I will try my best to keep this short…

Me and some friends who loved Gw1 have/are losing interest in the Gw2.

why? Because despite the beautiful graphics, amazing events, diversity of quests, there is something lacking.

what? Adventure. This sounds silly because there is so much to do and so many great places to see. But let me explain. Adventure isn’t seeing great things and doing stuff no one else has done… Adventure only really happens when something goes wrong. It is an imminent and ever present sense of danger and failing.

I still don’t understand what you mean… Let’s use an example. In Gw1 you enter an instance with a party of 8, if you die you get -10dp, keep dying and you eventually get -60dp and are effectively useless. you have no choice but to return to the nearest town and start all over again. Losing hours of work and in essence failing your quest. In Gw2 you enter an area and start doing a quest or dungeon, if you die your armour breaks, eventually it breaks completely and you are useless.. you wp to a safe spot, fix it, and wp back in. losing about 5 minutes of your time, your progress in the dungeon/quest is unaffected and you continue…. there is no loss except a couple silver.

So how would you fix it?…. I would create a perma-instance area.

you just made that up! Yes I did. What I mean is a new lvl 80 area, which you can’t Wp out of unless dead. There needs to be a huge over arcing dynamic event, so that enemies don’t simply respawn when you kill them, but they come from somewhere.

Sounds interesting I guess. Can you give an example of your idea? Ok. Deep in the bowels of Tyria the Grawl are amassing an army. Somewhere in a mass of twisting caverns, deadly creatures and lost ruins they’re building countless outposts. It is up to you and your fellow adventurers to stop them.

Essentially it needs to work in the same way as WvW but with NPC’s. Each outpost they own spawns Grawl, and the outlying areas become hostile. The players have to capture each outpost and key point to drive the grawl back. Once everything in the area except the main Grawl base is taken no grawl enemies spawn. However there are still events to defend supplies from spiders, or protect an outpost from destroyers etc Every 6 hours the Grawl do a massive push to break out and capture more outposts. including sneak attacks on bases held by players.

I really hope you have read this far. I promise I’m almost done.

This Idea takes a whole bunch of things implemented already in Gw2 and combines them with the difficulty of not being able to respawn as well as a sense of achievement because stuff doesn’t just keep keep spawning. I realize it is very similar to the centaur camps in gendarren fields but the refresh rate of the events and spawn rate of centaurs is too high to feel like something has been achieved.

please comment/criticize and generally have your say on this idea, because it is very important to me, and if something like this isn’t implemented I will undoubtedly lose interest in this game soon, and I really don’t want that to happen.

Nope, not getting tired. A bit frustrated with the new gear grind and precursor costs, but the game is fun.

I read your OP, and frankly:
1) Sounds like a dungeon! We’re already got a bunch of those
2) Not really interested.

I’m getting tired.

It would be better if I wasn’t the only one I know online at any time.

Combat mechanics are getting boring.

Renown Hearts are all the same for me, because you get less loot if you do anything other than “kill dredge/harpies/ogres”.

Gathering won’t make me rich.

Crafting was my favourite part and it’s actually better to buy most crafted stuff than make it yourself.

Loot sucks everywhere, no reward to do anything.

It seems like the game is being made harder and harder in order to keep us from being able to do/get everything too soon. But the tradeoff is that we’re having less fun the harder it is made. Going too far in either direction will make us quit.

To quickly answer your question before the usual whiners and spoiled kids chime in: No, I am not getting tired of GW2. There are some aspects I don’t like as much, and some missing features I wish were implemented, but overall it’s the most enjoyable MMO I have ever played.

This kind of sounds like how I thought Orr was going to be, except I don’t see why it would be instanced. Does each player get their own personal “version” of the instanced area, or is it like a dungeon and it resets from the beginning each time you go in? You mention the Grawl fighting back every 6 hours… just how long do you expect players to stay in there?!

What always makes me tired in a game is what I call the brick wall. Your flowing along nicely getting stuff done feeding the natural human need to accomplish things and then wham you find a place you can not get beyond. So you have a group of friends that are pretty much on call and synchronized to your mind set, or under your mind control spell, or you stop there and go start something else. I really really hate the brick wall. I need to feel some kind of closure to a day of game play, some kind of accomplishment.

Perhaps it should take more than one player doing solo-able stuff to trigger champions? I can understand maybe one or two being up at any given time simply due to zone timing but I often see almost or all of them up at once and crossing over each others paths. I loved the open group thing and still do when it works but the players are just not out there most of the time anymore. Perhaps because the dungeons and getting gear has turned into WoW clone style?

So many things I love in the look and feel of GW2 but this is something I just cant get past. Several promising IPs coming up this year, expect to hear the sound of a bath tub drain when they do unless something significant changes. /sadface

Hey guys thanks for all your replies and input. I suppose I wasn’t overly clear in my description.

It’s really hard to describe what I want from the game because I can’t quite put my finger on it. so let me try again

I would like to see a large instanced area, similar to a dungeon but for a much larger number of players (50-100) you can enter individually or in a party of 5 and it puts you into a random instance with other players. There should only be one waypoint, and a few small scattered safe zones with repair stations.

