I think i’ll just play Rift or WoW for now, until GW2 gets better. It just keeps getting worse each update. Sigh, and i really wanted to like this game.

Cannach takes 5 minutes once you get used to it.

I’ve now completed it using every single class. Mezzie can cheat via confusion. A couple other classes can as well with ground targeted condition applying skills. That said, it’s so much faster to use the mines.

I though he is not taking damage by skills? So I can just use every AoE and he really is only evading directly targeted skills? Okay then it seems easy but the description sounded like he was ignoring all other damage besides mines.

Edit: And reward is probably only 1 time? If it really was farmable it would be too easy… or if it was without DR.

Do you know what’s the icing on the cake? Ok, here it goes: pets activate mines too. GL trying to have a fun, not annoy others or get the achievement if you just happen to only play a pet class (fortunately I don’t, but it doesn’t make it better as I wanted to complete it with my ranger).

We’ve been having similar issues with pets since launch, and they can’t still figure it out when making new content. I’m really disappointed, Anet.

Don’t go talking bad just yet. I got the achievement, and my pet had set off several mines. As long as you, the player, do not set them off by stepping in them, you’ll get the achievement.

I guess I got the achievement bug, then. Good to know, thanks.

I had no problem with Canach even after they removed the conditions. What really bothered me is that there was no talking before attacking him, no lore material and I got mad at Kiel for arresting him. Why? Because Canach is a beautifully developed character and Kiel is as deep as a spoon. Not what I want for a hero.
Besides, that’s what I got from the dialog alone:
Canach: I am going to free EVERYBODY and there is nothing you can do about it!
Kiel: YOU ARE NOT FREEING ANYBODY! THIS IS MY ISLAND YOU ARE UNDER ARREST CRIMINAL SCUM!
That bad.

I play as a ranger and I got the achievement bug too. I had to try 3 times before I finally unlocked it. Try again, maybe you will get it now.

There’s something about this update that made the game seem worse, it was like a downgrade. I did Canachs story mission and I’m not sure what to even say; It was a buggy, underdeveloped, rushed mess. It took less than 5 minutes to complete and I didn’t even bother with the explorable mode.

I don’t know, I really don’t know just what the hell was going through Anets minds when they did this, I’m hoping the meta event will be somewhat entertaining but after this update I can’t see it being good at all.

This game really really needs a polish update and a million things revamped, there are so many issues (CoF, arah story, most world bosses, unique loot ect.) that need to be adressed or else this game will die, which I don’t want it to because it is a good game, but it has things killing it. There needs to be HARD compelling content that gives suitable rewards. On top of this I’m really sick to death of seeing casuals crying that they didn’t get what they wanted. If they want it, then they should work to get it. (Although fair enough to those who didn’t get anything in all this temporary nonsense.)

Yeah, the solo instance is incredibly disappointing for me. One room, one boss. Annoying mechanics. Canach spent the fight knocking me back, I’d heal, attempt to disarm a mine at random, being unable to figure out how to tell a poison mine from a land mine and hope it hurts him.

I like all the events on the actual map, but this instance is just dissatisfying. Maybe they ran out of time to make it more eventful and exciting? It’s very bizarre that MF was so well done and fleshed out, while this instance isn’t. Even the solo instances in F&F were far better than this! Please, let the June update end satisfyingly. Again, I like the events on Southsun itself, but the ending instance just sucks. :/ Better luck next time.

Can’t use direct targeted AoE’s. It has to be an attack that proc’s conditions on targets that enter the area. For example, you can use the thief shortbow poison cloud attack to poison him. He won’t take damage from the attack, but he will get poisoned from being in the cloud, and he’ll take damage from that (and if you are going to kill him this way, pack a lunch because it’s going to take a while).

The reward is once per character. Can’t tell you if it’s per character per day for at least 3 more hours tho

I have been playing this game since launch and have to agree with Boreale.3129 that so much feels “rushed,” “incomplete,” and “buggy.” I am not adverse to single player games – for folks that like that sort of game. But I much prefer to run with friends which is why I choose “multi-player” games.

For the most part when things run smoothly in GW2, I truly enjoy it. But I have been running into bug after bug after bug and just am not enamored with that.

I agree with a lot of players that Anet just seems to be rushing to get content out and forgetting to address a lot of problems that are still in the game from launch.

I really wanted to like this game more than I do and am quickly tiring of all the issues that pop up.

