Asura quest "Beta Test" too difficult
If I remember correctly, his only REAL ohkitten button is that slow-charge AoE fireball that nearly one shots you. Just save your dodge for that and you can easily mitigate the rest of the damage. That’s how I did it, anyway, as a fairly squishy engineer with no defensive abilities.

Try sword + pistol. Let Shodd eat the opening fireball, and use pistol whip + black powder to keep the veterans blind and/or dazed. I was able to do the quest first try with no kiting or healing, though Shodd managed to grab aggro from the harpy early so it was pretty easy from there.
Try also using disabling shot on the SB, which evades, cripples AND snares while doing damage. With that ability alone I was able to solo champion mobs and eat a sandwich at the same time. Save your endurance when your ini is low and use disabling to evade back with your endurance is low.
Yeah, level 14 is a liiiitle early for mobs with one-shot fireballs to have adds. Or even for one-shot fireballs. One-shot fireballs are really no fun at all inside a story where you don’t have back-up. Really one-shot fireballs are just plain no fun ever, and should be avoided whenever possible. I do not like Destroyer Harpies. I’ve beaten that mission on two different characters, a beta Engineer and a launch Thief, but it was not a fun one in either instance (the story is good though, so it’s my favorite Asura line so far).
I forget the tactic I used on my Thief, but it probably involved DB stacking and then running like kittens. I also might have had ambush available, which has been one of my goto skills for a while, and they can help to suck up agro.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”
As a necro, I used staff for pseudo-traps and all-minion skills. Then I kited for my life, and just plain kept running until my minion cooldowns were up. Not sure how to duplicate that on thief, though. Best of luck!
Dodge is what u use for the big hit. The rest of the hits dont hurt like the big slow charge up hit.
Seriously, whoever thought this quest was a good idea should get his head examined. As a thief this is not doable.
Really this is not a rewarding combat. You just can’t see when the fireball is coming. I like challenges, but here, it’s a stupid combat. You’re still supposed to learn the basics at level 14. Why make the combat such an awful one ? There isn’t even a loading bar for the fireball so we can see it load and try to escape it in time…
Edit : I finally managed to do it as a thief lvl 14. You have to dodge when you see the harpy going up. She flies upwards and then spits the firebolt. So when you see it fly up you move really far away and then you have time to see the firebolt come and dodge it.

I don’t really remember how I beat this one on my Asura Ele… I probably did so by bringing Glyph of Lesser Elementals and letting the Elemental tank for me while I spammed as much AoE as I could to kill off all the lesser mobs, along with throwing up Geyser and Healing Rain to keep my Elemental and Shodd alive. (Shodd is surprisingly tanky!)
