I’m currently working on my Norn for the first time and I’m finding A LOT (like about half the voiceovers not including my own character’s voiceover) of the NPC voiceovers are just outright missing, the NPCs move their arms and such but their mouths don’t move and there is no voiceover. It will come and go like Eir will say he lines, then the next set are missing, then they come back again, very random.

Here are my Norn’s choices to get more specific on the story:

I’m getting this quite often in the Human story line, specifically when I started doing the Order stuff. Resetting the instance results in the same NPCs failing to speak (they don’t animate their mouths either, but do move their arms).

Tried repairing the client – no luck. Tried changing the sound buffer settings too.

Getting pretty annoying. :/

Ever since the September 14 patch around midnight PDT, I’ve noticed in my personal story quests that many of the cutscenes have broken dialogue where the NPCs won’t speak. The text comes up, but the NPC’s mouth neither moves, nor does sound play. It’s quite the nuisance, especially since Magister Seiran (the sound bugs don’t just occur within the Priory story arches) has one of the best voiceovers in the game.

I have also been having this issue since the recent patch. Some of the scouts also don’t speak all of their lines now.

In both cases, it seems to have a tendency to happen with the earlier parts of the dialog.

Therefore we proceed to write a sig.

Yes, I’m having the same problem with voicelessness in my norn story line. I did not however experience this earlier in my human story line.

I to have been getting this bug since the patch came about. I love listening to the cut-scenes and this just makes me not want to do my class quests till it’s fixed. Please fix this soon

I would say this is most likely caused by a recent patch messing up files or something similar to how the wrong voices thing is, any input on this would be appreciated by a mod or what they are called on here.

Yep, I’m noticing this too. At least one line per conversation is missing, with the character just waggling his/her arms and saying nothing.

I can confirm this. It’s also not like there’s no dialogue, but the character does not speak at all. He/she gestures and all, but the lips are sealed so to speak. I’ve reported it no less than 5 times tonight as well.

Documenting here to make it a bit easier for the devs to find all my bugs I had:
Sylvari Personal Story: Eye of the Sun

  • Trahearne’s first sentence when you arrive at the Ogotl grounds part is strangely silent.
  • After the final battle Trahearne once again did not speak when the twins were reunited.

Sylvari Personal Storyline: A splinter in the Flesh

  • When first meeting Caithe before speaking to the pale tree
  • When speaking to the Avatar of the Tree her opening sentence and third sentence

Human Personal Story: The perils of Friendship

  • Logan Thackeray’s first sentence was affected

Human Personal Story: The Apothecary

  • Countess Anise’s first lines were affected
  • Logan Thackeray’s lines right after Anise’s were also affected.

I know the human part was not bugged before the 14th’s patch.

Hopefully the devs can figure out this weirdness.

i have the same problem with my lvl 14 azura necro and my lvl 45 norn ranger , i had bugged a quest thinking it was only one that was faulty but when playing my necro i seen the same problem appear

I used to have this problem rarely before the patch, but after this patch it’s pretty much constant, at least one line in each cutscene is bugged.

Not much to add, same here. There’s a lot of dialogue not being played and it’s getting a bit annoying. Any fix in the works? Can we at least get the problem acknowledged?

I’ve also noticed cutscene lines failing to play the voice clip while the character gestures, but the mouths don’t move. (Maybe they’re using sign language? . . .) My PCs always get their lines and lip-sync animations, but the NPCs don’t. It seems pretty random.

It always seems to be character specific. For the Human storyline, all of Logan’s audio just disappeared after the recent patch. I wonder what they tried to add?

After I updated to the latest patch I keep getting a strange bug in the cutscenes where sometimes there is no audio. Its like my character speaks with full audio, then the NPC speaks with no audio, even the animation of the mouth moving is not working. It seems random at best. and has happened across different characters, NPC’s and cutscenes. I have tried messing around with the settings (audio quality and latency ect) to no avail. I have not found anyone else experiencing this (or my Googling skill has failed me).

