do so.
“But I reject that call. I reject the notion that that I must choose the Dream or be lost to Nightmare. The forces that push us this way or that can be redirected. They can be set against one another to the detriment of both, and now I know how.”
Also given this quote from http://www.gamerzines.com/mmo/sacred-destroyed-pondering-guild.html:
This malevolent being out there was so powerful that it started taking over her mind and giving her suggestions in terms of what she should be doing and things like that. There is a big point here, in terms of the battle between Scarlet’s free will versus this creature’s and you’ll see her transformation.”
Yet again breaking the mold/symettry of the Sylvari Destiny (Nightmare/Dream).
She means to remake the world, perhaps to stop and endless cycle of the Eleder Dragons Rising and being Put Down.
Thus the Marrionette – is the weapons test to prove that the strings of destiny can be cut?
I noticed there’s a pin in the Tyrian map in Scarlett’s lair. I looked around, and the only significant landmarks I found near the pinpoint area are the Luminates power plant and the Hylek and Nightmare Court camps. I don’t know if this place will be significant in the future or anything. Of those, I think the Luminates plant is pretty significant since it has been said that is has power comparable to the power plant in Rata Sum.
(edited by Steel Fenrir.2791)
Thaumanova reactor?
@ digiowl, possibly, but the pinpoint is east of two bodies of water. Maybe the pinpoint was placed in the wrong area by the devs?
I love coming in here and reading all these speculations and different points of view. Can’t wait to see how everything unfolds.

“But I reject that call. I reject the notion that that I must choose the Dream or be lost to Nightmare. The forces that push us this way or that can be redirected. They can be set against one another to the detriment of both, and now I know how.”
“Empires will fall, continents will burn, and when the conflagration is over, I’ll be there to put my stamp on whatever new world this one becomes.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Short_Story:_What_Scarlet_SawClearly Scarlet is trying to build an army of mechanical beings in hopes to control what she is about to unleash. Her plan is to direct it elsewhere and let whatever happens happen, while using her mechanical army to seize the aftermath for her own.
So she’s made an alliance to steal enhanced forging from (Molten) and another to steal a mechanical technology to be enhanced (Aetherblades/Clockwork). She took an interest potions to control wildlife (Southsun) and to control Tyria’s population (Toxic). Now she’s tracking the flow of energy (probes) to learn the path she must direct this “unleashed force” and to better control it. All the while taking pop shots at “empires”.
It seems to me she wants to direct this “force” (Mordemoth?) at another target, possibly Primordus via Lion’s Arch (or just using it to topple all the empires at once). She is “mad” after all.
What if all of this Scarlet is just preparing to kill a Dragon? She mention on her journal " to end this madness" prolly she’s referring to the one that makes her crazy and got fed up so now she wants to kill it.
The dragon in the ceiling is red.
She had alot of colors to draw with, but she did it with red.
Now what dragon is associated with the color red?
Primordus
;DTwo reasons I think its Mordemoth over Primordus.
1. Once she left the Eternal Alchemy she was obvious changed from her meeting with the pale tree (who I still think was Mordemoth) she killed Omadd with red vines sprouting from her body. A new jungle type ability gained from Mordemoth.
2. Now a new threat are these Jungle Wurms in the bloodtide coast.
3. Drawing of a dragon in her study, which makes it clear that it was a dragon that changed her and not something else. Combine that with points 1 & 2 = Mordemoth.
4. The toxic spores created with the help of the nightmare court & KraitThe few things that go against this theory is:
1. Her love for the mechanical which is certainly NOT Mordemoth like.
2.The alliance with the dredge and Flame legion. A jungle dragon would certainly not like this combination.
3. Her focus on attacking humans and particularly Queen Jennah. Why not the other races? this doesn’t make sense. And now she is after Lions Arch, again an old human settlement.
Okay, I largely agree. But here’s my theory:
— SPOILER—
If you’ve read Scarlet’s journal pages, she talks about “ending this madness.”
I do believe that something reached her in her Dream, and the future may have been shown to her when she experienced the entanglements of the Eternal Alchemy, etc.
Also, if these probes are her’s, then it would /seem/ like, at least to me, that she is trying to root out Mordremoth and take him down so that he won’t continually attack her mind.
Being that sylvari are Mordremoth’s minons (right? I can’t be the only one with this theory), and the Pale Tree is to Mordremoth what Glint was to Kralkatorik (being separated from his conciousness), then perhaps Mordremoth is attempting to re-corrupt Scarlet.
At this point, I imagine she’s trying to take him down (and possibly the other dragons, but mainly him) so that, at the VERY LEAST, have her mind at ease and away from his influence.
That’s what I’ve drawn from all this.
I think her journal offers a clue. She mentioned that the voice that was taunting her at night came from the jungle. Could this be in reference to the Jungle elder dragon, Modremoth? Here are some things that I think could link Modremoth to all of this.
1. We did not know about Modremoth (or its name rather) before the living story started. Colin gave us that name in one of the interviews regarding the living story in 2013 (don’t remember exact date). He wanted to prepare us for its awakening?
2. The Pale Tree could be Modremoth champion, might have fallen off of Modremoth’s path due to the influence from Ventari’s teachings. We saw something similar to this with Glint. I remember reading Scarlet’s backstory how she did not want to be defined by Ventari’s teachings. Could Modremoth be influencing her somehow through the Dream?
3. The Pale Tree tried desperately to pull Scarlet looking deep into the Dream. Was The Pale Tree trying to stop Scarlet from discovering the truth?
4. In one of the Sylvari personal story line, we met a Sylvari from another Pale Tree. So it makes sense that an Elder Dragon has multiple champions?
“Please: go no further. In seeking to comprehend the forces that shape us, you will unleash them. Society cannot withstand that.”
Hmmm, interesting. Well, we know that Elder Dragons’ minions are not friendly to each other. So this could be interesting.
