Hello to you all.
Imagine you have spent a lot of time nursing up a perfect character, spent a lot of money leveling up Crafting and consumed lots of consumable. Completed events and getting karma jugs, literally drinking that stuff like it the fountain of life.
I must say there is something I deeply regret after spending LOTS of all these things; I choose the Durmand Priory Order.

Here is my “personal story”:

After carefully evaluating each order, ups and downs (with the limited information I had from the few missions), and what they sounded like, I narrowed it down to either the Durmand or the Whispers.
With my first character, I finally choose whispers (after a LONG time of consideration). I really liked that choice (had a blast with that story line), and when I got that point with my warrior, I basically thought:
“Well, the Whispers are awesome, so the other orders must be just as awesome!”
What a naive thought…
I’m not going to say: “This order sucks ew ew ew”

Instead, I’ll say that this order does not fit me or my opinions at all. I simply can’t “live into it”, which means I don’t see myself, or my character in there. I see this as just another Heart which must be earned now. This is NOT how it is supposed to be. The story is supposed to fit yourself and your character, and while some might find the Durmand fun, I certainly do not.

But what can be done about that? Nothing, at all.

So what is the purpose of this post? Is there a purpose at all when nothing can be done about it?

Yes. The purpose of the post is to highlight this… Issue… As some would call it. For me, it certainly has become an issue. To get a new story line, I must now level up a new warrior, thereby wasting all my efforts on my current warrior. This is not an attractive alternative, or one that I would want to take. But it might just be necessary unfortunately.

This post has another purpose as well, and this is where YOU come in: Would it be reasonable make it so that you can change orders? with gems perhaps? Where should the story start from? Should you be able to do it past a certain level? Rewards? Perhaps a little side story with the new order accepting you in? And of course:

Would it be fair at all?

In other words, you opinion on this subject.

While I would love to have characters be able to go back and switch orders. As the weapons for the priory didn’t show up correctly in preview and I would love to have them on my guardian… sadly don’t expect it to happen. Either delete and reroll or just get over it and move on is the unfortunate truth to the situation.

after completing the game, the other pacts should open up for story replay value.

I think I remember ArenaNet posting during beta that they planned to allow you to switch Orders or join the others once you finish Act 1 of your personal story, eventually. I would also like to change orders for whenever the next phase of the personal story is added to the game, as well as for weapon skins. I’m bored of my Order lol

I have the same exact wish.
On my first character I didn’t even know that my pick will have a huge impact on what skins I may obtain at level 80. Joined the Order and they did fit my personal playing style and story on my thief, but founding myself end-game, gearing up, I set my sights on the Vigil gear :/ It would be insane to reroll at this point, I’m pretty attached to the character itself already anyway, so I would love to see Anet taking some steps to help people like me.
I would gladly replay the storyline with the Vigil to get the skins I like…

exact same thing here!

I feel terrible about not being able to switch orders. Not only does this hinder me from spending more money on GEMS to get the fine transmutation stones that i would have used, it sort of feels detached from the “do what you want to do” playstyle of GW2.

If people feel as if it would break immersion then let us become honorary agents in the other orders, which could also serve as a way to enhance the story experience. After one helps a friend, or anyone, with another story quest X number of times, let’s say 6-10 times depending on level, they become a honorary agent in that order with access to the Armor and weapons.

This would provide the game with an additional gold sink, it would make the personal story more involving, allowing those with only one character a glimpse of the other personal story lines, as well as opening up the possibility to sell more GEMS for transmuting the looks of the weapons and armors. In the end everyone wins. Let’s make this happen!

I would love to change orders or become an ally of an alternative one. It would expand the personal story options greatly. I’m unhappy with the armor offered in my current order and I’m already lvl 80. I’ve gotten so very into my character (as I thought we were supposed to) and it just wont feel the same to try and lvl a new one (I think I would give up first) just for the change. Even if it were a gem related option it would still be great. So please oh please Arenanet allow this option.

If they decide not to allow it at least make the Armor and weps of each order Bind on Account so we can use the skins across our characters.

You can still obtain gear from the other orders. You simply need to create new character, join a different order (about lv30), buy the gear, transmute it to white item (model the same, stats from white). This will make that item account bound. Then you just have to put it in your bank. With this method my warrior which has joined the vigil is currently wearing a full whispers armor :]

@Venirto, thanks so much. I tired it and it works perfectly. It most definitely solves the armor concern. And I guess I got to experience the story part, sort of, just on an alternative character. Cheers

Accessing the other orders would also be nice for getting access to their Asura portals at the order’s bases – that said, you can “backtrack” from the portal trio at Fort Trinity, ie arrive via the whispers portal, then map out again thru the vigil portal

Kinda glad I choose whispers for that reason, it provides a reasonable easy means of getting from Lions Arch to Orr, and effectively halves the waypoint costs then.
