2g and Karka Shells is a rip-off
While I’m not a fan of the gold + karka shell price either (I feel it should have been just 50 Karka Shells per weapon or armor piece), the price is still fairly cheap as far as Exotics is concerned. It’s another option for players to get Exotic-tier equipment aside from crafting, karma, WvW, guild commendations or dungeon running.
Cheap, as in more expensive than the Trading Post?
Only a small percentage of the players would buy those anyway.
Also take note that these exotic weapons and armor cannot be salvaged, nor can it be placed in the Mystic Forge. With those alone, the 2g exotics being sold in the TP is way better than these. Prices of 2g + karka shells should have been more carefully thought of before these were made available.

Gotta make sure absolutely no one can in no way make any kind of profit or benefit off of in-game events!
Plus, seeing that they’re unable to be salvaged and only have at max major runes/sigils instead of superior is really just salt on the wound.

This is all part of the lore. The settlers are refugees, the refugees are people who lost to dredge and flame legion because they were wearing these stats. The 2g+karka shells is not so much for the items, but fundraising so that the settlers can buy decent gear off the TP.

Gold isn’t the problem, but grinding Karka for armor.
Hopefully there will be an alternative way to get those.

Karka Shells are easy to get. The problem is the 2 gold.

I don’t know, grinding Karka in one zone feels a bit tedious for me. As for the gold, it could be hard to get, but you can get it anyway you like, doing dungeons, WvW, events, anyway you like whereas you have to stay in single zone and kill one type of enemy for Karka Shells.
Point is, we all (or many of us, anyway) came out of this event with stacks and stacks of karka shells, thinking we’d be able to exchange them for something cool. Now we can exchange them for something that leaves most players feeling a bit “meh”… and there’s a hefty gold price ontop of it.
I think players expected the merchant that comes up after they defeat the main boss to carry some sort of reward – either something new, or at least a special deal on items.
I’ll pass – neither the skins nor the stats are worth 2 gold / item for me, even without karka shells. I’m better off getting exotics off the TP.

they like adding gold costs to everything so its not just some “alternative currency” being used as an easy way to get stuff. remember wvw gear used to be badge only, then it got dropped to lvl 70, now the “new” wvw gear is badge + gold, even the gift of battle now costs 50s when before it was badge only. what they seem to forget is the gold costs pretty much makes it not worth getting most the time, especially when the skins arent even anything we havent seen before.

Exactly. You cannot sell/forge/salvage them either, and they do not even come with the max level runes/sigils.

While not new, remember you can still get the ancient karka shells, which are very good exotic gear! Better than throwing away stacks of karka shells. Alternatively, you could sell them in a couple months when activity dies down in southsun.
Well months BEFORE Last Stand and after Lost Shores, apothecary armor was.pretty expensive

I just found out that if you want an Ancient Karka Shell you gave to grind 1000 Karka shells.
Really? A thousand Karka shells? I don’t mind that it takes time to get it, that’s fine, but grinding one type of enemy over and over in a single zone is a deal breaker for me.
