Do you think the new SAB dagger skins will look great? Maybe the new SAB King Toad and Storm Wizard weapon skins will also include dagger skins.

I imagine they’ll be similar in design to the Sword skin, with the somewhat crystal-like but otherwise relatively basic shape. But maybe they’ll pull out a surprise with them, who knows.

As for the King Toad / Storm Wizard weapons… if the picture shown is any indication, it looks like those will just be recolors of the current SAB skins, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t include every weapon type. But again, who knows.

However I am hopeful of the King Toad and Storm Wizard skins. Get a slight feeling I shouldn’t get overly excited though.

The Tribulation Mode skins are color-shifted variants of the regular set. Each World has a color. Blue is the general SAB color (so not gained through Tribulation Mode), Green is World 1, Yellow World 2, Red World 3 and Purple World 4. This follows the Bauble value color scale. But don’t get your hopes up for getting the Tribulation color variants. Tribulation Mode is ridiculously difficult and time consuming. I don’t expect to see many green or yellow super skins out there. TM is there for a very small group of people who are into that sort of thing.

As much as I love your work, Josh Foreman, I really can’t stand the fact that you guys created a ridiculously difficult and time consuming mode (don’t get me wrong, it’s amazing actually) while “time consuming” is a contradiction to “temporary content” in my opinion. So as long as SAB is temporary, this hard mode gets even harder due to a cheap time limit. That annoys me :/. Is it temporary to begin with? I bet it is.

“Cheap” is actually a good cue: SAB is – to a certain extent – a throwback to the 80s / 90s of gaming. Many games were pretty hard, but not necessarily because the developer wanted to challenge the player but to “hide” the short length of the game. Even “worse”, high difficulties were often achieved through ridiculously unfair mechanics, trial&error or whatever and some games were only beatable by memorizing every single bit of it. So what can I expect? A extremely hard version of SAB or … a tribute to those old ways of difficulty? A mix of both? Don’t get me wrong. I’d like both, because that would be also a point, but I have to prepare myself. My body has to be ready, you know :P

They said the same thing about Liadri but now everyone and their grandma has a Liadri mini.

I think that’s an exaggeration. We know that of the 50 (or was it 100?) ANet testers that fought Liadri, only 6 of them managed to beat her. Still, that’s about 15% of the playerbase. When you multiply that across 1 million+ players, that’s 150,000 players who should have the skill necessary to beat her. These players will almost certainly have their Liadri mini out to show off, so you’ll be seeing her a fair bit, thus the incorrect assumption that everybody was able to beat her.

This is reflected in my own guild experience too. We have a roster of 200 – 300 players, of which about 50 – 75 are regulars. Of these regulars, I only know about 5 of us who have actually beaten Liadri.

Anyway, thanks for the clarification, Josh. I think that having the King Toad/Storm Wizard skins be palette swaps of the Super weapons to be a very fair way of doing it. They are unique so players with the skills can have something concrete to show for it, but at the same time, the ordinary Super skins are basically the exact same thing so if a player has their heart set on the look of one of the weapons, they aren’t left out altogether.

So some months ago you said that the old SAB skins won’t be obtainable anymore. Is this still the case? Will the regular SAB skins not drop anymore in normal mode? Will they still be buyable from moto? What about Tribulation Mode. Will all the SAB skins drop in different Colors in Tribulation mode?
You also said back then that the dropchance will get a new system so that farming the skins won’t be the same anymore. Will Skin drop chance be tied to the points you have now? Or is the system still the same?
Also an ingame timed mode with leaderboards would be also nice. It’s fun to speedrun SAB.

The SAB was always a solo adventure that simply allowed for groups. It is based on solo games after all. If anything, tribulation mode shouldn’t even support groups, since that could potentially trivialize it.

The skins will most likely not be tradeable. That’s the whole point of hard modes – to show something off.

What I understand out of this skullmount is that in tribulation mode, each world will drop specific coloured bubbles, of which 250 make one specific coloured bauble. You’ll likely need 50 coloured baubles for 1 specific colour skin.

I don’t understand your comment. Killing the Toad King was probably the slowest way to gather baubles… I just ran through the first levels with 8 characters a day. All you need to buy is bombs really.

Anyway, the Tribulation weapons won’t drop from bosses, you still need to gather enough baubles of a colour. It seems very likely that Tribulation mode will be far, far harder to solo.

Oh right, you mean they should symbolise your skill and not your wealth right? Hmm, I guess. You have to consider these weapons would be a magnificent cash cow for the dedicated too.

“Ridiculously difficult” and the 8-bit motif only screams one thing to me. “Pixel Perfect Jumps!”

If it is indeed that hard, there’s really no reason to collect baubles throughout the level. Finish the level. get a skin. It should be that easy. Since you can only go to levels that you’ve unlocked, this would make finishing stage three of each world in tribulation mode highly rewarding.

From the pictures though it looks as if it turns the normal levels into a “floor is lava” scenario. Perhaps those spiky … bamboo?… squares severely limit your character’s movement via only being able to jump safely to the next square.
