Molten Facilities taught the crucial mechanics needed for the boss through the weapons testing segment near the start. Canach’s Lair failed to give much if any indication as to how to handle the fight properly.

That is actually an excellent point. The Molten Facility was an excellent example of the game explaining itself to players in a kind of tutorial format (while hiding that was a tutorial in a clever plot device) rather than encouraging players to just go onto the wiki and read about what to do.

Perhaps the intention was to keep the Canach fight short, but if that was the case then a simple fight with some traps and mines would have accomplished that. If the entire fight is going to be a mini-game then some set-up is useful.

Personally I am enjoying Southsun immensely, not so much the dungeon/instance stuff, but I am not a dungeon-lover generally. I love that lots of players are getting wiped, it means the events are more challenging, and frankly they should be challenging, as events that can be easily won are boring…really boring.

Southsun as an environment is bang-on too in my opinion…..sun, sea, sand and karka….the perfect holiday destination :-P

The only thing I honestly enjoyed was Crab Toss, and you broke the achievements for it so I can’t even finish Crabgrabber or Crab-Carrying Competitor. 20 achievement points and a title that I will never be able to get due to your incompetence. I really hope you extend Crab Toss and fix this crap before removing it, or I will never spend a dime on this game again.

Canach was buggy and gimmicky. The Karka Queen events and the town defenses going continuously makes it impossible to do anything when it’s not at peak hours, during the karka queen fight you can’t come in from the north because of the stupid amount of karkas sitting in wait at steampipe steading. God help you if Camp Karka is overrun (it often is) because you are going to have to run from Owain’s Refuge to get there safely.

And don’t even get me started on Subdirector Null. Who the heck decided this boss was a good idea? What a frustrating, awful boss. Even with good coordination among friends in mumble we had trouble due to bugginess and overall poor design.

All in all, as a fairly casual 80 the event was terrible. F&F felt so much better and fun, the instances had substance, and while I found parts of the trash quite infuriating, the sense of accomplishment for me after finishing everything felt so good.

I don’t feel accomplished at all after this event, just tired out.

I loved it. However, my only complains: Crabtacular achievement and Sclerite Weapon Ticked droprate.

Crabtacular achievement. This is based on luck and hope that no one wants to grief. Really, if someone joins a game he could play in such a way that it will guarantee no crabtacular achievement for anyone in that round. An achievement for something that any player could work against is not fun.

Sclerite weapon ticket. Same deal like Fused weapon ticket. RNG and tradeable would be ok(just like Halloween). No RNG and gemstore would aslo be ok(like gemstore winter skins). RNG and accountbound = no fun at all. If I get a ticket and don’t want it is totally useless for me for being accountbound. If I want a ticket and can’t get it there is no other option for me but just keep trying more and more RNG. I can’t just save money and buy one from another player or from gemstore.

The concept was fine. I don’t find Canach particularly interesting, but having the settlers and Consortium at odds while the wildlife was becoming overwhelming worked I guess. I liked the Karka Queen fight. Boss fights that make players actually have to “play” are always good.

But overall the execution was poor, unfortunately. Within each phase of the story it’s the same few events over and over. People throw fits about daily’s in other games, but here you have an event carousel that’s effectively just “10 minutelies” that you didn’t have to pick up from a quest giver.

The lag situation has been bad. It’s understandable when it’s peak time and you have an event that spawns 200 mobs, but I was getting lag-kicked at 3 am and nobody around to keep the settlements clear.

You have a single-player dungeon that after the first couple of days couldn’t even be reached by many players without a group most hours of the day because of ill-placed mobs that were never properly relocated.

The achievement bugs are ridiculous, not leastwise because they didn’t just turn up in the final hours of the event. It feels like half the point of the living story material is to give the players some new things to work toward, and instead it apparently becomes about enjoying a laggy minigame that has you slowed and/or steamrolled half the match “for the fun of it.”

I realize that the people who should have been responsible for fixing the mess are probably working on yet-to-be-released content, but part of running a major MMO is maintaining your game. From the standpoint that I personally am not paying for the content I shouldn’t care, but it’s still disappointing that a company would take advantage of the many fans that will lap up any old rubbish so long as they have something new to play around with. I’d like to think ANet holds themselves to a higher standard.

I do still appreciate that we’re getting new content. F&F and Southsun have kept me logging in, which is crucial to the game’s business model … people aren’t spending money if they’re not playing. It just feels to me like ANet is content to be able to say they have such and such going on rather than investing the resources to do it the way that is consistent with other parts of the game.

Story was well…boring and uninteresting. Very poorly executed, all in all. The level of story telling here was not even near FF level. /disappointed.

The instance was cheap, short, and also quite boring. I hear that one guy made it and that is quite apparent.

End event with box really aint worth the hassle and I expect people will more than likely just pass on this: there is far easier world bosses to farm with absolutely no risk of death.

