1. Map travel icons pop-up during the HUGE fight that I fought so hard to get to and start hitting things with my KITTEN Ele that we all go into when we actually find the zergs on each map.

2. Player, me, clicks on, “Travel”

3. Player, a more frustrated me, lands in a ZONE with NO zerg, NO other players and at a WAYPOINT not anywhere NEAR where I “traveled from”.

4. Player, ME, would like Anet to FIX THIS.

I only got into one original map and completed the event. Every other time was an overflow. Funny thing, me and other teammates were in overflow that had no event when the UI to ask us to travel pops up. We all eagerly click ‘travel’ and … we’re in another overflow with nothing happening. /facepalm.
We did get in an overflow with the event but there were so few that it failed miserably. The night was chaotic and no amount of party members trying to join the lucky ones to make it in, worked. We just got errors.
At least I did it once. Some people gave up after trying 3 or 4 times.

If I understand correctly, you were doing the chaos event in an overflow map, you got the message that the main map was ready and whether you wanted to travel there, and you did, right?.

If that’s the case, to everyone that has that happen, DO NOT click on travel to the map, instead leave the queue. If you’re getting that message it means that the regular map is emptying up, which usually means that the event is finished over there, if you click on travel you’ll miss the event ending (and getting credit for it) on the overflow you’re on, and land in the main map where the event is already over, or if you took too long to click, on another overflow with no event.

The problem is that when the main map finishes their event they all leave so suddenly 100,000 players all get the popup for traveling to the main map. The first 300 or so get in to a map that is done with the event and are screwed over. The rest of the people that also clicked travel get sent to a brand new overflow that is created from all the people trying to travel to the main map and since the map is done with the event the overflow no longer spawns a new event. Thus everyone that hits travel is out of luck.

In conclusion, don’t travel to the main map. I kinda assumed that would be common sense, but I guess not.

How does it makes sense to have a map travel pop up AT ALL unless there is going to be a LIKE event on the MAIN MAP after THEY SAID THERE WILL BE???

My gosh, so many people thinking I am pulling the words out of thin air, ANET stated it would be so, so the map travel dialog is an annoyance and has caused me to DIE several times because I could not click it off soon enough…

How about thinking about what ANET stated and what is happening rather than saying something about “common sense”.

Common sense would dictate that the map travel dialog would not even come UP after ten minutes after the start of any event – but then not to have it there when you are asked to go – they say it will be ok, your events will still be in progress… and you get to them and there isn’t a single event, the maps, instances, weren’t concurrent AT ALL.

How is this common sense now?

I hope you realize that the overflow functions have existed long before this event.

The reason why the main server had spots for you, as other posters here have noted, is most likely because the event is done there and people are leaving. Why else would spots open for you?

That’s why they have a “leave quene” option.

Since the overflows are different servers, or at least different instances, it’s pretty obvious that the events on your homeworld and the overflow server, while happening concurrently, are different and you shouldn’t leave an overflow event once it’s started if you want to complete it.

This is a completely different issue from events not happening in overflows that were created <10 minutes after the event started.

Overflow events seemed to be working good for me. If some are having errors with those created in the first 10 minutes having an event they should report it as such. What the OP’s complaining about and suggesting makes no sense.

Of course a pop needs to come up if your home world is available. Not everyone going to a map will be there for the event.

And traveling off an overflow map with an event running because you get the popup is no where near anything common sense would dictate doing.

The only possible “real” non-bug issue that could happen would be if a main instance finished the event before the 10 minute window was up, and I find that hard to believe.

I have been through no less than three events that had me map travel INSIDE THE TEN MINUTE LIMIT and there is NO WAY the “other” map that is, by ANET’s decree, had the SAME EVENT ON THE MAP CONCURRENTLY.

There is NO WAY that the map was “finished” in ten minutes or less!

Apparently there are some who just don’t get that I haven’t had this happen once and many others have had it happen as well.

If it is NOT supposed to be concurrent, don’t TELL us in the release notes that IT IS.

Just asking for a bit of logic for gosh sakes.

If I had made up that line and not taken it directly from the release notes, ok, but ANET said it, and it hasn’t been true, not once.

Remove it or sync it!

Using the obvious logic, there could be some players that left the map during the first 10 minutes due to connection errors or not wanting to be on that map for whatever reason. This will show a pop-up dialog for the next person waiting in queue. It really isn’t that hard. You make it seem as though this overflow queue system is a new thing.

Leaving a map mid-event has -always- meant not getting to finish that event. As these invasions specifically say you must be there for the start and end of the event, leaving is highly unwise.

Now, I can feel your pain at having reaction-clicked to travel. But the event overflow is working exactly as they said it would:

You port to the map. You either arrive in main or an overflow. So long as you arrive within 10 minutes of start, you have the event going. If you zone to another overflow after that, it is most likely being created right then, ie after the ten minute window. You’re not likely to land in a populated overflow that is mid-event, as the whole idea of overflows is more get made as more people enter the map.

That doesn’t answer to the reported issue of people zoning inside of two minutes and not getting an event. However, swapping zones midway through is not going to work. You’ll no longer be in a concurrent one.

I understand what your saying OP, but to relieve the frustration, leave the que; don’t travel to the main map.

If your already part of a zerg that’s busting up the invasions fairly good.. why leave? Perhaps the event crashed, or bugged out on the main map.

If you think there’s a bug (I can’t tell because your posts contain more complaints than actual information), then report it.

In the meantime, simple workaround that has already been stated is that you don’t leave the instance you are in, if it’s working fine. Especially since you believe that there is a bug with 100% repro rate, for you to continue using the Travel feature is the definition of insanity.

This system seems pretty simple and easy to me.

1. Be ready with your toon at the start of the hour.

2. When the hour hits and the icon tells you where the fight is happening, go there. You will be put in a zone where the event is happening. You got 10 minutes to do it. After 10 minutes you just get a regular zone to do regular stuff. Don’t leave the zone and travel to the main zone because you might miss the fight altogether. Unless your alone but so far in any zone I’ve been in there were lots of players. But you might miss the event if you travel no matter what.

3. Look on your map for red events go and fight. Follow the others. Fight some more. If you get lost refer to your map for red events or look for a Blue Commander Icon. Most of the time they will be heading for the next fight. You can use the way stations within the map, just don’t go outside the state or county the fight is happening in i.e. Queensland.

4. It’s easy to get left behind especially if you like want to look for your loot. Loot is kinda easy to miss. It should fall next to you like WvW not all over the battlefield. But it is what it is. Most of the Champions with Gold Halos drop a chest of some kind.

This seems pretty practical to me and easy to use. The fights take about 45 minutes and you get a lot of stuff at the end.
