Add trade to the game
And fill these forums with people whining about getting scammed?
No thanks.
If you really want to bypass the fee simply trade via mail,

Other games just implemented a 3 step process to avoid all scams.
1- Person A puts up the item to trade in the window – press accept
2- Person B puts in the gold/item they will trade for it – press accept
3- Person A can then cancel the transaction or press accept
Done
The reason I don’t see Anet ever using the trade system is because gold selling would be even easier for those doing so. Anet would have to track all private trades and that would take a lot of resources.

They had that system in GW1 and yet the forums were full of people getting scammed.
Every trade system that consists of direct Player to Player trading WILL have the ability to scam people.

Guild Wars 1 had such a system as proposed by the OP. Aside from the scamming issues already mentioned by other responders, the last thing I want to see is a return to the days of GW1 where text chat was nothing but a wall-o’-text spam of "WTB XYZ ! " or "WTS XYZ ! " The GW2 system is fine as is.
Besides, sellers (savy ones, anyway) are already taking the 15% fee into account when selling items on the trading post. The amount you receive after those fees are subtracted from the sales price is the actual value of the item. If you traded directly with other players, the price you could reasonably expect to sell your item for would be less than its listing price on the trading post because of this. So you really wouldn’t be making any more gold in direct trades than you are currently making on the trading post.
If someone is dumb to the point they get scammed in a game with an auction house, he/she deserves to be scammed. The point is Anet was never able to ban the scammers (as they still are not able to ban botters/exploiters properly).
It is funny to see how some people “think”. Oh, people might get scammed and cry in the forums and I dont wanna see it. Well, dont read the forums then.
But reading the trash some people wrote here and by knowing how lazy Anet is, I will just stick to the auction house.
