Do we need new classes?
More new weapon choices, open weapon options to all classes within logic (thieves with greatswords or hammer, wut?), and create different weapon attacks for each weapon that allow us to choose.
i.e. Auto Attack stays the same but 2-5 have 1 or 2 other alternate attacks that we can select that are locked in once picked, just like traits.

Would be great if you could combine classes, but I think that won’t happen…
If there’s going to be a third heavy armour class let it be something dark and use scythes and two-handed axes.
Well seeing as we have the Warrior and Guardian (which is basically a Paladin), we could use something like a Dark Knight. Instead of boons and protection for allies, they do more conditions and have similar skills to the Necromancer.
I would really go for something like that, since I already have a Warrior and Guardian and would like a third heavy armour class character but I don’t want to do the same crap over again.
Haha. I just noticed this thread got revived after over 2 months.
Well it’s a sign to Anet I guess xD
Theres no need to combine classes, when you can simply get everything what you want from those 8 basic classes through SPECIALIZATION into various Sub Classes.
We need no childish wow clone Dark/Death Knight as a 3rd soldier class.
What GW2 needs is Necromancers being able to specialize themself into Witchers and by doing this, you could improve their gameplay by specializing the necromancer more into melee combat, unlockign with that specialization new weapon skilsl through beign able to use then also weapons like swords and greatswords with the Necromancer, just like Geralt the Witcher uses a sword and a greatsword and is like the type of dark themed gothic melee combatant that uses curses/hexes also.
This together with the necromancer typical tough of gameplay from GW2 could become a real unique sub class for Necromancers that would add new features to the overall gameplay of the game to give this game some real character progression finally.
By letting player also change sub classes at will, the system could work also similar to GW1’s dual class system, just only with the important difference, that there would be no cross class mixing, like in GW1, you’d just change between your specializations.
As a Necromancer you would be able then for example to change your specialization between being an Occultist, a Witcher or a Visionary …
As Occultist the Necromancer would be a specialist in Death Magic & Soul Reapering.
They would improve their abilities in summoning all kinds of undeads, thus they would then be able to summon not only undead skeletals/zombies/ghouls, but they would then be also able like GW1 ritualists to summon spectres, souls, ghosts/will o’ wisps and use skills from ashes of the dead. -the ultimate final fusion between Necro and Ritualist as it should have been from the begin on, because both classes are occultists using undeads.
Special new feature of occultists could be to summon also DEMONS, stuff like fleshreavers, you know, this!:

That way would hit Anet 2 birds with 1 stone.
They’d massively improve the game’s character progression and they would stop the whining after ritualists for GW2, as they would be integrated through the sub class system within the necromancer. It would be a simple solution, that wouldn’t even require of Anet to implement a whole new seperate class, as that would be alot harder for them to implement, than just adding a sub class to the Necromancer, which gives them the missing ritualist aspects from GW1 – ash gameplay and summonable ghosts that are no nature spirits, but rather undead beings from called lingering souls that have yet no peace and are still bonded somehow to the world of the living.
As Witcher as said a Necromancer would become a much better melee fighter receivign access to new melee weapons and they become specialists in CURSES with that they debuff enemies and weaken them so that they don’t need to wear any kind of heavy armors to fulfull the role of the “dark/death knight”…
As a Visionary a Necromancer would change its gameplay by specializing into an other magic category among the occultism – Astrology & Fortunetelling, using the powers of calling the souls to see into the future and using the powers of Astral and Spectral Magic together to receive Visions from the Past and the Future. Using tarot Cards to play with the fates of their victims.
Also something which should have been ritualists in GW1 more or less, at least their armor design and the lore around Cantha made them look like more Visionaries, than anythign else, gameplay wise they ended up sadly as Necromancer cloned Minion Spammers. However, even in GW1 the ritualist enemies in Cantha got called Fortunetellers at Lvl 15 around …
This sub class would be something for those players, which wish simply to change the gameplaycompletely to something new, that requires Necromancers just as the key basic class to get to play as that kind of unique class, that nearly nowhere exists in any current MMO
However, in the end are Class Mixes and Sub Classes the same..
If you progress now with your character to learn a new Sub Class and end up as a Witcher, or if you just mix Necromancer together with Warrior and name the result for you personally in the end a Witcher is up to everybody self.
However, I personally think Sub Classes are a much nicer solution as gameplay feature, because it gives you a better feelign for Character progression, as if you would run instead simply only like in GW1 to a NPC to talk with and and up then in a matter of seconds with a secondary class that you mixed your primary class with, that has in the end then just no real class term, other then X/Y like in GW1, what I absolutely disliked.
We have enough issues with the classes we already have. I for one would very much like to see the Trinity get toppled for good. And when was the last time Thief was useful for ANYTHING at all?
We definitely need more classes with an expansion same story gets boring on every character
I like the idea of combining elements from different classes. For example combine a warrior and thief together to create a heavy armor class that can use stealth skills. Doing something like this would make the classes more interesting as well as increase the survivability of classes like ele in the higher level areas.

Mmhm, that’s something with a lot of potential. But wouldn’t said ‘combos’ be overpowered, for example if you picked shadowstep elements from thief and combine it with a heavy damage warrior spec like GS – Axe/Axe or maybe Rifle’s Killshot?
You make a fair point sirendor but a guy can dream right. Anyway i imagine the creators would keep this in mind and find a way to limit the damage out put of such a class by making a player choose between power and speed.
