+1 for race change
I have done so much for my warrior I don’t want to start over just to be another race

Oh one thing also crossed my mind whilst browsing my mesmer for flaws to justify this change.

The bag slots you need to purchase with gems.
Granted mine only has 2 unlocked since hes not my main.
But im guessing theres people out there with allot more unlocked in need of a race change.

Are they expected to repurchase all these gems?

No, and neither am i.

Even if you wouldn’t, others might and have already done so; as hard as that may seem to you. No offense to those wanting a race change option, but seriously it seems they are looking to avoid playing the game as it was intended, and it is my opinion that anything that permits players to avoid playing just to get to ‘the end’ faster is only detrimental to the game itself. While not implemented in the best possible way and which could be further improved upon in the future, playing from the perspective of each race from beginning to end is part of the replayability of the game. Insta race changes to avoid that content, or to avoid buying new armor or new items per character, whether with in game or real money, only reduces the life of the game overall.

While a race change option might make some happy, I think for myself and I would hope for many others, I would rather see the developers concentrate on adding more engaging storylines for both classes and races that give each new character a means to which to level and progress through the game, and which provide goals for players that are fun and challenging as they progressively work through each race and each class as they level up. That sounds like a lot more fun than buying a consumable and double-clicking it to now have a maxed this or that race. How boring is that? In the time this suggestion has been up, I’ve already leveled 1 and 1/2 characters of different races and it was fun each time because I was working from a different perspective each time.

Ive been through the ordeal of remaking an engi long before the game was introduced to horribly implemented (by that i mean soulbound) ascended gear, world ranks and the like.

Even then replaying the same race ive already done on another alt did nothing to add to my enjoyment of the game. In fact it made me quit the game for a good month because it was tiresome.
If YOU and your likeminded individuals enjoyed this completely uninteresting chore them by all means, dont use the kitten thing when it gets implemented.

You are free to choose to bore yourself to death, im in no way chained to suffer the same fate as you. Neither are mine like minded individuals.
As for people avoiding anything, this is clearly a feature that is desired by the majority of people who already went through the story with allot of multiple alts and have experienced all the things you cling to be entertaining so.

The ones that everyones deluded into believing will use this in a bad way, the ones with a single character and somehow stupid to pay for their character to swap to every race.
Lets not delude ourselves, those people dont exist. If they do they are new to this game and far from having the gold>gems ability to do so nor are experienced enough in the game to make a choice to spend real money on it.
And if somehow all your magic complaint stars align, its again the choice of this Waldo incarnate to do so.

Achivements? Anet arent stupid and have put many restrictions on allot of things in their game throughout its development. They wouldnt hesitate here.

Time better spent by the devs? Can you be more selfish?
Considering your retort is to say its better to put effort into the story, whilst the living stories have been the center of every kitten update while life improvement changes only saw a bare few than that by all means make you sound selfish.

Let us not forget that story is being updated every 2 weeks for a while now, if it was such a monumental feat that requested all their time and effort of everyone at Anet you sure wouldnt get updates of the same every 2 weeks.

Moral of this thread is that people are hindering the idea out of selfish reasons that really have no grounds.
It will effect them in no way, nor are they forced to use the same.
When they are cornered though they go in lengths about how hard it would be for Anet.

That is something for Anet to deduce and you people to stop pointlessly opposing it.

While i respect every point of view, let me contest somehing CattivoUomo:
No one is asking ti avoid the whole content of the game.
We are already all level 80.
In most of the case, we have many soulbound things unlocked on our main character like in my case (a dedicated WvW player):
1200 skill points;
all my WvW ranks ,
all my WvW abilities,
all my craft ability,
all armours+weapons+jewels (ascendent) and in the case you wonder, i have more than 1 tipe of ascendent weapons/jewels,
all the characters bag-slot unlocked,
commander tag,
tons of colors/die and a lot expensive rare ones,
my character name that would require me to buy a change name ticket too,
MAP COMPLETITION that, as dedicated WvW player was a real pain to do,
Rare skins/jems items
In this moment thats my list, but be sure i’d have something else to add.

