Other mmo’s have had to do this very thing for pets and the reasons why they did it shows in this game severely. They had to put this kind of 90% damage reduction in their game because even the minibosses (elites) would faceroll their pets or other mini helpers for the classes that use them. This kind of thing is troublesome for classes in every role in every aspect of the gameplay. Also, players with enormous AOE damage would just place a slow and then AOE the pets to death even those who were following the character that summoned them would not survive and their usefulness would disappear.

PVE Tpvp Spvp WvW Dungeoneers all suffer from this problem.

When i say mini helpers I mean phantasms, clones, summoned pets, regular pets, spirits, elementals, turrets, elite skills all suffer from taking extreme amounts of damage from AOEs. I’m surprised someone hasn’t caught this yet as an issue.

I would ask that a global 90% damage reduction from AOE attacks be added to the game as a global change to the professions with these types of minihelpers to keep the game honest, you see if your profession isn’t dependant on these temporary buffs to survive then you can just continue facerolling right through without a concern for them. Often the cooldowns for these minihelpers are entirely too long in most professions so instasummoning them back isn’t always an option.

This is NOT however a plea to make pets have a damage resistance to direct attacks.

Please make this change in the interest of fairness.

so… area of effect pokes?

illusions are hardly an issue as they can be resummoned easily(if you see all your illusions in a red circle thats going to kill them; the best thing you can do is hit a shatter)
minions… idk, i used MM for a day, hated it; so cant comment
rangers can keep their pet alive if they pay attention towards it (if its in a red circle; hit f3… and hunters shot if you’re using longbow) i use raven(swiftness helps in reaching players, plus its less obtrusive than… say… a bear; which people notice if its mauling them) and jaguar (invis <3) in wvw and im never without a pet (because if i do mess up; i can just switch them out)

Because it’s not an issue!
If your characters intire strength depends on the survivability of your “mini helper” then perhaps you’ve just chosen an inefficient build.

And 90%?!? O_o. How would you even implement this in the game? It’s not like aoe skills target one enemy and then also hit the ones in close proximity. there are marks, meteor shower, barrage, whirling axes, granades… only to name a few, and all of those allready show in their animation that you take a hit with an axe or an arrow etc.. so why should that be weaker than a standard nr1 attack? by 90%???

Also: every class can do aoe, and a lot of it. Compared to that minion skills are a clear minority… but you are saying that in favor of them all aoe damage should be reduced.. by 90% -.- lol
