I don’t mind some of the achievements I’ve done but this one has become particularly grating imo.

Sitting at 11/13 I’m actually wondering which ones I haven’t done. Interestingly I did make a list but at some point I attended an event that didn’t register so I now have to do some of them again.

The length and activities involved being rather repetitive made it very time consuming to go back and do them again and unwanted.

I enjoyed the first few fights I participated in but slowly got dis-interested. Now sitting at 11/13 being unsure which ones exactly I have done, I’ve found myself going afk when in the middle of the fight due to dis-interest.

Sure I can walk away and not participate in them anymore, but it would feel a waste to not have the 25AP given how close I am.

Overall this event consumes a lot of time, is randomised so you often have to wait and hope the ones u need come up. Then if your like me, you have to repeat them and hope you find the missing one.

As I already said I could simply walk away, but more to the point if I want the AP i don’t feel I’m benefiting the map as much as I should because I’m not putting much effort in. 25 AP is a lot I suppose, but this AP in particular feels unnecessarily drawn out.

That’s my take on it anyways, just wondering how others feel.

Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

I agree with you completely. If they had made a prompt that told you which maps you were missing it would make this achievement marginally more acceptable, but the combined fact that sometimes events fail to register, that it takes 13 hours minimum to complete, that the map rotation is completely random… This achievement is just absolutely disgusting.

What happened to giving some leeway with the living story achievements? Cutthroat politics didn’t require every single achievement done to “complete” it. The Queen’s Gauntlet didn’t either. I don’t see what’s wrong with allowing 10/13 map invasions attended to finish this achievement.

For the ‘Balloon Tower Tourist’ I had a similar situation in terms of it not registering, and therefore losing track which ones I had done. But It didn’t matter, I could simply go to a tower I knew I hadn’t done and bypass the bugs and uncertainty.

For this achievement you are thrust right back into it.

I am at 11/13 and know one of the two maps as I haven’t had it rotate on for me yet.

For the other one I’m missing though, I have repeated every map. Therefore some map is repeatedly not updating for me and I have absolutely no way to find out which one it is.

It is beginning to look like I will end with 12/13 at best.

Perhaps the 13/13 AP requirement is for the “hard core” group. I have no idea, honestly. I don’t consider myself hard core but I do enjoy the challenging stuff a lot. Out of this version of the LS I haven’t really seen anything “challenging” even though ArenaNet’s made it a point to appeal to the “hard core” group in the previous releases, so I don’t know if devoting a minimum of 13 hours and probably double that due to the way the invasions cycle is the “challenge.”

On that note, I suppose it is a challenge to juggle Real Life around a game so you can put in that much time into it for an achievement. I’ve decided I’m not that dedicated.

In another thread I saw someone post that they had seen a dev comment that you need to tag a champ Twisted for the invasion credit to work. If that’s so, it should be much more widely broadcast. I am at 12/13, just waiting for Mount Maelstrom to pop, and I know I have in fact fought a Twisted champ in every invasion simply because I’ve been fully involved and following commanders and the Twisted spawn before Molten and Aether.

I’m lucky enough to have the time to play right now and only missed the last Mount M I saw because we had a guild mission set for that hour and that came first for me. I feel quite sorry for people who only have a few hours a week to spare.

I completely agree. Particularly the random map rotation is the WORST PIECE OF kitten IDEA in this event. 11 hours and NO Mount Maelstrom and Frostgorge has not been on AT ALL since I started doing invasions. Yes, SEVERAL days and NO Frostgorge. But Fireheart, Harathi and Field of Ruin are up several times a day.

Josh Davis:

Hey folks,

We’re still looking into this.

As I mentioned before, there are a few things that MIGHT be affecting your ability to complete these achievements:

Killing Molten Alliance or pirates does not count towards event credit.

Killing spawns from the Clockwork part piles does not count towards event credit.

The best bet for getting event completion is going to be taking down the Clockwork champions. They are directly tied to event completion.

Please keep providing details when you fail to receive completion.

Thank you!

Thats kind of silly considering the Aetherblade and Molten Alliance killing is key to completing the event (yet not the achievement…). They should fix this as it might make it so people are not farming the reinforcements, making it harder to successfully complete the event.

Guys, looks like a fix ain’t coming

Hi guys,

After some careful investigation of these achievements, we believe there are a few technical restrictions and communication issues that are causing the problems here.

First, Molten and Pirate events do not grant achievement credit. This means that if you hop into an invasion right as scarlet spawns, or if you spend an entire invasion on pirate and/or molten events, you will not get achievement credit for that map.

Second, disconnecting during an invasion seems to have some odd effects on participation credit, especially if you end up switching maps in the process (i.e. moving to a different overflow). You should still get credit if you participate in at least one watchwork event after reconnecting, but if you disconnect, you should assume your participation credit up to that point has been lost. This is far from ideal, but it would be a code-level fix, and we wouldn’t be able to get it in before the end of the event.

Lastly, because the previous two issues are not super obvious, people may be losing track of which maps they have already gotten credit for. The meta rewards are always given as long as you’re on the map when it ends. Many players expect this to mean that they also received achievement credit (which ideally should be a reasonable assumption). However, as this is not always the case, they may mark off a map as complete, even though they did not receive achievement credit.

So in order to receive achievement credit, you need to participate and complete at least one watchwork portal event, and still be on the map when the meta ends. It doesn’t matter how far the meta gets progressed, and you don’t need to participate in any Molten/Pirate events.

Hopefully this clarifies some things for you, and many apologies for any frustration this has caused. In the future, we will try to ensure that large-scale achievements like this are more easily trackable to cut down on any potential confusion.

I can’t claim to know everyone’s personal mental situation, but is it really that difficult to remember which zones you’ve completed an invasion in?

Your memory will never improve if you don’t actively try to remember things.

This is the sort of bugs we seen from the beta because the dungeon achievements also have the same problem. I also had one that did not register anymore but I don’t care about the achievements anymore. All the new activities are kinda stupid.. yeah like you said the first fight is oke after that it’s boring. Same with the 30 balloons and more of that sort of junk. Just a tip. If you want to have fun… meaning don’t feeling pressured just leave the living story for what it is and hope that Anet will at some point introduce some decent new content in stead of all these (soon) boring temporary content that have as only goal creating a sense or urgency and pressure to play and buy gems.

If you focus on the living story part it’s like focusing on the commercial breaks when watching a movie on TV.

No. It isn’t. What is difficult is to know which one is not counting for you. Repeatedly. As in you have done all maps several times and are still 12/13.

The good thing is if you got the Flame and Frost one then you know it’s not Frostgorge or Fireheart. Still leaves 11 maps though. It also doesn’t help when the same maps pops twice in a row, or it goes back to the one that was up before the one you just completed. There’s a time flow problem in that this achievement takes 13 hours to complete, and if the same map pops up that just completed or the same one from two hours ago, it’s another hour before we get a chance again. I haven’t seen Iron Marches in days, and that is the last one I for sure need.