If you enjoy make every race possible, no one would force you to buy a change race scroll, that eventually would reset our personal story and race armor skins.
The change race scroll would allow a player to simply change RACE, different from an intant level 80 scroll.
It would simply allow us preserve too many aspects of the game that requires too much dedication, like the ones i listed above.
About the race progress, apart from the personal story and the racial armor, the game is just the same.
And the whole things from the beginning, would be insanely boring, cause the content does not change.
And, like all the peoples in this thread, we already stated we would be happy to trade personal story+racial skins for a rafe change.

I 100% support the idea of a gem store race change, Asura tech at its finest.

Perhaps I’m wrong but I don’t see how this option would be so difficult to implement. Simply provide a scroll that once activated, will send the player back to the initial character creation option where they can select the race, gender, etc.

I’m willing to bet that most of us who support a race change option don’t much care about the race-quests or the faction choices. However, if that is an issue, I see there are two quick options:

#1: Select the faction as part of the race change process. Faction quests could be reset.

#2: Reset all race/faction-based quests upon completion of race change.

Either way, it would be nice to see Anet respond with their views as I’ve not seen anything official since this topic came up.

Arena net already gived a clear responce months ago.
I can’t find the thread,but they claimed that this kind of scroll was out of discussion.
They will not do it due to personal story/order/race skin issues.
And if they would ever think about implement this kind of fantastic scroll , this is not even in the list of their priority things to do.
I can agree with this,because the game is in a tragic moment under many aspects (in my eyes).So of course,at the moment,they have other kind of priority.
That told,don’t expect an Arena-Net developer to come here and reapeat again a thing they alredy stated.
Untill they don’t say “ok we will do it” , the answer will remain the same : “no we don’t want to do it”.

I don’t know how much hard would be make a scroll like we are asking.

But…like someone already said,it’s a pain log in and play with a character that does not looks like you want.
Be forced to reroll losing all the progress you achieved in order to enjoy teh game again with another character model.

Someone would easly say : "hey man,just reroll and stop it ".
Hard to do…because every day,with the time i can play i must chose:
1-reroll the character and do all teh things from the beginnings included ascendent jewels…a pain….map exploration another big insostenible pain for me.
2-continue play with a character that naused me to the point i don’t want even to log in,and if i log in continue to make progress with WvW ranks or other things , considering the character have already all the things i want unlocked.

To be crude, its themselves that messed up very badly with their design decisions.

By those i mean soulbound crafting (i have so much money spent in my alt that has all those professions and also artificing into ascended levels), world ranks (560 ranks is nothing you can just replace easily), ascended gear itself (trinkets specifically) bag slots, skill points (got 1500) and many many gear sets. I know i forgot something, im sure of it.

You basically dont have a choice to remake your char without throwing hundreds of gold, hours and many other things down the drain.
Thats basically a lost customer right there, or an unsatified one who will have less hesitation leaving the game since he doesent want to play with their choice.

Its their fault as much as it is ours, and they should band aid this mistake through this change scroll.
So yeah fingers crossed they see reason.
After what i and allot of other people have on their chars (cmon Nirvana that is allot, id be screaming my lings in your shoes) i sure hope they do.

And yeah, gib response Anet or report yu!

Those statements by Anet were a good while ago and much has changed in the game since that time. I would, at this point, they would be willing to make this possible considering how much money they would make in the process.

When people ask for a race change option, they likely don’t care about orders or anything else.

Im just going to try and bump the thread up throughout the week once a day or so.
Hopefully it will attract the eyes of some dev, i mean its the bloody suggestion board.

Why im going to be persistent is cause i need to know how i should continue my GW2 experience, if not stop it indefinitely.

Furthermore, adding more engaging and fun racial and class based stories would be far more centered around giving all players, whether they be veterans, new players or future players, continued reason to play through the content, for which you seem to insult the developers for providing at merely the initial cost of the game, and nothing more.

