The only difference from how I am playing GW2 right now without any mods is:

  • I don’t have to hold right click all the time
  • The mouse changes to the middle position of the screen while rightclicking, so I don’t have to move it manually to that position before I start a fight. And I know where I will put AOE abilities on the ground even while I am using right click to move.
  • My Aoe Abilities are always casted at the crosshair position
  • fast targeted ground targeting on button release: While I hold the button I see the circle indicator. When I release the button, the spell goes off.

These are only some things, which would improve the combat significantly. I hope they will get addressed, because other competitive games like league of legends already have these features. (e.g. smart cast on button release is a hidden option and everybody plays with it)

Love it, great implementation it seems. Missed this sort of action since when playing Tera , The action feel of gameplay is what Guild Wars 2 is missing the most out of anything.

The mouse toggle to look is a MUST for Anet to implement the community is calling out for it.

Definitely need this! It would make playing a warrior slicing away less awkward since you won’t turn in a random direction due to having a similar mob targeted elsewhere.

I was just coming on to the forum to suggest something similar. Excellent idea.

I was just going to say that when we hold right mouse could we have a crosshair so that we know where fast ground targeting will hit. It wouldn’t even have to move the cursor to the middle to be useful. Though being able to set where about your crosshair is on the screen would be good.

It should be straight forward to implement these options and would add so much to the combat

Even though I did not tried it (was waiting for response from A-net) I’d love to have option for this kind of controls in-game. This would greatly enhance my pve experience (playing necro with staff) and general enjoyment from the game.

Currently the way I’m playing I have right click down almost all the time and placing aoes fill bad and awkward.

This small change in controls proposed by Thypari seems to make gameplay a lot more fluid and natural and this is just offence to anet devs that it is still not implemented in-game.

Oh, only thing, I would add option to toggle it on/off with hotkey. It would be better than “hold key to show mouse” in instances when we want to check AH/inventory/guild. And add option to show mouse automatically if one of such windows appear. Having more options is always good.

Should definitely be an integrated option in GW2.
don’t want to run the risk of banning, which is the only reason I didn’t try this out when I first saw it.
With this as an option, and the FPS view as a option, I think GW2 combat would be pretty much perfect for anyone.

One of the few things Anet didn’t change about the old mmo formula is the dumb “hold right click to play” mechanic, ESPECIALLY since GW2 doesn’t use targeting like other mmos, so to play it like an action-RPG in combat is an excellent idea that should not be swept aside like it did.

I love what this Mod does and i really hope that Anet looks at it and implements it exactly how it is on the mod. If a independent modder can do this 3 weeks after the release of the game i do not know why Anet cannot do the same……

I really love it. It would give the combat that last little push into action oriented that I feel it should have. Otherwise the combat is so glorious and fluid, but having this would be the cherry on top.

I would really love this to be implemented, it really is the one thing that’s missing from the game’s combat system and would make everything so much more intuitive.

Also +1 on the “smart targetting on button release” thing. I turned on smartcast for about 3 fights, and then I went to turn it off again because frankly, it’s useless with it casting on button press.

I have severe carpal tunnel in my left hand, and after trying this mapped to a ps3 controller I have hope that I may be able to play an mmo again without compounding my condition. Anet – please, please, please allow this or better still, integrate it into the game – I’m sure many people with my condition would be very grateful.

This idea sounds great, and it would be a great addition to the game, as long as it is optional, since many people prefer the old control scheme.

One question remains, how would you click your skills if you have this control system on? Maybe a hotkey to toggle mouselook on and off (such as a right mouse button, since you won’t be using it if you have mouselook on).

I was sad to hear that ArenaNet isn’t allowing the use of this program. It’s really a shame that mods/addons such as these which give the player a more enjoyable experience are not allowed. Maybe some day we’ll see a change of heart and allow monitered addon-support, though I’m not holding my breath. There are both pros and cons to both sides.

Anyways, I hope that ArenaNet takes this idea and utilizes it in a built-in optional mechanic. The combat looked very fun and different to how traditional MMO’s are played. Having it as a preference choice, much like how other scripts such as click-to-move in games like WoW, makes it that much more enjoyable to play by gamers of all tastes.

Please take this into consideration, Dev Team. We’re all pulling for this one.

I’ve always loved this idea. Considering how fluid the combat system is it fells a bit lacking having to constantly hold the right mouse button down. Not to mention that if your holding the right button you can’t then left click to activate any ability as it moves you forward, a major pain for me as an Elimentalist and anyone else that uses a weapon with a lot of ground targets. Although if there was a crosshair when you were holding it I probably would use quick cast.

Hope the Devs add this as i’ve seen this mentiond in every BWE forum and alwayes hoped i’d see it in the next patch. So heres hoping.

I definitely would like this, not just because it feels so fluid and nice to use but because constantly holding down right click in massive fights makes me literally lose the position of my mouse. Since I need to hold down to right click 60%~ of the time, when I let go, I need to spin my mouse around in circles in order to find out where it is. This eliminates that issue while also making combat much more fun.

This is a great idea. Without something like this I am left with key-board turning. This levels the playing field for those who are unable to right-click turn and multi-task during combat. Lower dexterity requirements and allowing a deeper focus on skill tactics. Just my 2-cents, but I would love to see something like this implemented native in the game engine.

I’ve liked the action based control scheme in other games such as Dragon’s Nest, and more PSO2, and I think it would be a great addition to the current game as an option. I’ve been impressed with the action based combat so far, but I’ve found it hard to actually engage in mobility based combat. I generally just stand in front of the enemy, and hit skill buttons. This configuration would really be a welcome change.

I truly believe that mods give games an enormous amount of life and character. It allows for players to play how they want to (given there are restrictions and limitations). It opens up a lot of options that weren’t available originally. I think the benefits of having a modding community outweighs the cons by tenfold. It not only grants people access to a variety of playstyles, it lets to players put a bit of their own tastes and personality into the game they love.

Now, I understand that ArenaNet’s position on addons have been made clear many times over out of fear of losing control of how they want to have Guild Wars 2 played, but it doesn’t change the fact that modifications like the one proposed in this thread give a whole new life to the game.

Simply put, modders add almost an infinite amount of life to a game. There must be a better solution than a prohibition of all mods. These days (in my uneducated opinion), I think that games such as Guild Wars 2 suffers more without a level of mod support than those with.

Okay, I’m done ranting for the day. =P

This is actually not entirely correct. If you shoot at a mob of enemies, you will always only hit the front row. All projectiles can be blocked (this is actually important in pvp, as you can often save your teammates by simply blocking the path).

However, to get back on topic: yes, the combat mode implementation should definitely become an option for combat. While it is theoretically slightly less powerful, it is so much more convenient.

They should either allow the combat mode mod or provide their own implementation (as an option of course).

The mod is toggled by pressing Tab by default, and you can remap the button to any key you want. It’s freely toggle-able, especially if you fiddle with the script to make the transition between ‘combat mode’ and ‘unmodded mode’ seamless.

My sister has severe arthritis in her wrists but wants to play this game. Come on Arenanet, is she really going to be breaking the rules if I recommend this mod to her in order to reduce permanent deterioration of her joints?

I think that it would be a good idea to make this kind of option available in a future update. I believe that such a change would be received well if it was an option available to everyone if they wanted it.

I agree with ArenaNet that 3rd party mods should not be allowed and that any potential updates to the UI be release officially and universally to keep a level playing field.

So please consider releasing this kind of UI update
