Guild Wars 2

I have made a few posts/comments before about how much we need more official merch on the GW2 site but this latest gift to the media sites has officially pushed me over the edge.

I WANT THAT WATCH!!!!!

I have tried just being nice but it has gotten myself and the rest of the merch desiring community no where. Many of us went a bit crazy with the election stuff and we demanded that we be given access to the campaign items and I am grateful for the img files that we were able to use to make our own posters. (thank you a lot actually they will look amazing when they get framed on my wall.)

But I can’t just go have a watch printed out and I need that beautiful creation, along with a “few” other items, such as:
Hoodies
Shirts (crew and v-neck)
Posters
Stickers (anywhere use and bumper)
Art Books
Coffee Mugs (ceramic and tumblers)
Pint Glasses (for those wonderful guild mission evenings)
And of course the rest of Destiny’s Edge in full detail and ratio as Rytlock to complete the set.

If you are like me and want more shineys then please leave a comment/rant/love note, or whatever you think will compel the real life RNG gods, or wake the mystic Dijin.

hello, i just thought of something that would sell well in the gem store.. i wanted to share my idea with you guys.
so yea mini’s add a mini to the gem store that is a “mini me” like when you summon it, it looks like the person who used it like if they are in town clothes it looks like the person in town clothes if they are in spvp gear or pve gear it looks like that gear on the person. i think that would be cute and would be a popular item to sell. even if you add weapon look too so like if the person has a twilight or dawn the mini me would have a mini twilight or dawn would be so cute. lol anyways imo i would return and buy one or three

would be cheaper than having anet use one to make ur character then sell it to u. after all how else would they have each character SOO customized to each player, especially with so many options to customize your character.

that would be a good idea, but i wuld prefer to still be able to customize the rather than use just a default background

like have 4 poses for my mes, then do a wierd mosaic, or have a pose for ea/ of my characters that i mosaic out so they looked like they were standing next to ea other in the same scene

Hmm, yes, pay extra to have a professionally done quality item… or get the equipment to do it myself with no real understanding of the process and make kitteny items I wouldn’t want… I’ll pay the extra money.

lol I have thought about the 3D printer idea before actually but I have to agree that I came to the same conclusion. Learning it well enough to get it to look good isn’t really something I care to do. I can just “farm” cash from my job and buy it from them.

Honestly my biggest confusion is the lack of clothing and accessories. I get that personalized stuff would be harder to come up with but hoodies and shirts? Not to mention that they could even do some limited runs of living story inspired stuff for some of the bigger events such as halloween/wintersday/dragon bash. They could do a limited run that would fit the timing of the events plus players love to have exclusive stuff.

Really? I find it wonderful that the GW2 marketing department comes up with stuff to send to blogs each month at all. I find it all sorts of amazing if it is a $65 pocketwatch instead of “just” some printed posters. Come on, now.

Not sure it’d be legal to charge your friends for the construction of GW2 models.

Yes pretty sure it would be illegal in most countries. Else by now someone surely would’ve started a bussiness in this, if it truly was that easily done, and possible to just sell to people.

Also agree with some of the upper points that state that the profit margin might simply be too small for arenanet, given their limited resources (= non infinite staff) and the amount of work that crawls into development of guild wars 2 already AND how much money they make of gemsales already which requires no “non-virtual” produtcs, no shipping hassle etc it makes sense from a bussiness perspective that they’d prefer to focus on adding more to the gemstore rather then setting up a secondary physical store.

So I can definitely understand why arenanet/ncsoft hasnt made it yet, HOWEVER given the scale of their income and the playerbase probably declining over years to come instead of further increasing, it seems like now would be a good time to hire 20-50 people to work on this store who would most likely be able to be paid straight off of non-virtual merchandise and still have a profit left, however probably not worth the hassle extra work for them, because lets say they make 50k the first month, and 30K the second, It might very well decline, after all, how much t shirts does one person need, therefor in the beginning it will give quite a decent profit but will possibly be less worthwhile as time goes on.