I would love it to have lots of dynamic events, which are tied together with some form of basic storyline. And the events need to feel like they are coming from somewhere not just happening. If a troll attacks a camp it should come from somewhere.

Some form of randomization would be good to see as well, so it’s not just the same troll and the same town every time.

Whatever the new thing is, they need to give it some form of reward which feels like character progression. Armor and weapons are great but it doesnt feel like you advanced, some new skills perhaps.

I’m not tired of guild wars, it’s a beautiful and remarkably refreshing take on the MMORPG genre, I am however tired of feeling safe even in the ruins of orr, tired of feeling like my character is static and just receiving shiny things for my efforts…

let me know if I’m still talking garbage or whether it makes sense now… thanks again for reading and replyinh

Considering GW2 PvE is largely DE’s that are the same thing just reskinned with difficult to find back stories…

No, I’m not tired of GW2…

The PvE definitely could use improvements for sure though. It all LOOKS AWESOME though.

I am tired

WvW – zerging makes it boring
PvE – for the first time fun, but then it’s boring (same hearts etc…)
Events – fun for the first 10 times – there are 5 kinds of events (i think) – kill, protect and kill, capture and kill, escort, gather

Legendary is not fun, just long boring grind
I feel like there’s nothing more to achieve (I have lvl 80 full exotic, 100% map, max crafting)

Lack of endgame makes me tired

I think GW2 is a great idea converted into game by lazy people.

But there are some parts of the game I’m not content with.
Apart from the profession flaws (which have special topics) I really miss good old Hard Mode.

Tired, yes. I came to these forums tonight in search of direction, I thought maybe I could gain some insight into what I can do next. People who do dungeons remind me of the ecto farmers of UW in gw1. Im not going to jump on the meta cookie cutter bandwagon… 110 locked black lion chests, each time I get one, I groan. The 28th of Jan. can’t get here soon enough, I hope its not a letdown like krakas were.

I’m not tired at all, not even close. I have the exact opposite problem: I’m addicted! I average about 3 hours a day playing – and I have ADD, normally I can only play a game for about 20-60 minutes at a time before I lose interest for the day. But GW2 keeps me in for hours.

I think the only way Anet could have made this game better is if they made the game engine compatible with DX11 tessellation. The game art itself is gorgeous, the best I’ve seen, but as far as the meshes, lighting, anti-aliasing, textures, post-processing goes, I’d just prefer a game released in 2012 for PC wouldn’t look like it was playable on a console. I’d like to give my $350 GPU more of a workout. Other than that I think the many different game mechanics and the sheer size of it will make this game fun and interesting for a long time to come.

No thanks, what you’ve suggested isn’t a fun mechanic, it’s a pain in the kitten i’m by no means a casual gamer, but i don’t want to waste hours of my time only to have it backfire due to a simple mistake or perhaps even a Disconnect or buggy mechanic (Which GW2 has a lot of at the moment with Dynamic events not working as they should be)

If my gear breaks, i want to repair it, and get straight back into the action, i don’t want to spend ages getting back to where i once was, games are played for fun, not to be a chore simulator, if you want an even bigger essence of challenge, don’t do a Dynamic event if there’s more than 1 person there, or partake in an event while wearing nothing and using level 1 weapons..

I played the crap out of GW1 and honestly, that was why I stopped and played something else. True, there was a pretty good high when I completed a GW1 quest that succeeded, especially knowing that there was no safety net to catch a mis-step or run of bad luck, but after a while it was so frustrating that it almost felt like work. I figure out what build I need, what runes and signets to equip, which heros or who in the guild to fill out my party, then run the instance for an hour of white knuckle playing, hoping beyond hope that we do finish it without so many group wipes that we aren’t sitting at 60dp (and then have to re-start all over again), only to finish it with success and then … have to do it all over again in the next mission instance. Fun the first dozen times, but that razor’s edge between success and fail didn’t keep my interest. It irritated me, actually.

Lazy? You are going in with a group. BAH! You have a safety net!

Try things like the original legendary bow in WoW, fighting mobs that if anyone is in your party you auto fail, if anyone damages the boss but you its auto fail, if anyone heals you an auto fail, if anyone buffs you its auto fail, if anyone debuffs the enemy yup another auto fail.
Had to be done in the open world, average length to the fight in which you couldn’t make one mistake and hoped against all hope that no one came by? 20min usually. 3 such fights spread over the world in big farming areas that had people who loved to troll gatherers and people attempting this quest.

THOSE are the kind of fights I call hardcore. If you can have even one other player to help you, than you have a safety net.
Everything else is varying degrees of lazy after dealing with fights like those.

Not in the least. But I don’t have hours on end to play any game. I have 3 lvl 80’s…so 5 more to go for all professions. 4 crafts left to master. Map completion? Not even close…though maybe 50% spread over 9 toons.

I’ll be here for a couple of years at least. And thats only if they don’t add new areas. I like the way the game is progressing.
