Hardcore Mode
1. People quit when they lose all their items and characters. Anet doesn’t want that.
2. Getting DCed or lagged means I lose everything? I know that you shouldn’t take lags and DCs into account when designing a concept, but that’s way too extreme.
just no…ur sugestion makes no sense at all
Losing everything youre mad?!
no one HAS to join, but it will put a curb on many mouths and stop anet from making the rest of the game built around a few suggestions from unusual players.
again, no one HAS to join, but it’s appeasing to that audience.
So, yes, Just yes. leave part of the game for casual normal players.
In the old games was two, great thighs:
1) Player Killers
2) When u died, u lost some items. But u was able to gain some items from others too.
“No risk = No fun”
That’s simple :P
That’s problem of PvE mode for now (im not talking about pvp, cause there’s not that bad. Torumanents are fine. U can lose or win, and it requires a skill)
cause if we want to talk about real PvE mode, then we ofc need some story stuff, like we’ve got now, but people need a challenge too There’s no real challenge in PvE for now, cause all these “challenges” focus on running in large, boring groups :|
This game need raids or something like that, which people will be able to do with their guilds (once, per week or smt)
Every1 would have a role there.
What we’ve got in PvE now? Pretty good story every 2weeks, whats cool,
and boring farming – just join zerg and make all achievements one day, and wait 2 weeks for next update.
Of course sometimes appears any good dung, or something like Liadri boss, but that’s still not this, what many players and guilds want to see in PvE mode.

You’re the only one that wanna risk losing a year’s progress it would be better with a fee and a trowout at death
Oh god how much I would like to be able to kill players in PvE … for real.
the problem is there is a mix of casual vs hardcore players on the same field making the game chaotic.
The hardcore players want to critique everyone for not being as extreme as them, they should have an extreme version of entry – so people who don’t feel the same aren’t forced to play the same way.
a person who plays 2 – 3 hours every other day shouldn’t be forced to play at the same level with people who play 8-12 hours a day.
So rather than say get rid of the 8-12 hour a day extreme gamer – why not give them their own region and stop mixing everyone else into it ?
By my /deaths data, I would be looking at restarting over 3000 times now.
Sorry to say but I know for a fact I would no longer be playing, but I hear masochists enjoy this type of thing.
The main issue with this is that it is an online-game.
Which means that unforseen circumstances such as sudden lag-spike, loss of connection and so on could kill your character, even without you doing something wrong.
This would be a nightmare for customer support with people contacting them demanding to get their stuff back due to losing them because of circumstances outside of their control.
Krall Peterson – Warrior

but I hear masochists enjoy this type of thing.
ya they do lol…and since they can’t beat the living kitten out of themselves, they complain about everyone else having it easy. They really should be playing with their own kind in extremely torturous and very painful levels so they can be happy ? lol
That is no option. You can’t just “lose” items in a game like Guild Wars 2.
Imagine losing a legendary. Or an ascended item.
Its to much compared to work to make that could rather go to improving the game for the whole playerbase it would be better if they added a hardcore version of each dungeon that each costed 5 gold to enter, rewarded 10 gold + 150 tokens if you die you get trown out and replaced downscaling diffukitteny to it become just as hard for 4 people kitten . and all bosses did high substained damage like 9000 damage on a 2000 armored target, and all bosses did that on like a 5 secs cooldown that would help out support and tank specs a lot. dungeons could do somthing like this:
AC
The dungeon could be about hunting and killing warmaster grast. (makes sense due to ghosts do reanimate).
CM
Finding proof and arresting Caudecus (Makes sense as he would easly get the proof destroyed and easly would talk him self out)
Stuff like that, and a 5 gold fee and 10 gold + 150 tokens + hard substained damage content and trowout on death
Yeah, there’s no way, that in this game u will lose items or even characters xD
But I think, that we can still expect some real challenges in this game.
So many people would love to feel like in wow, when they killed a boss with a guild for the first time That’s possible to do it in GW2, and so many guilds are waiting for it.

Would be great, and we dont have to lose items, to have a PvE mode, that’s challenge
At this moment real PvE does not exist – do not kid yourself – running and killing monsters in a large group without thinking is not pve.

(edited by Xar.1387)
ya, stuff like that – but i still say a hardcore mode for those that never learn lol.
just give like 3 or 4 “are you really absolutely and completely sure you want to do this ?” before they enter ……..hopefully after they lose enough characters they will just want to have fun with everyone else and stop ego tripping.
and honestly, i really enjoy the game art – sometimes I just want to play through for the adventure and sightseeing ….not really the loot – yes the loot is a perk but it’s not the whole fun of playing the game.
It does not help if you loose your eternity or somthing like that… but look at my suggestion
but think of the bragging rights of finishing such a dungeon with your eternity ? – besides you know most will vault their items before going in and probably use ascended items instead. – say your character gets deleted by losing all it’s levels and items – but keeping the name – a reincarnation if you will.
what they want are bragging rights more than anything else – they’ve conquered everything else in their 12 hour a day / 7 day a week gaming sprees