So I can definitely see why this does not exist, but I would love it if it did and I would definitely spend some serious money if it did, that being said I also spent alot on gems now for all the cool stuff they have in the gemstore, so probably not that much of a gain for them.

I mean that I want it to actually be from A-Net not just a matching item that I purchased on my own. It would be cool to get one and customize it, but with special edition stuff it feels better to, in my opinion, to say “yeah i got that limited from A-net” adds an air of exclusivity i guess. Just personal preference really.

I don’t think it would be any different than having a painting commissioned of your character by some of the community artists. It is simply a different art medium. Now if I start slapping the GW2 logo on some shirts and selling it I might get a lawsuit or two.

I can agree with the staffing point and even the hassle point. I do believe however that A-net is getting to a point where these things should be seriously considered.

I’m normally pretty reserved on the interwebs about things so if I want it bad enough I know there are others who feel the same way.

Um, yes. I spent ten dollars this month for 800 gems to get the salvage slot machine. That is $10 of pure profit with zero overhead and the is the least I could pay for gems without using gold. In order to make actual physical things they need to pay for design, materials, manufacturing, and shipping. Then they have to sell the thing for a cost you’d be willing to pay. How much of that cost do you really think is left after the fact. From what I understand of the process, we’re usually talking a dollar, kind of profit. It’s not worth it when they can make ten times that for literally nothing.

Hey and so do I! Because of the playerbase possibly reaching a height right around now, a year from now gw2 might be kinda an old game already, if its not considered that by many people who dont play now already.
But I also believe in the immense power of large corporations like anet/ncsoft.
Meaning, If you and I who (at least I) dont have any real experience working in a logistics department of a major worldwide MMO, feel like this should be considered, there are surely a ton of people at arenanet who feel the same way, AND have the skills and experience to run the logistics on it and decide if profit wise, for the company, it is best to implement it or not.

So what I mean to say is, given the millions of revenue and expenses guild wars 2 has, im sure there are more capable people then us who make this end decision, and also a ton of people who work on the logistics of it, and perhaps somewhat sad for us, depending on how they perceive all the data they have acces too (and we dont again) they will weigh the benefits and come to a more informed decision if this “should” exist or not. Again to make sense from a company’s perspective. Hence what I’m really saying is, I feel like its time to have this, others feel so too. But if it will ever exist or not, is not up to goodwill or us asking about it in a few threads, its about the logistics which Anet will use to make an informed decision.

So surely they have been/are/will contemplate this as well, of that im sure. But we’ll only get it, if it seems worthwhile, and that im not so sure off, however if it seems worthwhile, fear not, it will happen

Fully agree with this post. While it looks worthwhile to have this since there is an obvious demand, It probably isnt because they would have to hire employees to not work on virtual items who make them money for something virtual in the gem store, for a lower profit.

And all those points you make here are very good ones (shipping/design/1$ per sale profit) why if they want to hire new people for it, it would be smarter to really hire more people for more stuff in the gem store then for non virtual items. Its just the logistics of it all. I hope im wrong I really do, but if they never release anything like that, I wont fault em or say they are silly for not capitalising on this demand, because it does make sense.

I agree……to a point. While the cost of making an in game item is lower it is not cost free unless every part of the process that gets that item from the drawing board to the game is free. There is no such thing as 100% profit when you are creating something to sell, somewhere down the line something/someone is causing you a production cost. However things like this can be rolled into bigger packages, i.e. story updates, so that the cost is brought to a minimum.

I was going to argue the profit margins on the other however I must concede to your statements. I did some research and it would be only a $1-$2 profit if they sold these items at a reasonable price.

While that is rather disheartening I do hope that eventually we will get some official merch. I would love to sport some GW2 stuff.

Completely agree, it would be awesome. Moreover, if it were up to ANet I’m fairly confident they would be open to it. The problem is that it would come down to NCSoft and I have no confidence in them to do something like this.
