Rigging crab toss for Acheivement
I agree that coordinating to get the Crab Toss achievements is silly if someone wants to play normally, but you’re certainly going too far by suggesting those people are exploiting.
Okay so what about people like me who love the game, but live in Australia. The latency issue pretty much guarantees I’ll never win a game. It’s impossible to keep away from people if you can’t actually see where they are.
Basically most people who live outside the US but not in Europe is screwed out of that achievement/title.
I have all the other titles, but not that one.
Leave the game, join a new one. Rinse and repeat untill normal game is found…Or organize with other competitors and get a normal game going. These people were obviously resourceful enough to rig a game…

I play from Australia and I can get Champion quite regularly. Latency is well compensated for in GW2 compared to many other games.

Half the time when I go to knock the ball from someone’s hand, they’re ten feet away a second later. I know it’s not the computer. My connection is pretty fast. I don’t have the problem in SPvP, but I definitely have it here.
Also I should mention there were quite a few australians talking about the same thing in Lion’s Arch, who have the same problem. Maybe it’s where you are in Australia but this isn’t my imagination.

I live in Brisbane and my connection is mediocre. I think what you’re experiencing are the lag spikes that plague this particular minigame, it happens to everyone. Not a latency problem.

That may be. But I don’t think I’m bad enough at the game to never get more than half the high score. Maybe I am.
I watch my wife play on her machine as well, it’s right next to mine and the same thing happens to her. But I’m thinking that even if there’s a .25 second latency, which doesn’t seem unreasonable, it would give anyone but the absolute best players no chance at all.
The crabtaculous one.. I was tempted to suggest people to rig it every time I would be playing. It’s simply impossible for me, because it depends on the whole team chasing you trough karka’s and not dodging trough them when they all roll on them. It also depends on there not being a smartass that picks a different path to follow you.
I do agree that rigging is bad though. I just settled for missing out on those 10 points. I think that the achievement itself should be changed to “held the crab when the match ended” or something like that.
Conspiring in a free for all, while kinda lame, is perfectly fine IF EVERYONE IS IN AGREEMENT. If you ask nicely and suggest people who don’t want to participate go to another normal match then it’s reasonable. If 3 of the 8 people agree and then proceed to fishing pole lock any naysayers…well that’s proof those people’s parents didn’t hug them enough as a children.
It ruins the game for people who actually want to play as crab toss was intended. It is sad that people don’t like to compete in a game that was made for competition for the sake of a few measly achievement points.
There is a difference between earning achievements and cheating to get them. It is pathetic that people have to find exploits or different means to getting achievements. If you can’t get the achievement normally than you have no business playing that type of content, but of course you could just practice and get better.
I was called out because I was playing crab toss normally and these players were saying I was ruining it for them. I tried to tell them to challenge themselves but they just continued to call me kitten and such.
How can Anet deter these carebears? The content is easy enough , it just takes a little bit of time. I would rather have a game that had less carebears and a small population than a sea of whiners.
Players act like if they can’t get what they want as fast as possible the world is going to end. It is a game, nothing more.
I admit I am complaining about the complainers. It is just sad that people don’t like challenges. Jumping puzzles for instance are easy , but surprisingly some people can’t take the time to figure them out. They would rather cry on the forums.
sure tell everyone to stop playing thieves warrior and guardians and rangers so they dont get passive movement speed buff nor aegis then you can ask players to stop rigging the game
I’m not a fan of “rigging achievements” (including mesmer portals, but that’s another story) but with Craptacular seeming simply out of reach to many players, I can understand the frustration.
I’d rather have an achievement than an acheatment, but I cannot honestly say whether or not I would have resorted to rigging it while running out of time to get the achievement.
I managed, but only because circumstances were in my favour one night.
I think other players who feel they are hopeless (literally) at crab toss would have benefitted from 1. ascending difficulty as they progress through the mini game, 2. more varied achievements and 3. being able to play with/against friends.
Reasoning and discussion I posted here:

I think this is commonly referred to as achievement boosting. It’s done in more games than just GW2. When people want to get achievements without hassle, they organize a group to do so. As far as I know, no game development company has deemed this to be cheating.
Keep in mind that people may have limited play time. Who knows, maybe they’re leaving for something the next day. These people may like to have all the achievement lines filled out, but can’t seem to get it via normal playing. The mini game is temporary content, making one of these achievements a bad offender (Crabtacular relying on luck).
If you don’t like the way they do it, you have two options at this point. Leave or continue about your business (which some may argue you know you’re purposely trolling/annoying them). It’s similar to parties for dungeons. Don’t force people to skip mobs, don’t force people to kill all mobs. Find the group that suits you. Trying to sway the majority present will only result in arguments and rage.

I am finding the Crabtacular! achievement to be nearly impossible. Something this difficult should not be part of the game. As someone who is willing to put in a significant amount of time to get all the achievements, I should not be forced to rely on other players creating the ideal conditions to get this achievement. With prior content we had difficult achievements, but they did NOT rely on others (ie JPs in Halloween and Wintersday). This achievement is ludicrous. I do not want to “coordinate” with other players and would like to play the game as intended, but this is nearly impossible. I am extremely upset that this was put in the game and hope that a game developer reads this and responds as to why this happened.

I think things like red resign day are considered exploits, so this might be as well. Although, i dont think its serious enough to warrant any action.

The crabtacular achievement is meant to be a bit of good natured fun. It gives meaningless achievement points and doesnt even give a title. So what if it involves a bit (okay, a lot) of luck? You dont lose anything from not getting the achievement. If you need the sense of satisfaction in completing it, then go ahead and grind away. Just know that if you instead play for fun you’ll get the achievement sooner or later and you may enjoy yourself more.
As a side note, isnt any pvp activity reliant on other players creating favorable conditions, such as making a mistake or using poor strategy?
Crabtacular has also become a lot easier to achieve since the Friday patch. Previously you needed to have the entire enemy team downed at once (with you staying alive) for the achievement to trigger. Now you just need to get 3 – 5 enemy kills while carrying the Crab; it doesn’t need to be all at once.

carebears
I would have thought they were speedrunners, not carebears.
