The blue commander icons are great for coordinating people’s movements, but can become confusing once 2-4 commanders are on the same field, because they’re all identical to each other. Given these new event cycles and seeing them in action more in PvE, here are two changes that I heartily recommend:
1. Create a set of secondary icons, it doesn’t really matter what they are, but having them in an assortment of colors would be a good idea. there should be 4 at minimum, but 10 or so would be plenty. These icons would appear next to the Commander icon, kind of like this: Vx, and each commander on the field would get a different one. They would be randomly assigned, first come first serve, and as commanders leave the field entirely the unused icons would get reassigned after maybe five minutes, which should work out fine (this would prevent them getting reassigned from a simple drop).
This would allow you to pick a commander and follow him from event to event, even if he’s WPing around, which would allow more consistent groups to form, rather than having twenty people following one, and twenty another, and then they both WP to different areas and thirty show up for one and ten for the other.
2. When a Commander uses a WP, you have to wait for him to respawn there before knowing where he’s going, meaning unless he calls it out in advance you end up 15-30 seconds behind him. Instead, make it as that as soon as a Commander begins his WP process, the icon is moved to that location, so you can teleport immediately after him.

Another problem with this, especially with the invasions, is that after calling a waypoint a few times, you get suppressed for excessive messaging. This content basically is all about quickly jumping from one event to the next, yet commanders are hindered in their ability to inform the other players by the awful chat suppression.
Also, waypoints should still work if a commander icon in on top of it. Clicking the waypoint should have priority over clicking the commander tag.

Excellent idea!
Remember that joining a commander squad will hide all other commander icons on the map (right click the commander on the map and select “Join Squad”), allowing you to identify that commander through exclusion.
If you do join a commander remember to type something in “/d” (squad chat) so that the commander knows not to flag off (which I do while I am checking the map for the next event I need to help with).
The only one I really want is if a commander is in the same guild you are (and both are representing the same guild), then his commander tag should be in gold.
I agree with this completely!
I’ve mentioned this idea to my friends, they even agreed – would help alot in WvW & PvE events
