At first I was annoyed by Scarlet. Really, studied at all three Asura colleges, and is better than the Asura at all of them? I couldn’t stand her or how she’d pop up, say something cringe-worthy, and then teleport away again.

But then in her dungeon, when she was killing herself on explosive barrels that just happened to be lying around, I realized something: she’s a Saturday morning cartoon villain. That may not sit well with people who want a serious story, but once you realize that Scarlet is on the same level as Skeletor or Team Rocket she gets a lot more tolerable.

On the topic of Elder Dragons and their (lack of) personalities, I am kind of hopeful that one of the Elder Dragons surprises us all by talking directly to our characters. If executed well, it could be scary and awesome.

Like Harbinger, Mass Effect-style?

ASURA: VIABLE POSSIBILITY, GREAT MAGICAL POTENTIAL.
CHARR: VIABLE POSSIBILITY, IMPRESSIVE TECHNICAL POTENTIAL.
HUMAN: USELESS, INSUFFICIENT NUMBERS.
SYLVARI: RELIANCE UPON THE PALE TREE FOR REPRODUCTION SHOWS GENETIC WEAKNESS.
NORN: YOU ARE CONSIDERED TOO… PRIMITIVE.

I would actually like to see Elder Dragons do something like that. That would give them more personality.

And speaking of Scarlet: her talents and such coupled with her madness would make sense for me if she was a minion of a more powerful force (such as the Elder Dragons or the Inquest) that could back her. That I could accept.
