Living Story achievements
Some of them are random but at least half of them are found in krait dense areas of the game.
I do agree that in future, if they make scavenger hunts it would be better to have clues and other tools that lead players to other locations.
Let me remind you that this game is mmorpg. Some achievments require some teamwork and this is one of them if you wanna do them without guide. Get 3-4 friends… party up and you would do it in notime.
Problem is… anet still didn’t figure out what challenging means. They think challenging is something that takes a lot of time but isn’t hard at all, cause it’s all farm that, kill that, which is just repetitive.
I think challenging means something that is rather hard, but not repetitive, for example, soloing a dungeon for level 80. Or duoing it if you can’t do solo. It doesn’t matter if it takes two times as long, as long as it’s enjoyable and memorable.
I once did a full fractal on a level 2 character, together with a mate. It took us some 3 hours, but we managed it. I’ll never forget it cause I had such a great time, although we were both naked by the end (endless deaths).
Create something that requires skill. Make achievements something to work for, not something to grind till boredom.
Admittedly I haven’t found all of them yet but all the ones I have found were in/around krait cities. (Colonies? Dens? Nests? not sure what the correct term is.)
After I stumbled across the first two I found all the rest by opening my map up and looking for either places I remembered finding krait or large water bodies that are likely to have krait in them. (Which you can see even if you haven’t explored that area of the map yet.)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
The first time the Living Story did this we got a mail that gave us clues as to where to look for things. It was really fun, if a little easy, and I enjoyed hunting them all out myself.
Then the dragon pieces thing came out and it basically required a guide (or else hours and hours of wandering).
Then this came out and I just decided not to bother.
I’d really appreciate it if we could go back to proper clue-based scavenger hunts, rather than random wandering or Alt-Tabbing Dulfy.
The random ones are really annoying. There should have been only a few to the good guarded places of the krait not some random “hey water=krait” ones.
I’m agreeing with the OP on this. The “find locations” across several zones with no clues is just making busy work. Some of these kriat historian locations are obvious, others are off in some cleft in a rock wall that make no sense.
To be honest, I’m getting a little tired of ArenaNet seeming to depend on Dulfy or others for guides. Achievement arch requirements aren’t clear. Sometimes you get a starter mission or in-game mail, but then you have to “discover” all the rest, usually just an entire zone as a location. It shouldn’t take a third party web site for many of us to go “Ah-ha, now I understand what is happening.” For instance, the “Toxic Spore Cleanser”—from the tool tip, it sure appears like I should have finished this one after just a few waves of mobs. But it’s never triggered. I have to go to an external site to figure out that despite the mobs having “Toxic” in their name, they aren’t toxic ENOUGH, and I have to find some other random toxic-er-than-average mob.

I agree and disagree here. The dragon pieces were located at each dragon location (Frostgorge, Sparkfly,…etc). Once you map there you could chat with the community and find waypoints without using any guides. The same goes for the Krait ones. They are all located in Krait heavy map areas and all are in or close to water. However, this achievement did not have the same amount of obliesks in each map which made it harder to get without a guide….and not being able to check them off someway as you get them, makes it harder when you need all 24 instead of: Do 22 of 24 possible or something with some wiggle room.
