DPS meters are notorious for being misused by people who have no clue. It would be nice to have a Master of Damage to test builds against, however.

I would love to have a way to see how my gear/weapon/points affect my damage. I understand the fear that a damage meter will turn the game into a contest for the best build or a reason to kick people from parties, but that Master of Damage would be a very useful tool for creating an effective build for the way that I want to play. Just because I made it through a dungeon without dying a million times doesn’t necessarily mean that my build is successful. I want to be sure that I’m contributing to the group that I am in and right now there is no way for me to really know this.
Would higher healing on my elementalist really have saved that ranger?
Are my mesmer shatters optimal?
Who knows…

Just want to add my voice to those saying -

No way. No how. No. No. No.

To damage meters.

We all know how they can be useful and how they could be used – but we also know how they WOULD BE used if they were there, and we dont need that in this game.

One thing I would like to see, however, is a death log in PVE similar to the one we see in sPvP. Knowing what killed me would be an extremely useful tool.

I’d also like to say that damage meters, in my opinion, should not be welcome in this game. Not only does it just invite competition between players and blame on individuals for a dungeon run gone awry (I’m sure I don’t need to give examples of other MMO’s having this mentality) but it doesn’t even make sense with the play style that Guild wars 2 has designed.
The whole point in the combat system for this game is to create a balanced character that may or may not be more geared to damage or survival. That is why everyone has their own healing skills and there are no specific tanks or healers. This means that when doing a dungeon there is more or less equal pressure on doing enough damage, keeping yourself alive and keeping other team members alive on everyone in the party. Therefore I don’t really understand where a damage meter would fit in anyway.

LFM fractal lvl 10 must have over 4k dps or kicked !

oo and about agro. when doing plinx chain event and the champ spawns at the end, that guy refuses to let go of agro on 1 person.

example, i use my thief and play P/P glass cannon,
i know for a fact its only a matter of time before he locks onto me and wont leave me alone, even if he kills me and a player resses me he suddonly turns around and comes right for me even if i didnt shoot him after ressing.
even stealthing has no affect on that nasty ugly thingy.

so some wierd agro system to stop certain builds / gear from standing still and nukeing, or he really really hates asura thiefs !

Some mini bosses and storyline bosses I’ve encountered would focus on my pet exclusively, making them extremely easy prey. Ranger is probably the easiest class to play because of this.

I would like a personal dps meter for myself only, just because I’d like to improve on my play style, but it isn’t needed. You can easily tell if a group has good, or bad dps on your first pull. Threat would be helpful just so you know when you are about to get randomly destroyed, also like on kholer, when he charges up that scorpion-wire attack sometimes its extremely hard to see; however if he was charging that up and your threat went to max, you’d know its time to dodge.

ANet says they don’t want us to stare at the ui, they want it all to be visual … Yet the range finder is on the ui, pretty funny stuff in my opinion. Honestly they could make threat meter visual, but I doubt they could do so with a personal dps meter.

You are using 21 of 100 infractions ermm, PMs.

No. Aggro meters and meterable aggro systems are responsible for the boring tank and spank combat found in games that they’re useful in. Heck, the original intention of taunt-based aggro systems was reactive, not proactive. Passive taunts were always meant to hold aggro, and active taunts were always meant to fix it when it broke.

What aggro meters did was essentially exploit foreknowledge of a mechanic that was intentionally hidden in order to make combat slightly more reactive and interesting in those trinity systems. It also made combat easier, and for this reason alone the concept caught on and eventually became a crutch, and then an accepted part of the gameplay that had to be designed around.

DPS meters i don’t see an issue with for people that want them, but to be completely honest I don’t think they’re a really useful tool in a game with so much intermittent and interrupted DPS. Two characters in GW2 could have equal theoretical DPS, but the guy highest on the chart could simply end up there because he managed to never draw aggro while the better player was outputting good damage while using positioning, evasion, and cooldowns to actively defend himself while doing so.

As someone who focuses on primarily CC and support, I’d not want this. You will get the people who, although you’re useful by interrupting attacks, immobilizing, reviving, booning, will kick you.

A personal one for theroy-crafting? I wouldn’t mind. But not one to be used as a measure, which then turns into a competition.

Yeah, I’d personally like it if they used the aura they put on targeted enemies as a range finder:

Blue – Out of Range
Red – In Range

That way you can tell without looking at the UI.

Time is a river.
The door is ajar.

LFM fractal lvl 10 must have over 4k dps or kicked !

LFM lvl 80 expl dungeon must have 3k + DPS or kicked !

LFM dungeon must have 3k agro or kicked !

LFM dungeon must have full exotics and 4k + DPS or kicked

where have we heard this before hmmmmm

this is why anet have banned addons, it destroys the game and makes it “best ppl only” and ruins it for ppl who just want to do the encounter with out worring about dps this dps that.

look what happend to WoW, first it was gear score now its Ilvl (built into character panal) and ofc a dps requirement for a raid / dungeon thats far over the top.

yes i would like a dmg meter to see how my glass cannon thief does, but to be honnest id rather not have it, as all i have to do is look at my screen and see all the lovely red numbers on my screen to know im pounding the boss to dust.

It’s fine. That is the elitist system. It is an organized way to get the MOST SUCCESSFUL runs in games. Most MMO’s and this concept of being another MMO is truely an overrated opinion that people feel it is downgrading the game… they don’t realize that adding certain things from other MMO’s might actually “upgrade” the game. Alot of the posts i have read and discussed in previous elements regarding the SERIOUS and the CASUAL players have always resulted in being divided into those perspectives: Serious/Casual. Depending on how many serious or casual players there are in the game, they can choose to govern the features of a certain game. But again, if it should still be an available option. It can EASILY be moderated to prevent spamming on party chats by filter settings. I have already posted several pros over their cons in my previous post if you would like to read them.

I think a DPS meter would be fun competition, even if it’s just in a minimal fashion. Plus it’ll help refine output builds. Not saying they’re necessary, but I’d certainly like and take advantage of it.

Seriously We need to be ABLE TO INSPECT PEOPLE TO SEE WHAT MOFO IS MAGIC FIND LEECHER AND Slows DOWN THe dungeon runs by 9000000%

Forget dps meters just add Inspect Nothing else i really wanna se how many of those a holes exist

But a good Power/Precision/MF player slows down a dungeon run less than most Power/Vitality/Toughness that have little damage no matter how hard they try.
