Dungeon Check list, Goodbye speedruns

+1 to this. Anything to make not speedrunning more appealing gets a +1 in my book. So much potential content lost behind excessive waves of trash mobs and bad loot.

They really just need to buff the other dungeons/paths.
The research has been done… By they players.
You wouldn’t have “everyone” running CoF P1 like they do if it wasn’t so profitable.
What’s the problem with speedruns? I don’t do dungeons, so please enlighten me what harm they pose to players, the community, the market, and the nature of the game.
Err, that sounds sarcastic, but it’s not.
The devs don’t care about WvW so I’m gonna kill players in PvE!
Here’s whats gonna happen though… the people are still gonna skip over it and you will end up being the odd man out asking to do the Non-essential content that just happens to be outta the way.
Kind of like Bonus Missions in GW1? You got my vote.
For this to work though properly though, I’d say:
- dungeon maps would need to be more open plan and less linear.
- No hand-holding; no markers showing where the objective is ect, otherwise it’s counter-productive to the whole getting rid of speed runs (people would just run from marker to marker).
- Some objectives could have an element of randomness to them to further stop the speed-running (otherwise walkthroughs would be written). For example, Priory in AC want to find ancient relics. These relics would be randomly placed around the dungeon.
- Collect x item, and return them to the guy with them.
- Escort y to a certain point.
- Find the hidden room.
- Defeat z sideboss
- Vanquish the dungeon
- Destroy / don’t destroy x (this could be tied into the boss fight as well. For example, not destroying it would make the boss stronger, give additional mechanics ect, in return, more goodies i.e. The Rilohn Refuge mission from Nightfall)
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
This would be a nice idea buttt it wouldn’t really kill speed runs. People would just work out whether or not it was efficient to do each event, and if so, find the fastest way to do it. Some would be too easy, some would be too long, and for the ones in between… well, that’s just gonna cause arguments. People already disagree about whether to run past or kill the trash in the Solid Ocean fractal – imagine this many times over for every dungeon!
If you don’t want to do speed runs, I’m sure it’s not too hard to form such a group. I don’t see why the game should give you an incentive to do it, though…
(if you are still reading)
on your 2nd line? xD someone’s pessimistic!
They could add checkpoints along the way in the dungeons (maybe that only trigger after a certain event is done) and if these aren’t checked off along the way in your “dungeon progress” bar, you don’t get the reward at the end because the dungeon doesn’t recognise that you’ve finished?
I speed run dungeons a lot. AC and COF. Why do care so much if people speed runs? There is already DR implemented and you still want more punishment for the speed runners/farmers. Do they affect you in anyway and unable to play the game? They already killed CS and look at that place, it is a ghost town. Leave the speed runners alone. Go do your own thing.
@Def Pinoy I thing they don’t want to punish those who are speed runners but to award these who are not. To make that “non-speed running” more popular than it is.
Seriuosly how many groups from “PUG’s” don’t want to speedrun all the dungeon?

I don’t care if people speed-run dungeons, but for myself side-quests (maybe even randomised side quests) would be awesome.
I love exploring, and I find the set-in-stone, linear dungeon paths little rewarding in that aspect.

Well, look what just happened, too.
Dungeon Complete Bonus Rewards
In order to make playing all of our unique dungeons more rewarding, we’ll give you a bonus gold reward for each dungeon path you complete each day. Coins will be removed from the current bosses (replaced by the champion reward box listed above) to coincide with this bonus payout for completing each path. Completion rewards will be guaranteed, and we’ll vary the amount of gold earned based on difficulty and length of each dungeon path.
To encourage players to participate in a wider array of dungeon content, we’ve designed the system so if you complete the same dungeon path twice in one day, you’ll receive the normal reward for completion, but won’t receive the bonus gold reward again during that day.

I personally don’t care if people do speed runs. Let them have it their way.
How can you not like speed runs? The community is SO accepting!

casual speedrun?
isn’t that an oximoron?

Nah, just means it’s people who know how to do it speedy, but are not going to sperg out when something goes wrong like the “NON EXPERIENCED WILL BE KICKED” guy.

To clarify, I’m not advocating doing away with speed runs altogether, and yes people will always find a way to skip and do it fast as possible. I’m just saying it would be awesome to get good incentives to not speed run, so that even casual runners feel like their time was well spent, and the speed runners might actually consider slowing down some to do this side content no occasion. It won’t stop the speed-trolls, but it would make a more fun experience for the rest of us.

Know what dungeons and paths I’ve done, without having to track outside of the game, would be nice.
This would be great for explorer AP’s, too…
