For those people still bugged… I’m trying to track down the issue (which we haven’t been able to reproduce.) What scenes, if any, played when you reached the barricade at the end of the cave? What’s your current objective? Was Trahearne dead when you reached the barricade?

No scene plays at the end of the cave – the NPCs (apart from Trehearne) still don’t want to enter the tunnel where it starts to slope down. All NPCs are still alive, including one I ressed at the start, waiting at the instance entrance – maybe that’s the bug? I’ve even gone around to the outside of the barricade – nothing happens.

Am I getting annoyed? Yes. I’ve wasted about 6 hours trying to outfox this bug.

I think the issue is that Zott or Trahearne are dead, in combat, out of range, or otherwise fail to play one of their scenes at the barrier. I added some additional redundancies so the quest will continue whether or not the scenes fire off successfully, which will also be in the 9/24 update.

Jeffrey, does this mean we will pass this quest NO MATTER WHAT?

Since I am not going to try this quest if there is still a chance it might bug out, could you answer this?

And if not, could you consider giving everyone a pass somehow? I think it’s only fair after almost two weeks to enable us to finish our storylines. I am lvl 80 now and I already missed out on all the story quests while doing Orr. I do respect your work and I’m understanding of bugs in a game this big, but this is gamebreaking and it’s only fair we expect anet to deliver it’s promise to us by now.

Still broken as of 3:09pm PST 9/18/12. Ran it three times. Trahearne was not dead/in combat before the scene with the researchers. As we cleared the tunnel, he was the only one to follow me down the tunnel. No scene played.

Can we get a definitive answer on this pls, i really don’t want to spend 2hrs in there again wasting money on repairs and travel for it to bug out for the 7th time, last play through no npcs dead but they still refuse to follow to the exit marker. Now i find i cannt complete zones because some pois are story bound too.

After 23 Failed attempts and maybe 2-3 6 pack later I have finally finished this quest on the first try today with little to no problems. There is one NPC i think that may be an issue or something that some people may have forgotten that could impact them as well. There is this little asura dude at the control panel who is “dead” that you need to revive. It’s not listed in the objectives or on the compass but ya… may be one of those little things that could be impacting a couple of people. Once again thank you Anet developers for your time and support now to finish the story line >:)

Yeah, still bugged for me too. I revive the guy at the beginning, everyone is alive, but once I rescue the researchers in the cave, it tells me to escort them to the south exit, but only trehearne follows me, and nothing happens when we get to the barricaded exit.

This has bugged for me too, twice. (First on Sunday, then today.)

Both times Trahearne died multiple times. One of the big issues is that the Vigil Sylvari who accompanies the player and Trahearne pulls EVERYTHING, making it very difficult to control damage, so Trahearne dies. A lot.

One of the other things is that once you have to start running up the hill to the first camp of researchers, Trahearne and the Vigil Sylvari stand and fight the hoardes of Risen, which keep spawning, and never run up the hill with you. This means they inevitably die and just respawn at the top of the hill when you get to the top to fight off the Risen with the Asura.

The first time the quest bugged for me, only Trahearne followed me. The second time, about 3 other NPCs followed me, some from the second, some from the first research team. It seemed the ones who walked back into the room where the second team were hiding out were bugged, whereas the ones that stood just outside the enclosure followed, but only to attack the Risen Grubs which spawned. The second time, I cleared the entire cave before triggering the rescue.

Both times I submitted a bug report and screenshot in game, so I do hope the information helps you guys. I really want to make it to the end of the game but just doing zone completions in the meantime is getting a bit stale ;_;

I cannot seem to do this mission, the first time I tried all the npc’s bugged and didnt follow me, Now I tried it again and I get an ungodly amount of risen spawning over and over … killing me and all the npcs… then 2 vetrens spawn on top of that while all the researchers (NPC’s) are dead and I cannot kill them or rez the help. This mission has been the most difficult for my Ele, I am a level 80 and trying to finish my lvl 62 personal story and I dont seem to be able to, I dont see the fun in trying to fend off 6 mobs just to get 2 down and 5 more come into the picture without me moving anywhere else on the map. This to me is an unfair advantage and not fun at all.

I just did this quest and got stuck. After saving the second team and clearing the path to the southern exit quest marker, the npcs refuse to follow and I cannot progress. Trahaerne is still alive, as are all the other npcs.

I just copy what I’ve written in one of the other threads:

So, it worked. We did not revive the first researcher, but that was not the point. I think we could figure out what was happening.. after you cleared the whole cave, you go back to the group with the second researches fighting the abomination and THEN you have to get the aggro of this researcher group (or at least the person who owns the instance) and must slowly pull them away from where they are staying, because without any reason they also want to stay and go back there even if they already followed you for a millimeter. You have to pull very slowly (he mostly walked backwards) and often – when they just want to run back – go back a little to get their aggro again (and again and again), but finally that worked.

If you fail to get their aggro after/ while killing the abomination they will not follow you.

The big question is: why do we loose the aggro? why do they want to stay there or return to that place?
can you fix that? so they would follow you more easily and don’t want to run back.