Nope. Challenge in PvE =/= More HP of boss or even loot. Just autoattacking boss is boring :| Bosses need different phases, and people have to adjust to them. Look at link, that i added in the post above. U think, that they was thinking about loot? No.
When u progres PvE stuff, then u think more about doing it, and finaly complete it in a group, and u feel awesome, cause ur guild made it! I remember, when my guild wasnt that good in raiding – we wasnt able to do some raids – but that was fine ;] Cause we had a motivation to play more, and finaly do it. We were not bored. We had a goal.
We need reall boss fights, not dungeons. I mean dungeons are great, but let them be dungeons, and make other thing – Raid, which focuses on the complex bosses.
Let guilds group once per week and give them fight, that they’ll remember in the next 2 years ;] Not a boring * which u can do while ur afk ;f
Raid even would be a guild mission ;] Like a… Raid Mission, hm.
Cause guild missions are fine, but still there’s no challenge mission, that encourages people to do it. “Challenge” mission isnt that challenge at all :P And u dont feel like… U’ve to progres it, learn to play it etc – idk :| It looks like u just need some people to do it – nothing else.
Everyone must have a role in raid, and feel fulfilled when perform it well.
No Role = No fun

a lot of players tend to rush to ends of areas to finish off final bosses and grab loot – then run on to brag about how easy it was. It’s not how all of us would like to play.
So I suggest a hardcore mode for that audience – if you die at all in that instance, your character and all it’s items get deleted. Finishing that dungeon has bigger payoffs – no resurrecting – when you die…you die. Then at least it will convert their griefing into actual bragging rights and keep them away from people who want to play normally.
I agree.
Also their computer should explode.
but that’s the current problem, for a good ‘raid’ you need teamwork, people are running to the end of the instance, killing the boss and saying they are the best.
you can’t mix casual players with extreme players and expect good teamwork.
The best way to make a boss is to have freqent almost 1hk attacks and add a lot of mechanics like the molten facility boss which was fantastic, and how about you have to jump on a elder dragon’s back and place knives with magical treads tied to them all over hi’s body while i slash after you with his tail and summon a lot of the strongest minons on it with hard CC and you could easily fall off and die then if your party manges to take like 20 knives on right places you can jump off and pull the dragon to pieces there is many diffrent ways you can do it to make nice bosses.
I agree.
Also their computer should explode.
Rofl!! hahaha!! that’s the spirit!! – wasn’t there a horror movie like that, people played a haunted video game, and if they lost in the game, they were haunted / hunted down in real life or lost their souls or something like that ? – That would most certainly balance out the game and get people to play well together!! ^.^
“soulbound” mode! if you lose, you become an in game npc for all eternity! O.o
anet can hire a real witchdoctor to put a curse on losers! lol!!
(edited by Ricky.4706)
And once the character is dead, Arenanet could kidnap the players and take them to a real game of Southsun Survival on an uncharted island, and then the winner has their character revived!
Raids is for wow noobs.
Ha! I made the same suggestion long ago. It seems the so called “Pros” aren’t that pro after all

You could always play your own hardcore mode an delete your own toons if you die.
I’m reminded of a game I played with my brother where we tried to swallow water while the other slapped us repeatedly on the back. HAHA!OOoohhh….my childhood…
“No risk = No fun”
That’s simple :P
Actually, it’s not that simple at all. Take me for example, as I do not play or find any fulfillment from risk taking. So there you go, differing player desires Anet has to develop for.
Hard Core Mode is easy in GW2. Anyone who claim it isn’t is indeed no very good at MMORPGs.
First of all you can lvl 1-90 without combat via crafting. As long as you have a good party you can do most non-dungeon content. Even the dungeon Story mode is possible without too much effort and even Explore mode is possible if your group is skilled/geared.
…and ones wondering about “how internet lag affects this”: Remember if you dc you will be insta-removed from the game (within a few seconds) unlike WoW whereas it can take 20 seconds or more. You will be alive on the other side as long as you are not downed. Due to changes in rules in PvP last Winter dieing in combat is lethal and will kill you and therefore Hard Core mode here is more so “impossible”.
Living Story content always changes so “keeping your distance” is important but with the “downed state” in GW2 it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to die outside of PvP zones: You have to be completely playing your class wrong to do so. The amazing combat system and dodge mechanics not to mention healing abilities that ArenaNet made for this game makes it EASY to stay alive. If you are dieing in World PvE areas you are simply not a skilled gamer.
There is no equal to the “fun of Hard Core Mode”… not knowing if every decision you make will be your last. True this activity usually leads to “anti-social behavior” because you cannnot trust anyone no matter it is most “fun” and “realistic” gameplay possible.
Anyone who “complains” that “Hard Core Mode is impossible” are simply the comments from a failed player population….
Indeed it is so…

You could always play your own hardcore mode an delete your own toons if you die.
Actually I do that all the time (obsessed survivor from GW1). Just last week, I deleted 2 chars; problem is, I only play with Abyss/Celestial dyes so every re-roll cost me 60/75 golds Q_Q
I already re-roll like 15 of those chars, not counting the previous 50 cheaps re-rolls (no expensive dyes on them) and 2 very expensive ones with more than 100g invested on them (lvl’ed to 80 with crafting).
Also, I have 1 char with over 750g invested on her and although I’m not planning to delete her, she has been degraded to a simple alt.

Lose character and all items on death? What? I am pretty casual myself I only play 2-3 times a week give or take and maybe if I have a free day off I will get on, sometimes I won’t get on for weeks at a time. I have no problem with rushing to the end, the 3rd level is actually a challenge to rush. I can casually run through the 1st and 2nd floor picking flowers while gazing at rainbows and still make it to the end.
The flipside is I have done a few floors by just fighting through with a few random people near me so I can understand if that’s what you want to do but after running up and down this tower multiple times sometimes it’s more fun to rush, straight through the chaos.
Why not just try to do tower with no armor on. would make things much harder.
Stupid suggestions are stupid. I guess not everybody can be NASA engineer and not everybody can be game designer.
I don’t think he seriously meant this suggestion. I think he’s just angry at ppl who grab the loot and brag :P