See, I’m not sure if a person’s PC problem with just too many sounds going off and it somehow breaks the audio or what, but I do have the same problem with regular sounds as well, they never lag behind but they just sometimes aren’t there, then they will randomly kick in and be fine.

Guys, try to provide the exact moments maybe?
I remember that durning the dynamic event near the Korakatt’s Hall on Lonar Pass when the Dereg was invading the Inn they had some dialog- it was threatening the inn keeper.

When keeper was speaking all was fine, but the Dereg didnt have any voice. Only text was popping up.

Just noticed this on Codebreaker – Norn quest. At one point it even has the Vigil guy speaking but with the Priory chap’s voice and text :/

This is happening to me too. Has happened in every cutscene so far since the last patch, like the first poster described. I’ve on only played my human character in the late 20’s to early 30’s story, on the Maguuma server.

+1, been looking for ages (figurly speaking) on this issue, noticed it since the 14th patch. Dialog during cutscenes are effected for me too, but also scouts. One in particular ive found it the first NPC scout after entering gendarran fields, the one right next to travelers vale waypoint. i see text yet no sound on dialog.

I have this same prob, we need more ppl to post about this so it gets fixed. Come on guys! The prob. started after the last client update, some char. missing audio in story cutscenes! Sucks because I like story in my games and the audio is the best part in a voiced game. Let’s get this fixed guys.

It’s not specific Seraskus, literally every player and NPC conversing face to face with the stylized background in my story so far has some missing voiceovers, at it’s worst out of 5 lines of dialog from the person my character was talking to only 2 played.

Same here. Its only the first dialogue of every npc in the cutscenes. I can see the text but there is no voice or animations. This problem is everywhere in the game since September 14th. All cutscence are effected. And its not only the cutscenes…npcs all arround the world lost their voices too. I see the text-bubble over their heads but can’t hear them speaking anymore. Same problem with scouts..sometimes they speak and sometimes not.

I’ll add to this one. Same details. Ever since the Sept 14th patch, I’ve noticed this issue. Often the first NPC to speak will have their dialogue cut off in terms of audio, but not always. occasionally this will also happen later in the scene as well with other NPCs if its more than a two sided conversation.

I am also getting this.

Sometimes its at the beginning of a cutscene, other times its randomly throughout the scene. Rather annoying actually as it breaks the flow of the conversation. I don’t mind reading, but I do rather enjoy listening to the cutscenes.

I have also only started noticing this recently. If it is a bug, then I think the latest update must have caused it. I hope so as I thought for a moment that it may be my system (corrupted dialogue audio).

Changing the in-game audio settings seems to make little difference.

I’ve had this happen to me in the Silvari stroy line mission to rescue Tegwen from the Kriat

The happened from the 2nd NPC dialouge and muted the NPC from there.

This has happened to me today in every PS cutscene, one or more lines are mute (including no mouth movement). Hooray for having the text as well or I’d have no clue what was being said. Several of my guildies report the same issue.

Same here, seen multiple threads that discuss this problem and I can’t say I’ve seen any Arenanet employee having posted anything…don’t they play the game?
I know it’s only been a day or so and it’s Saturday, becoming Sunday…but come on.
I don’t wanna sound like a jerk and I understand that there are a lot of ppl working on this great game so I will not do my PS and maybe do WvWvW instead.

Another one here, noticed since the 14th sept patch, random voice overs just don’t occur, never seems to happen to my characters voice, but any NPC talking you could flip a coin to guess whether it’ll have a voice, really seems to be half the sentances that are just voiceless… At the very least, one a dialog

Happens quite a bit. Im more amused by a voice over that IS working but is clearly wrong.

In a Priory mission to build a containment unit Gixx talks about Priory Arcanists (at least thats what the text says) however the voice over guy clearly reads it out as Priory Anarchists. Quite the difference.

Ive noticed the same thing as Raven.7051, npc’s saying the wrong thing compared to the subtitles, but that is a separate issue ive seen since before the 14th. It apears the VA is simply not the same as the subtitles, but wether this is regional or translation related (dont know if there are german or other language version subtitles) i dont know.