Okay. Somehow I figured it out how to get him down to about 25 percent. It seems every time you lure him into a mine that is “green”(using the mine tool at a red mine) he is taking damage and then detonating all the mines… then rearming them(yellow). You can use the tool while they are yellow but they will reset after fully rearmed and red. Then you need to use it again.

Easy. But once he is at 25 percent he is attacking really fast and knocking back a lot more and detonating/rearming often… I somehow can’t knock him into a mine anymore.

Skill 5 of the tool to knock him back seems also to make him detonate/rearm even if he is not hit by a mine.

Now I only need to figure out what to do at 25 percent and how not to get hit.

Also: If the mine is green and you stand near it you don’t take damage it seems… so this probably is okay to stand there then.

I like the story and it’s interesting and fantastic but Canach and Null made me sad and worried….

Just before the release of Gw2 I played less another MMO and now I have almost quit playing it and that was because they said 3 new raids next update … and these raids was boss fights.

When I read that there was going to be a new Dungeon I was hoping for an interesting dungeon just like in F&F, instead it is just a boss fight… Meh, less than 30m later I am done with every achievement in Southsun again, sure there are lots of stuff to do and so on but this was a little to little :P

Let me explain how stupidly easy this whole instance can be. As a mesmer all i did was stack retaliation and stand in a corner as he hit me. YES all i did was make him punch himself to death and i got all the achievements. i didn’t need to heal or cast much all i needed to do wakitten my 4 key every 10 seconds and i won without doing anything else.

That’s sad. It seems that the Southsun content was rushed and not thought through very well. Granted, you can use retaliation to beat this boss…but what fun is there in that?

I like challenging encounters but not necessarily too easy or too difficult. Because not every class is balanced equally nor are players equally able (I mean this in the kindest way) because I am not the best player, it appears we will have “unequal” encounters depending upon your point of view. A poor player like myself, will find these things difficult to do on say my Elementalist, but my Ranger or Mesmer may not have any problem with it. I just think my gear and skill level varies depending on which character I am using to complete it with. But in the long run, being a poor player myself, I find it odd that I can just mash buttons on one character due to the gear/skill set but not on another.

I just tried it with tons of knockback now. Then it was easily possible to finish him without getting hit by mines and getting the achievement.

Since it seems he is not immune to knockbacks and stuff like that I used the mine, big ol’ bomb and ram on my engineer as well as the skill 5 of the mine tool. This worked.

Easier than trying to apply some conditions.

I enjoy the fight, the mines mechanic isn’t bad, but the issue I have is that if you aren’t paying rapt attention to the chatbox you miss out on crucial information. The animation Canach uses for detonating his mines is no different than the shield animation he uses to block; there is no way that I can see to distinguish them unless I’m watching the chatbox. This is completely opposite of the “don’t play the UI, play the game” mentality that spawned the minimalist UI, and it detracts from the enjoyment of the fight.

I agree that “don’t play the UI, play the game” is better than having to read the chat or look at the mini map. We should be able to play this game with a minimal or no hud and still understand what’s happening.

This is one thing that I would agree on as well. It would be nice to have a sound que or really obvious animation to indicate that the mines are about to go off. Chat log awareness being essential in single player is a little silly.

That being said, I got used to the mechanic and did end up completing it pretty easily, so this isn’t a major complaint for me. Just something I hope Anet notes in the future.

Eh, wouldn’t you say that a better que would improve this encounter, though? Canach will also occasionally freeze in place to defend with his shield, and I’ve had issues with him just loitering around a single area for a long time without detonation. One additional thing to help us get the tip would be nice, be it a simple noise, an onscreen prompt, or a specific animation with Canach or the mines.

Well his animation when exploding the bombs is just him sitting / kneeling, which I easily confused with his blocking animation at first. Nevertheless the content was way too easy and way too short. Seemed like anet ran out of time and just pushed this instead of admitting that they got nothing worthwhile.

Canach (and by extension the golem) both need stronger cues. An audio one would be ideal, often I found myself not even looking at Canach. The golem one just seems odd cause the only information in the box is to lure it into a land mine. Canach shouting “Prepare yourself!” or NULL going “ARMOR MODE ENGAGED” would have been very nice.

My issue is that the fights both lack any real excitement or tension. I feel like this is a missed opportunity to really show who Canach is and really flush out the character some more. The fights also lack complexity. Having a fight in stages could have helped there. For example players could start engaging Canach as normal, then he stealths and you have to lure him into the mines to reveal him so you can go back to pounding on him, repeat. Each time you introduce more mines, and of more varied types. That would have been perfect considering the training hallway you set up leading to him.