The instigator, on the other hand, was loot heaven and I could happily grind away, getting loots/karma/and money with none that diminishing returns kitten wrecking everything. WTB MORE OF THAT. /standing ovation

And as to RNG boxes, well they suck. No more of that PLEASE; I am one the few that has farmed there excessively and not gotten a SINGLE miny or ticket. /bigfrownyface

If 200% mf sticks around forever, then SS will still have visitors: if not, then no one will go there again. 1st event when this zone was put into the game was EPIC. This reboot was not so much.

i honestly want to know what happened to the writers of the Flame and frost dunegon? where they killed because they actually made something amazing??

overall i didn’t like the fog in the dungeons, wooo horrible lag from that…. the Subdirector Null boss was irritating, half the times the mine didnt go off and the other they went off when they where supposedly owned by you!

The pvp community reminds me of what Obi-kittenenobi describes Mos Eisley as from star wars.

I thought that the events were awful, especially b/c I fought the Queen and got the achievement but NO chest spawned for me and I was under the queen on a Bomb/Healing engy and I lived through the whole thing-I was doing damage. Then I do Subdirector Null and no chest there, either. NO point in these events, was a waste of time.

i did not like it. with all the bugs from the events karka queen not spawning on half the servers most of the time when she was put in and the extremely low drop chances from the crates . the only thing i liked was the back items having a nice unique design to them and the MF buff

I enjoyed the events and meta event, they were challenging and rewarding. The drops were very good for the crabtoss as well as for the pve chests. It felt worthwhile to participate, and though could at times feel repetitive it was still rather fun.

I generally enjoyed the storyline between the Consortium and the Refugees. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but sometimes it seems like the devs drop in a lot of in-jokes. Not that this is a bad thing. I like many other people did not care much for the Canach encounters. It was tedious and somewhat boring, though given the short amount of time required to produce a smaller scale boss fight, I can’t really blame them for the solutions used in order to produce such instances. I greatly enjoyed the new content overall but I think it’s probably best if they tried to come up with different instances. The last solo instance which involved guarding the contracts was just fine.

I’m a little disappointed with the format of the achievements however. For example the crabtoss achievements. I kind of wish they had put fewer requirements on those titles since it was a bit zany trying to acquire them. Though I had a great deal of fun cooperating with other players to try and get the most out of that game. Grabbing the crab 300 times was a bit much though.

The drop rates for crates are abysmal. I did not get a single crate from mobs during the entire event. I know it varies for many people but this should not be the case. This needs to change and more special drops need to be present.

While I appreciate the need to create many different achievements for players with different preferences, some of the tasks were way to difficult to accomplish independently. This often made the task of gathering achievements frustrating.

The explorable mode dungeon was quite terrible. I have heard and found that Ranger pets had become a problem within this particular instance and in some cases players were forced to switch to an alt because their pets would only get in the way. There should never be a dungeon that alienates professions to that extent.

I liked the skins very much for both the back pieces and the weapons.
However RNG is brutal and also needs to be adjusted.

Kind of… neutral about the event now. Started pleased with it, then the one-room “dungeon” dampened my excitement a bit, and then crab-toss being bugged constantly preventing me from getting the title just leaves me feeling disappointed.

I logged in the other day to do the Canach storyline Seems I missed some of it that was only there for a week or so?

I dunno. Either way, I got to Southsun and just…it was a mess. I had no idea what I was doing, or where anything was. I guess I should have had a go last week, but time then was seriously lacking for me, and I didn’t realise that there were going to be two stages to the whole thing even within the couple of weeks this stage of proceedings was around. Or was it always that confusing?

I appreciate that things have to move on, but for something which is supposed to be storyline based, having instances and zones available for just a week or two seems…I dunno, kinda short, especially when the first arc of something with relatively little to do is there for a month, and then you have a fortnight to do what amounts to a lot more than the first part of the content.

I don’t mind short periods of content – heck, the festival events were just that and I’ve managed to be around for all of those. What I find confusing is that sudden switch between a month to do a short scavenger hunt and farm out a few events, and then half that time to do instanced stuff and have a dungeon. (I tried Crab toss once and gave up to to serious lag issues, so I had already resigned myself to missing out on that stuff.)

I love the concept of content that changes and provides a story that alters over time, I just think that for an MMO, it just…I don’t think it would hurt the game for some of this to run concurrently, even if it is less signposted. There are players in-game now who have yet to kill Zhaitan in their PS, and we’re still about to celebrate his offing with a festival. How would leaving the instances open for players be any different to that? Open world stuff, fine, it makes sense for that to go. But instances don’t affect anyone but the people participating.

Maybe I’m missing a point, but it just seems a tad illogical, especially when you have people complaining about missing content, and then people taking sabbaticals from the game only to come back and have little to do because the content came and went already.

To buy character slots or not to buy character slots. That is the test of my restraint.

My feedback for this event is the same for The Lost Shores event: your developers ought to be ashamed of themselves. Once again they delivered a buggy pile and then used the fact that it was a limited duration event as an excuse to avoid fixing it even if that meant people will never get to actually complete the event.

I’d rather have a well done event every two or three months than a rushed event that doesn’t work released every month just for the sake of releasing something.
