This is not acceptable. (Missing voiceover)
I think it’s an issue with the audio getting lost “in the pipes”, I have played through that story and I don’t remember anything missing, it only started happening about two days ago.
I had the same problem with my Human street rat missions. I would stand there and the npc would look like he/she was talking and then I would talk, they would actually talk. I would talk again and then they would go back to mime. There didn’t seems to be a pattern to it, but I have only seen it on my Human street rat missions starting at level 8. It may be a new bug and I will see it on other characters when I get around to them.
Must be a new bug from the latest patch, I haven’t seen it before and I’ve been playing pretty constantly since the head-start access, and I never saw dropped audio in the personal story cutscenes before the last couple of days, so I hope they get it fixed quickly.
There are several threads in the bug section all reporting the same issue. It appears that since the last update on september 14th, random lines of dialogue in cutscenes are missing their voice over and this is happening across story archs and across races. This is by no means a special Sylvari issue.
As people have mentioned I am pretty sure they are aware of it and it has started on the 14th.
Tip: Sometimes clicking the ‘Next’ button unlocks the rest of the dialogue from others. So quickly read the initial text then click Next and you should be good to go.
My human commoner/circus story has been pretty much the same. Half the time, at least in the cut scenes, the actors have subtitles, but no spoken dialogue. They stand there, nod, but no lip movement, and no voice over. I feel a bit cheated, too. I’m not going to delete my character and start over just to get the whole experience, so kitten it.
Yep started to happen after last patch. Every dialog worked before that.
Has any of the dialog changed? That was the cause of it in the beta.

I don’t think that is the reason. At least for me the missing dialog was always the first line in every cutscene and if there were multiple people appearing during the cutscene, it was always their first lines.
Please submit bug reports if you’re encountering dropped audio in cinematic conversations. While we’re aware of a handful of missing VO files, you shouldn’t be having widespread issues like this. Screenshots or quotes from the text help us immensely.
Too late for screenshots, finished the story yesterday
Did 7-8 last quests in a row and it really was always the first line, or the first line of every actor if there were multiple. Can’t provide quotes or screenshots anymore.
I have had exactly the same problem.
I am a Charr Necro. It started happening a day or two ago ever since the quest took me to the level 70+ zones.
The written text shows up but not talking, it tends to happen on the first sentence of every cut scene and then sometimes randomly when a new character starts talking.
I have also encountered this a lot recently. I have been playing through my second character human with a missing sister. I have found that the first line of almost every mission for the last 5 or so missions has missing VO.
I’ll check the names of the missions when I get back from work.
I’ve done the Shield of the Moon thing(not on this account), and found the dialogue was actually fine. I mean I felt some of it was cheesy, but there was no missing VO or anything like that
I did recently did some Asura PS though and encountered about 3 or 4 cases where the first line in a cutscene was missing VO. Just like others said, this could very well be a new bug.
I also encountered more and more missing dialogue in the later chapters of the storyline (mostly starting after getting closer to/into orr territory).
Usually, the first lines/speakers in the cutscenes are missing dialogue. Sometimes, specific characters are hardly ever heard at all.
Sadly, I forgot to take a screenshot and was to tired to write a detailed bug report yesterday – I’ll do that today I think.
Well, I’ve encountered several missing VO’s and I suspect I’ll miss many more. I’ll SS the dialog if that’s what will help. I am playing a Human Ranger. Missing dialog from just prior to defending the Queen onwards to the level just less than the level 39 dialog. Must be a common thread there.
pretty much as Ameepa.6793 said it seems to predominantly be the first line of cinematics. i also noticed a drop in sound effects and ambience during the quest “The source of orr”
While we’re aware of a handful of missing VO files, you shouldn’t be having widespread issues like this.
Well be that as it may BobbyStein, it is now happening in every story line cutscene for me and the wife too. It began happening after the last patch, simple as that.

I have the same experience. I am missing voice in every single story quest since the last build was rolled out. Usually it is one line and the next is spoken again. So a random line can be missing its speech, but so far it did not happen to two lines in a row (not sure if this is any help for debugging). I am currently on the Priory questline around level 50 – 55.
I started a new Sylvari Engineer and Norn Guardian, and if the NPC speaks first his audio dialogue is missing up until my character speaks. Once my character speaks, the voiced audio dialogue returns. I have noticed that the silent NPC’s mouths do not even move during the missing audio phase either.
Although I would usually agree to follow the procedure to report bugs, and have done so a few times in this case, this is just not acceptable.
this weekend I followed my story quest: sylvari, day cycle, white stag. Up to level 20, finding a voiced over cut scene that had no missing dialog was the exception rather than the rule. I submitted bug reports for the first 2-3…. but anything beyond that is ridiculous.
This needs to be looked at globally. I makes the game look poor and severely detracts from the personal story at the early levels which is a particularly critical time.
I sent in a few bug reports about this last night. First time I’ve run into missing VOs.
I had the missing VOs when I wanted to pick up where I left in Norn personal story.
And now the human personal story VO is broken too.
From what I have noticed, sound effects and dialogue seems to go “missing” when too much is happening at once. Now I will put it down to my processor and motherboard which are the only pieces of hardware which I didn’t upgrade brand new specifically for gw2. Sometimes I find that there is no fighting sound effects if I have not been in a battle for a few seconds after being afk for a while, this happens with dialogue going missing after a large battle, it sometimes can take several minutes to “load” the story dialogue and even then it might skip the first line or two. I don’t really have a problem with it but i believe this could be the cause of skipped dialogue, I don’t actually believe that it is missing, it’s just getting lost with so much going on. I did a story dungeon, the manor, and the whole speech at the start lagged so much that i could see the rest of the team fighting enemies but i was still frozen, waiting for the video to load for me; I did a run a day or two later and didn’t have this problem at all, another reason I don’t think dialogue is missing.

VO’s are missing everywhere dude. i dont think youre missing that many files, so it’s probably a bug you have to work out. no matter what personal story (human, sylvari, norn), sentences are missing from NPC’s you talk to in the cinematics

Over here in the bug reports section, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Audio-Problems-with-all-storyline-conversations it appears it is a very wide issue.
I have experienced this too. I thought that it was due to playing with my friend in a party, but everyone seems to be experiencing the same sort of issue. This started showing up for me on Sunday.
Fall Goliath

If that’s the case, then it might not be an issue of missing files but a new bug that was introduced. I’ll notify some folks and find out more.
I recently started playing a new sylvari character as well with the shield of the moon/ “all things have a right to grow” story line. Every single cut scene in every part of my story has had at least one (usually several) missing pieces of voiced dialogue. At first I was submitting bug reports after every single story step with as much info as I could remember about the missing voices… but after a while it just became too much to even keep track of.
Last night I was leveling with the bf who has also started a new character (Asura synergetics/ weather machine) and he was missing just as many voice overs as I was. When I suggested submitting bug reports about it he told me he was tired of bug reporting… heh.
I’ll start submitting reports again but I think there must be some sort of huge bug that’s effecting all the voice overs in every story.
UPDATE: The Audio Team and various members of the Programming team have been investigating the issue since the weekend. A fix is being worked on.
The odd thing is today I did the exact story quest I did in BWE2. It worked fine back then.
It’s the annoying one where my street-wise thief so eagerly turns everything over to the cops. Soooo stupid.
