For a elite it sure is pretty useless. It does no damage and doesn’t really blows the enemy very far. The targeting is a crapshoot.

Has anyone actually found a use for it?

Take note, i am not actually asking for it to be poweful. If it is useless so be it. I just want to know if there is a purpose to it other than fill up the skill slot.

We need to make it useful. We just got that in at the last minute. Also, the Moto upgrades will be way better.

Although I’ve got Moto’s Breath myself, I haven’t used it very much. It might be helpful in World 2 with the ninjas if it can blow enemies off the bridge or the raft. Mainly I was under the impression that Moto’s Breath isn’t very helpful in World 1, but it may be crucial to surviving some battles in World 2 and onwards. (Although I hope that Moto’s Breath becomes essential to defeating a boss, for example, that there’s an easier way to find it in later Worlds. Perhaps players who obtain it this way must pay a lot of Baubles to get it, as opposed to players who earn it for free by completing the difficult jumping route.)

I would love it if Moto’s Breath worked like a sort of smart bomb. Clearing a screen of enemies, or doing massive damage to a boss. That would be far more useful.

I believe you get 1 shot per life (or if you don’t die, one per stage). Thats what it seems like to me, anyway.

I’ve definately found it completely useless, to the point where I haven’t even bothered getting it on most of my characters.

My main problem with it is that it takes FOREVER to go off. First you’ve got a lenghty cast time (during which I believe you’re immobile) and even after your characters’ cast animation you still have to wait for Moto’s head to actually blow. If the purpose of the attack is an emergency “oh god I’m surrounded” button it certainly fails miserably, because you’d be hit long before it actually went off. If its not an emergency escape move then I don’t know what its actually supposed to do.

I guess if it was last minute, though, then its more of a fun easter egg than a useful ability right now. Which is fine I suppose.

It’s totally meant as an “oh god I’m surrounded!” button, like Golden Ax and Final Fight… or was it Streets of Rage?… Anyway, yeah, it needs work. It’ll have a make-over for next release. I’ll look into knocking things off cliffs, as that is one of the most viscerally fun things to do in a game.

As much as that would be amazing, considering the amount of trickery that has been put into moving characters in the various stories and events from one area to another without them actually jumping, I’m going to say it is probably impossible. If not, then you need to let those other designers know they’re just silly and should rework how they set things up.

This. SO MUCH THIS. CC skills would be so much more useful (and fun!) if we could hurl/fear enemies off ledges to their deaths. Or even just to give us some more breathing space.

We will probably need it to blow out fires in the lava level… :P

Guys you disappoint me for the lack of ideas and… it can be so much more than blow out fires!

Mechanic System (Moto’s Breath):

  • Blows at the enemy to be knocked into a “Daze” with star animation.
  • Upgrade the breath to push an enemy farther to complete a puzzle.
  • Use the breath for environmental changes to solve puzzles, secrets, or other things.

- (Like I don’t know… allow the breath to change the direction of the raft during rapid rivers?)
- (Put out fires like [Joseph Skyrim.2470] mentioned.)
- (Moving debris.)
- (Pushing Baubles off of high ledges.)
- (Moving Mobs on top of switches.)
- (Cool off lava areas to allow a walkable pathway for a short time.)
- (Blowing air into holes to solve a music puzzle.)
- (Pushing boulders to make a path.)
- (Enrages the Bee Queen Dog for giggles.)
- (Moving a lily pad across swamps.)

  • Have the final upgrade for the Breath be used and required, to remove a Shield Buff from the Final Boss (The one that kidnapped the princess) to allow the group or player to damage the boss for a short time.

Josh Foreman are you writing this down? I’ll keep posting more ideas in Edits that come across once I review what mechanics NES and SNES did that involved with Air mechanics.

Edit:

- (Use the breath to freeze certain parts of the water to create ice blocks to jump on or use against bosses.) (That and to jump up water falls.)
- (Use the breath to spread fire.)
- (Use breath to clear fog/mist/clouds to reveal a pathway.)
- (Use breath on water falls {In none ice zones} to part the water fall to find secret passages.)
- (Use breath to blow up a bubble/balloon to make a transporting vehicle of some sort.)
- (Use breath to throw back objects, thrown at player, to the mob or a boss fight.)
- (Use breath to block certain special attacks, that are magical.)

I like most of the above suggestions, but remember that the Breath is only usable once per life/zone, so it can’t be used for any ideas that would require it to be used more than once. Furthermore, if the Breath is required to get through an area, there has to be another way to obtain it for players who can’t complete the difficult jumping puzzle in W1Z3 to get to the room with the Breath.

Did you forget Josh Foreman’s post?

Dev Quote: “… It’ll have a make-over for next release. …

So if you have any ideas to add to the thread post them. However remember, they have to be mechanics that was used in Atari, Sega, Nes, and Super Nes. Anything like Dream Cast, N64, or Play station don’t qualify.

Considering you cannot knock enemy off edges, that will be a major modification.

If we could push them off cliffs then they would also be able to follow us off (or up) cliffs… So how would I get out of trouble? :P

(When I was new to GW2, I once ran away from a pirate; ran into a lake, because I knew he, not being a fish, wasn’t going to follow me. But he totally did! I was shocked and in awe at the same time. However…. I know that he won’t jump over a chasm to get to me, and that’s also kindof convenient… )

As for Moto’s Breath: I always forget that I picked it up once, so I’m not even using it. If it had a use both inside and out of combat like the bombs or candles, that would be awesome.

Being able to knock enemies off cliffs would be a feature I would love to see in general PVE. But as for Moto’s Breath, if it is supposed to be a panic button, I think I would like the casting time to be really short. And I would like it to have some effect on bosses as well. Obviously you can’t knock bosses down a cliff, so maybe just deal a lot of damage to the boss?
