Continue Coins: What do I do with them?
as of now.. i’d say save ’em. who knows how tough will the newer levels be : )) and i guess would be good to have just in case.

Yeah, keep in mind world 1 is easy. The difficulty will be rising as more worlds come in, as well as hard mode. I’m sure you’ll eat a LOT of CCs if you want to take that challenge on.

This pretty much sums it up if you want to do rapids (and then think of what will come after because rapids is the end for now, not the end).
Rapids you will die a lot, at least until you learn the jumps and get used to them. Then add in even more difficult areas and you’re going to either burn them or get used to starting over.

Dang, now I regret trading them for Krugerrands.

I have no doubt.
How ever there are 3 barriers preventing you from making use of the Continue Coin. Making them just paper weights.
1) Not dying (obviously).
2) Even if you do die. There is a mechanic that gives you 5 free lives if you just leave the instance and come back in with a group. Probably not intended. But it is there.
3) Lives and Potions purchased from the shops also prevent you from having to use a Continue Coin.
Continue coins are “cheaper” than potions and lives from the shops.
I have used plenty of continue coins because 1) apparently I suck more than you do – I died a lot while getting to know the SAB, trying to find secret rooms, etc, and still die on occasion. Well, that’s it, really.
I have to say though that at first I thought that you needed a coin just to get into the SAB in the first place, for your first set of 5 lives, not just to continue. As such I di lots of jumping puzzles and chests during the first few days to keep well stocked-up. Now that I know I only need them to continue beyond the first 5 levels, they don’t seem quite as relevant/valuable anymore, plus I am now better at SAB, plus I am not wasting any more lives getting to the root room or Moto’s Breath, etc. I think you get the idea.
Keeping a nice stock for next time will be a good idea in any case as I don’t know yet whether when the time comes I will have the time to farm for them.

Rapids didn’t seem that difficult. Then again, I’m pretty good with jumping puzzles and didn’t do it with a norn or charr.
bought 5 CC’s, got 5 CC’s..
i’m soloing this thing extremely easy with my asura chars, but when i try it with a fatass charr that wears light armor, i die more often then kenny in south park
say your at the boss you know you have collected all the baubles in the zone. you have no lives left and can’t make it to a shop to bye more lives or maybe you don’t want to spend those baubles like that. so if you die your going to need a continue coin so you don’t have to start from scratch.
I’m definitely collecting them for later levels, you definitely see the progression in difficulty. Even by 1-3 with the “floor is lava, don’t touch it” and then rapids instant death, I’m expecting some Mega Man like appearing/disappearing blocks over bottomless pits in later levels.
Josh you wouldn’t do that to us would you?
I can still hear the sound of those blocks in my nightmares.

Those blocks were evil. I forget which game it was but I remember levels with like three non-scrolling rooms of those in a row, so you’d jump off the last one to the bottom of the next screen, and then die because you jumped left in stead of right… and have to start the previous section all over again XD

If you can hear it in your nightmares, there’s a good chance you’ll come across it in SAB.
Bring it on. I’ve yet to be challenged by a JP, and I look forward to the day when I am!

i’d have to agree with Dusk on this one.. bring it anet, make us dream about a JP!
to really earn our title “Distinction in applied jumping”

Why, why did you give him ideas on how to torment us?
Please give us a keyring…
they can just as well make it a hard mode exclusive for all i care… i just need a JP that’s challenging. and don’t say Mad king’s clock tower.. that one was way too easy for me

So you’re programming some our ex girlfriends into the game?

Only thing I really disliked about the Clock Tower and Wintersday JP’s was that everyone goes at once. That’s frustrating. But if I’m by myself jumping, I’m not the greatest at JP’s but I’ll keep doing them till I succeed and I haven’t been completely thwarted yet, but I still find them quite challenging.

As a max height (albeit female) norn, I still don’t understand the QQ related to norn and jumping puzzles. SAB is easy. Clock tower was even easier. Any of the JPs out in the world are easy too (only one slightly challenging was the one in EB, but that was more because it was challenging to find a time where it wasn’t being camped by people on arrow carts trolling the top section)
Moving/disappearing platforms can’t stop me, wonky camera angles can’t stop me, I say bring it Anet. ;D

Good thing you can’t drown in GW2 or SAB.

No, but you can flop around like a fish out of water when you touch moving rapids. At that point, you’re begging for death.

… yet.
We’ve unleashed a monster, guys…

When I first got on the raft at the end of the final level in SAB I was expecting it to be something like the battletoads tunnel where you had to like jump over stuff or move or something or else you would lose a heart.
^ Now that you’ve mentioned it, I’m sure Josh will include a raft section where we have to do just that. :P

You wouldn’t dare!

Griffonrook Run is easy for a Guardian because of Aegis blocking the Griffons that decide to cheat and use fast-attack animations. Furthermore, to complete the JP, you don’t even have to open the chest at the end, although I have opened it on numerous occasions just to say that I have “truly beaten it”. The only “hard” part about that JP is the mobs while carrying the bomb, not the jumps themselves.
I tried that when it was (is it still?) bugged, so it may have been way harder than intended.

I sure hope not.
That, Sonic and tmnt combined in a single underwater level would be true horror.

Hmm. Actually the raft reminded me of FF3 (FF6 when re-released).
Interesting ride so far though, thanks Josh. And, btw, look up Blaster Master while yer at it. (In particular, the water and ice worlds)
I like to view MMOs through the lazy eye of a Systems Admin, and the critical eye of a
Project Manager. You’ve been warned. ;-)

I was just about to link the TMNT dam level that haunts many people. That electric seaweed sound, the beeping at low health, the music speeding up because you’re running out of time.
Many many f-bombs and sweaty palms over that level.

That’s what it was originally. But it had to many bugs to figure out in the last couple days of production so we pulled the rocks that flipped the individual logs and added ninjas instead. But once we start on World 2 full time I’m sure we’ll figure out how to make it work as designed.
Gotta love the art of the “unintentional Boast”. “I can’t imagine why there would be continue coins, wait you mean everyone can’t do all of the content blindfolded Gasp does that mean I’m exceptionally talented? I’d never thought of it that way but maybe…”
you use them when you run out of lives and then die.