As you stated, you didn’t find the current content enjoyable to replay through each race to level up. Fine, that is your opinion and while it may be valid to you and many others, there can be just as many that disagree with that and who did enjoy all of the content. My suggestion, however, is more generous in offering ‘playable’ reasons for anyone such as yourself as well as to all others who have enjoyed the current content, to have even more reason to enjoy playing these other races.

Had the developers intended the level ups to not be part of this game, then they would have just made everyone the same max level from the beginning. But they didn’t. Now granted I think they could have done much more to improve upon how they designed the original storylines, but I’m not going to insult them by suggesting they offer a means for players to avoid that content. Instead I like to think I offer ideas that actually could help supplement those storylines with additional story content so as to keep veteran players playing, while encouraging new players to join in. Now my ideas might mean more work for the developers than a insta race change scroll, however I would be more than willing to pay for the next expansion pack which sees some of these ideas come true long before considering any insta- race or class change consumables.

You presented your opinions and i presented mine (which happen to affect my desire to sink more time in the game, hence why im so vocal considering i like the game itself).

Now its up to Anet to shed a light on the thread so we can all go our separate ways.
Whether that be, in my personal case, leaving the game for a while (or indefinitely) or buckling myself up for a very VERY unpleasant trip down the road i already experienced and loathed when i releveled my engi.

I don’t know why those who oppose this idea are all that concerned because if implemented, how would it actually affect any other player? This is a simple request not too much unlike the current gender/name change options. They are essentially additional tools for the player to make the game more enjoyable and provide additional service support options.

There you go again, insulting others who have an opinion on the subject different from your own. You have your reasons for this and they and I have ours, and it seems you could be equally accused of whining with your gimme, gimme attitude as if this is something owed to you. I don’t see how. They designed the game to have multiple races which you can choose from at the start, with multiple character slots and even the ability to obtain additional character slots without even spending any real money if you so chose to do that. To me, they’ve already given us all a decent amount of content without even a subscription cost. While I would like additional things myself, I would never threaten to not play if I don’t get what I want, nor would I outright demand it which you seem to be doing. When I’m done with the game I will just stop playing.

In short, one of the challenges of the game is to level a character of each race and you seem to want to avoid that. Yes, yes you’ve said you’ve already leveled them before and then erased them and started again. Well, maybe you should have really thought about that before you did. You can buy extra character slots with in game gold or real money so you could have used that as an opportunity to carefully choose your characters before taking them all the way to level 80 or whatever level you took them before erasing them. The other challenge is to get them the best armor and weapons you want for them, but you want to avoid that apparently because it seems to be too much effort in your opinion so you would prefer to just avoid doing that again for each character. To me, that translates into “I’m not going to play the game just to get another set of armor, or another legendary, or because I’ve done ‘everything’ as I’ve heard many players claim.” That’s fine, you don’t have to if you really don’t want to, but why should they give you anything that ultimately reduces your play time in the game?

You say that if the developers add a race change that it will be, as I understood it, the driving factor to keep you playing the game. Based on your self-described history in this game, I would be leery of trusting you as you’ve already stated you stopped playing after a month because you felt the content became too tedious for you. With a race change, um, the content is still basically the same as it was before, minus the few living stories that come and go, with some content that remains after. So how would changing races keep you doing this content that you can’t seem to stomach doing with your current race? Anet can make their decision as you’ve stated, and whatever happens either way is what we’ll have to live with. I personally feel that the longevity of the game hinges more on adding content and substance that adds to the world experience rather than a ‘give me this’ because I want it insta-race change.

And you bring no argument for your 2 points outside the big NONO you want to shove down everyone’s throats. How does it ruin lore if you will reroll to your desired class anyway?
Furthermore, who on earth will “reroll” after spending so much time on one character, and most important, MONEY?

A race changer is very much needed in this game. It’s known for a fact ( just look into the countless threads ) that :
- A lot of people want this at all cost, meaning more income for ANET, meaning more content aka better game.
-it makes no sense to spend thousands of hours on a character, lots of IRL cash,craft a legendary or more, and then simply "reroll’.
-it’s none of anyone’s business if someone else wants another race, because, frankly, I don’t want to spend 2k+ more hours on another character, craft my Twilight and ascended kitten again, mindlessly spend more unnecessary gold on ascended items, just because I’m bored with how the gear looks on my charr.

