"Chase the Zerg" is a bad game
I agree with the OP… spreading out the population would make each event more interesting. As it is, running around with an enormous zerg, spamming your AOE taggin skill and [F] (for the loot) is not really that fun.
Stop crying, the content is different, and great.
“You have SO MANY ZONES in this game, we could easily be doing numerous things simultaneously, with reasonable numbers of people”
You had ALOT of events like that in the past. If you dont like this one, just dont play it and stop freakin cryin on forums that you dont like it…
I’m providing feedback related to this living story chapter in its forum section. If you have some kind of issue with that, I suggest you contact a professional for further advice.

don’t chase the zerg. there’s more than enough events to do in the invasion zone.
problem solved
they already did a great attempt at spreading the events in the entire zone.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
Go watch the videos on twitch. You should be closing portals and killing specific mobs before the timer runs out to get a chance at Scarlet. If there is a massive zerg when you get there then find the next portal instead of balling up.
This content seems to be an anti-zerg trainer but not everyone is tuned in yet. According to the twitch stream, it’s also here long term but will be less frequent than every hour. Great news for us who are actually enjoying this.

You’ve contributed nothing of worth to the discussion.
I know where you’re coming from OP. I enjoyed it when I was doing one of the events with 10 other people (and it was quite challenging), but as soon as one of the Commander led key spamming zerg trains arrived, it was horrid and immediately trivialised the content. The worst part is when a giant Scarlet finally arrives and is swiftly melted by over a hundred people mashing their key-binds.
I really do like this large warfare style event (much more than being stuck down that hole in Divinity’s Reach) but I would have preferred there to be more than one zone under attack at any one time to break up the herd. This is permanent content though, so I imagine it might change eventually when there’s less people doing it and we therefore need to coordinate as a server

Multi-quoting is slow in this forum.

In most cases what happens in practice is that I go to an event and end up with a collection of other people, which might be a handful or a dozen, and as we’re doing that, elsewhere players are swarming from one to another to another and so on. Ultimately playing like this, we miss most of what went on. Probably why people zerg in the first place.
Having things spread out on one map isn’t counter to zerging – follow a few cycles of champion farming in CS or Frostgorge. Even spreading them out over multiple maps wouldn’t stop it entirely, but at least there would be more content available for people who get bored to death of swarming it or missing it.

That is only true if you want to finish the invasion. If you want to farm the invasion and don’t care about completion, zerging is the way to go. More mobs, more champions and lot more loot. Got a couple of champion skins from zerging 2 invasions.
That being said, I also when for completion in some invasions and I’ve finished Molten and Aetherblade events with as few as 3 people, including myself.
The event seems more designed to spread people through out the map and small groups are more effective at actually finishing the event than zergs.
The problem is people don’t do that and are instead running around in 2 or 3 massive zergs farming champs causing the events to upscale so much that it takes too long and fails.
Although this might get better after people finish achievements and get sick of farming it.

Actually I find that the event is best completed by spreading out as much as possible. Many events can be done quite fast by 3-4 players and if you avoid commander tags you a) are more helpful b) may get a decent challenge.
I do agree that the way it works has flaws (when you zerg you get rewarded more for doing less) but that’s a sacrifice you gotta make when you design a game in which meeting another player is never a bad thing. How else would you do open world Living Story?

I don’t necessarily think the events spawn more champions the more people there are. Aetherblade events always seem to spawn 2 champions at a time per event no matter how many people show up, only certain portals spawn champion watchknight horrors, and molton alliance events only have one champion which is the main one per event.
They seemed to design the event with the intention of spreading the zerg as much as possible, however these events are still quite easy and you seem to make 5 different zergs instead of one big one.
Either way I don’t see how you can design an event that involves an entire full zone and have it be more strategic then the one they have designed now.

Depending on the population, sure. I’ve got into a few overflows like this because while there are zergs, they’re not enough to deal with the scaling. Of course that doesn’t actually mean they spread out. More likely it just fails, but then, I’m not sure if that wasn’t the intent all along.
Also doesn’t help that, in a lack of tags, the only way to know if there’s already loads of people where you’re going is to hope someone there (if there is anyone there) will respond to say as much in /map, or to go there, find out, and have to try again elsewhere.
Is there any rhyme or reason to where Scarlet spawns? At the end, I mean.
I don’t chase the zerg.
I give them intelligent escort for no additional charge.

No but she is invuln for about 15 seconds and flies very quickly across the map. If you open the match and look you can see which direction she is heading and then WP there before she is attackable.
I think It would go a long way to make 2 zones invaded at once during the event and then cut it back to 1 zone once the event is completed. This would give players more space to spread out and thin the zerg.
I’ll agree with a few comments already posted, don’t form a solid zerg. Spread out. If you have a commander tag, go to another event that doesn’t have a commander, players tend to gravitate towards them. Also if you are fighting and notice that the zerg has grown in size significantly, port to another event. We did one last night, had about 7 commanders on the map and they were all spread out and no one was zerging too much, and we completely wrecked the invasion. it was tons of fun.

I agree WHEN you have multiple commanders working together. IF there is only one commander tag you see everyone just follow them around and the event fails.
But when you have multiple commanders and people are working together in map chat the event is very good. I just left a successful completion where it came down to 30secs before we completed it. Map chat was going off trying to get people not to get distracted. It was kitten good fun.