Indeed. First of you need to ping the mines. Second you need to id the different kinda of mines before the icons fade again. Third you need to place the right kind of GT circle near the mine (could not make sense if it was enough to overlap the trigger circle or if the actual mine model needed to be included) to turn it green.

All this require that you have the camera pointing in the direction of the mines, not Canach.

I’m not sure it CAN be done solo—————————since Canach is totally invulnerable to ANY damage (even his own mines). —-————-another prime example of the “cure being worse than the disease”———-“yes Igor, the brain transplant was a success———-but the patient died (of heart failure)”

I just killed him with mines, on my first try, as a warrior.

Some people really need to develop their reading ability, if not their logical-thinking ability. The NPC in the instance provided more-than-enough instruction on how to “use the detector and mine” to defeat Canach… In fact, the ability list on the detector also provide enough hints on how to use the mines to kill Canach…

The issue is not understanding how, but the amount of work needed to pull it off.

1. watch out for boss attacks that launch you, and later for his mine detonation.

2. pinging mines to see what kind they are and apply the appropriate GROUND TARGETED skill from a set of 3. Apply the wrong one, and the mine explodes on you. And all you get is a hazy icon.

3. do all that while running around so that the boss can’t keep hitting you with his basic attack. And watch out, mines also detonate if you get too close. And they only show the trigger circle for a short while after being pinged.

To me that spells information overload.

You can’t be serious. How could this be information overload? If this is indeed information overload, how do you handle regular school/work loads?

I cope as best i can, but i am clearly too old a soul for for the stimulant fueled modern world.

I created a topic during F&F to discuss the merits/flaws of ending primarily solo content with a 5 man dungeon. It turned out to be a pretty contentious topic.

Whether this new ending structure to Southsun was a response to that or planned all along I think it is a great format.

Single player instance that tops off the story for those who cannot fathom entering a 5 man dungeon and an explorable mode on the side for those who do. Thats perfect imo.

Thanks Anet. Jus’ throwin’ it out there that I love that direction!

well I disagree, I play this MMO to do these things in groups, not solo my way through all the content.

I like to be social. I do not like this direction at all. I don’t want all dungeons from now on to be solo dungeons.

I’m putting both above the jellyfish boss here.

After the brilliant boss in Molten Facility, this was a huge disappointment.

There are ways to make bosses easy and simple without making the completely one-dimensional. The solo instance is a clear failure in that aspect. The only redeeming aspect is it’s really short, but even that can be slightly hindered by the achievement.

The group instance is just as bad. The mechanic is so simple and one-dimensional that it basically doesn’t exist. The boss is a slightly glorified tank and spank.

Out of curiosity, did the same person design these two instances and the jellyfish boss?

I don’t see the problem. We have a single player instance that moves the story for people who just want to get on with… whatever they like to do in game. And then the usual 5 man dungeon. Personally I was happy seeing the single player Canach, so that I could do something that wouldn’t take an hour or two. I can’t speak to difficulty of the exp dungeon, but I don’t see either hardcore or casual being robbed in what was essentially a 50/50 compromise. o.O

Really this so called “dungeon” just didn’t do it for me. 15 minuets of poor quality content doesn’t exactly make me want to keep playing the game. And yes I realize that WvW had some upgrades, and the gem store has a woping two new items, but looking from a PvE stand-point, this was just flat out disappointing.

The Hatchery and Retake Cragstead. Needless to say we can’t even start to compare them to Canach’s Lair.

-One room dungeon, annoying boss fight. Bomberman was funnier than this boss.
-WvW ascended rings take 25 laurels a piece. Only worthy ascended accessory from WvW is the amulet.
-Unappealing new infusions
-Got 2 levels in WvW (4 chests), just BoH and a few silvers.
-No NPC swimwear

I’m also quite disappointed.

I’m disappointed, too. I looked forward to this patch and I had so much hoped that we’ll get an instance like the ones of Rox and Braham in which we can meet Canach again. But this is... too short... and after his dialogue Kiel sends him away.
I waited months to finally see Canach again and than that. Makes me feel so sad, although I like the dialogue-scene and what Canach said in there.
Besides... still no Mini-Canach. Hoped so much that maybe we’ll get one. Now I’m really sad... *cry*