Probably very true, but then I never said I was trying to change your opinion or that of anyone else who wants it. I am merely presenting an opposing opinion for the developers to then decide which is best for the game. That is the point of these forums, after all.

Yes, you could interpret that to say that 64% of the population doesn’t play a human. If you lump norns with humans, 44 % of the population plays a race vastly different from a human. That is close to 50% of the player base.

Or you could be like me, I personally have all races. Therefore, even though I have three humans, I also have a norn, two sylvari, two charr, and one asuran. (yes more than the 8 classes but they have too few classes. I doubled up on one class.) I tried to hold out for a new race on my thief but gave up waiting as its the only class I haven’t leveled to 80. If they had another race that I could have used for thief, that would have been one less human for me.

I couldn’t have said it better myself, please man, here! Have my cookie!! I completely agree with everything that you just said!! It’s a little rough for some of us to re-dedicate all of our time into the game once more just because we like how another race look/is animated differently. I don’t think I’d be able to put up with that… Plus I am in the making of my legendary and I have now seen how the Incenirator looks on Humans compared to Asuras and I do not like it! I’ve got 3/6 Ascended items soulbound to my Human character and all I want to do is just to switch race… I want to keep my class (elementalist) and switch my race…

I’m not saying GW2 is boring or anything but there’s other things in life other than playing GW2 all the time… Come on you guys, this is a win-win situation both for the developers and the not-so-hardcore gamers who cannot play for 12 hours straight… I want this update please make it happen, I don’t care if you let it cost 20 bucks, I will buy it, please… It’s my wish…

we choose human because it represents us, and we don’t know how other races play. in the end, we don’t like human like we thought we would and we want to play other races instead, but we have already invested too much in to the character to even change main.

if anet actually want race diversity in their game, they need to make this happen.

I want to change my elementalist to a bad kitten Asura with the new mohawk hair style. I want to change my guardian into a Norn and buy the braham armor. I would also have to change their names to fit their new race.

There’s pretty much zero chance of this not happening. Anet and the white knights can only hold onto their weak lore justifications for so long.

I’m still not sure how it will affect lore if they just offer a “potion” or something that changes your race or essentially, allows you to recreate your character. Think about it, if a little know Norn Mesmer like me came back to the game tomorrow as a Human, would anyone really even notice?

I would end up being very happy and the GW2 community would go on w/o even the slightest concern or care.

Not to keep killing an already dead horse but I was playing on my alt last night and just remembered how much I would really like to change my Norn over to a Human or Asura. Please Anet, can you make this option available to us?

I’d like to throw my vote for making this feature a reality. Sometimes an idea sounds good when you first make the character, but then, it just doesn’t work. Personally having leveled 4 characters I’m not keen to level another, of the same profession, just so I can choose a different race.

I would love to see race change added as a feature, make it 3000 gems for all i care, What if i have a legendary, fractal backpiece, several sets of gear for wvw, pve, and all i want is to go from human from charr, redoing all of that is such a huge time sink that i cannot afford.

I google every week “race change” in the hope to find some leaked note/datamine about it.
Nothing yet.

I would be very very intrested in have some developer opinion about that…like if they chaged their mind about that or not.
A friend told me today it was possible to instant level an alt with pvp glory , i have a lot i can do it….but again,i already stated i have too many soulbound things that would require too much boring work to get it on an alt.

Any developer passing by here,and feeling in the mood of give us some update about the anet idea about a change race scroll?

I want the option to change the race of my character (such as going from a Charr to a Human or a Norn to a Sylvari etc.)

Have a 1 month “cool-down” on this option (so it would be easier on your end to match up the story arch picks conversions etc.) and you could even charge gems/real $$$ for this feature.

Not to be “that guy” but other MMOs have this feature, and it’s something I think Guild Wars 2 should also include to compete.
