Pondering whether it’s worth it to get the slingshot, bomb, whip, etc. for my alts in anticipation of farming future hard modes – what are you guys doing?
personally i think there is not much use of other tools besides shovel for now.. i’ll save my baubles for further installments of zones and levels.. you never know what Anet throws out
I’ve only run the SAB with one alt so far; primarily to get to the chests. I don’t go daily, it’s very casual, but I did pick up both the shovel and the bomb, because I thought I might just as well pick up the fast/bigger baubles on the way, and that includes some of the secret room.
I haven’t picked up the whip or slingshot with my alt. I would get the candle though if I’d be bothered to go through zone 3.
I think I’ve gotten everything but the slingshot and Motos breath on 2 of my 9 chars (out of 10) that I run it with. My main/first one I ran it with has everything, and another is missing the whip (just haven’t taken the time out to get it, since I try to get 500 when doing my run of z1and2).

You can get the candle in zone 2 for free. Its in the shop right when the poison water appears (the one with the shopkeeper outside saying the “water tastes improper”).
All my alts have everything because I’m a completionist like that. Really though if your sole intent is just speed farming, you only need the shovel. Slingshot is nice because it lets you kill King Toad in 2 crystals instead of 3, and candle is free so why not. Whip is also cool to stun alligators at long range, but not needed.
Whether or not you get the purse depends on how you run it. I like to hit a lot of good dig spots, so I hit 300+ baubles by the time I get to the end. However if you just want to minimize time and only go for the bubbles from the bosses, you wouldn’t need shovel or purse.

Like Curo, all my alts have everything too. We must bow to the demands of our OCD completionism. XD
However, if we’re going for bare necessities, I would recommend getting the Shovel and Bomb for everyone so they can dig up Baubles and get into secret rooms. Slingshot and Whip are useful, but not necessary for completing zones.
Shovel + Purse, it’ll pay out if you do multiple runs. Just doing zone 1+2 already gives me 500 baubles (hitting all digs spots along the way). I know you’re talking about future updates, but seeing as we won’t know what’s install for us, I’ll be commenting on the now.
I’d say you could settle for shovel and purse.
Depending whether you do w2 as well, the bomb is a must for the shortcut, and the whip for when the crocodiles are bugged. Otherwise, yea you’re good with the shovel/purse combo.
Wallet, candle, slingshot, bomb, and shovel are what I would personally get. I may just start buying the upgrades for everyone since converting baubles to bauble bubbles is a waste considering I have so many now. Too bad you can’t convert them to baubles.
I don’t think the whip or the slingshot are worth it.
Slingshot can save you a few seconds in the boss fights but you waste more time collecting baubles to be able to use it than you make up.
Shovel First
Then Bomb
Then Wallet
Pick up candle when you can and I think I’d call it good after that.
Of course they have told us that both the Slingshot and Bomb will be getting upgrades in the future; that’s why when you “equip” them it leaves #3-5 blank. It’s room for new skills. But since the slingshot is just a convenience and isn’t necessary to find any secrets so far, I doubt it will be necessary in the future either.
Bomb on the other hand will likely continue to be necessary.
It’s also been confirmed that Moto’s Breath will be re-designed for the next release, so that might be worth picking up with your alts as well.
Well considering there will be more content and we don’t know what wll be in it, just get everything you can. There will be more uses for things like the whip in future updates.
I know what you mean, if we have a monster already targeted the slingshot should automatically adjust to fire at the target. It would be too involved to add an aiming system in 1st person.