When the quest worked for me, I deliberately skipped reviving that one, since the first time around he ran right out of the instance area while somehow leaving his blue dot stuck at the station. I figured I would go back at the end when I could keep better track of him, but was able to play all the way through without ever reviving him. The other changes on the successful attempt were partnering with someone and making sure there were active enemies in the cave to draw the second team into the fight.

That is important and after you talked to them you need to hold their aggro the whole time while going very slowly (we did it backwards, then you see when they try to run back again and again). You need to react to their attempts to run back, get their aggro again, and so on..

Can we just get a pass for this mission?

I’ve gone through four attempts and it has failed in the same spot every time, the researchers do not follow to the south exit in the cave. It wouldn’t be so bad if mobs gave acceptable xp or the quest wasn’t sokittenlong and full of enemies, but kitten this one is merciless!

Personal story is basically done for me until these later missions get some real bug testing.

As noted above, the fix isn’t due until the 9/24 update (Monday on the west coast.) I also just found another potential issue, which would explain why we couldn’t repro. It appears to be possible to do some of the steps out of order in the cave, so the rescued reasearch team will not follow you. That’ll be fixed in the 10/1 update (the 9/24 update is in testing right now.)

For the record. My mission crashed too, they just wouldn’t follow me. I managed to get through it second time though (Treyhearn died a number of times too, my bad). The key I think is to make sure you do things in the right order. I didn’t get into a fight outside the cave entrance you blow open and as you go into the cave for the 2nd team, stick to the right hand side and don’t get carried away spamming your long distance shots accidently pulling baddies from round the corner before you free the 2nd team. That’s really the only thing I did differently. Good luck. It is a long mission to keep playing, my sympathies to anyone who had to do it more than twice, ha ha.

I have been stuck on this quest for about a week now; I have tried everything to fix it. All the npc’s are alive and I get the cutscene/objective saying to escort the npcs out of the tunnel. None of them follow me and when I reach the end of the tunnel, nothing happens. Please help us Arenanet!

I am also having this problem, its driving me up the wall the amount of silly little things you find wrong that you wouldn’t even notice it is wasn’t for this one big problem with not being able to carry on with the main story which is the aim of the game is it not?… ive also had the same problem as a few others with the “obstructed” and “invulnerable” when there has been nothing around to make this little annoyance happen.

Same issue for me. Only Trahearne will follow me to the barrier. Tried reloading after dying, but to no avail. I even just walked all the way round the ruins to the other side of the barrier, but nothing happened either (Trahearne didn’t follow me either for whatever reason // he might be dead atm)
Also, there’s a blue dot on the map (indicating ‘ally follower’ ), but there’s noone there. It’s at the entrance of the cave.
Rezzed the only guy i could find who needed rezzing (Golem asura dude outside the ruins) but didn’t change a thing. Given up :p
Bit of a shame to have such long missions end like this.

Found a solution after my 5th try. Did 4 solo runs, and last time I went with a mate of mine. The way we did it is Ctrl+T Target Kekt, the Main char of the eskort, and one of us Hugged him at all times, so we would not get out of range. And do it VERY slowly. Rember that after combat, the NPC’s will run back to the postiton they where inn before combat started. Just finished that kitten quest…

Tried to join with a 4 others in a party and would not allow us to enter into it together. First time doing this with a story mission, but we were all on it, so I figured this should have worked. Also had the issue with the explorers not running to the end and instead just kickin it in the cave.
DC just got me the second time. As an elementalist the amount of body running from one shot’s is beginning to amount to a painful experience.

I’m happy to say that this finally worked for me. I didn’t res the asura outside. Trahearne died twice, but got ressed by NPCs. The ‘stuck’ character in the first defence came along this time. The mobs on the slope up to the 2nd party all attacked at once as soon as we entered the cave (not sure that was intended). All NPC party members followed down to the barred gate (again, all mobs seemed to be linked in a big pull).
Now, the ‘new’ part: 2 packs of mobs attacked – intended? Or was the tethering slackened? Was a fairly hard fight, but I’m 80 now so bearable.
So happy this has been fixed (for me) – onwards and upwards!

We haven’t found a way to get this to happen reliably, so it’s been very difficult to track down. We keep making minor improvements to try and fix the issue, but rest assured we’ll keep working on it until the problem appears to be fixed for good.

When I ran into this bug I was floored, because it only exists because you guys shot yourself in the foot by putting that wall there.

Just get rid of the wall. Even if all the NPC’s who are supposed to be helping me aren’t, if I can clear a path to that door with trahearene and me and go through, the mission would still be possible to complete.

You guys need to think of ways to give yourselves as few possible points of failure as you can.

Having a random wall for no reason that must be (apparently?I was bugged on this step too so I’m not sure) destroyed by NPC’s at the very end serves no purpose at all.

As noted above, the primary fix is in the 9/24 update, which isn’t out yet. (Typically, new builds go out around midnight PST.) There’s also some fixes in the 10/1 update to catch an endge case where it’s possible to complete the story objectives out of order.
