I think... I think I need open world PvP...
I’m not disputing that PvE is more popular than PvP. I enjoy PvP but spend 80% of my time doing PvE. I suspect that is true for most of the PvP population with various degrees of time distribution.
My issue is choice. I’m lobbying for a game mode that would please a “substantial” part of the population, while having absolutely no effect on the remaining that didn’t wish to partake on that game mode.
You are saying: I don’t like it, so none should play it.Which one of us is being unreasonable?
Look OWPVP is one thing, and to say I wouldn’t grief or troll players is one thing, but you can’t speak for the droves of players that do, do it. I played on Illidian when I played wow and the Gangking was bad there, what you describe is something that had been in place in wow when vanilla hit. When OWPVP wasn’t all about trolling and more about the enjoyment of 200 man battles for 3 days to two weeks ( southshore and Terren Mill ) Although those times have come and gone, we have the mentality that players just want to troll others because it is fun.
I’m lobbying for a game mode that would please a “substantial” part of the population,
Please do not say this, you do not speak for the substantial part of the players, in fact you don’t even know the substantial part of the population to even make this statement correct. Say what is true, you and some of the people on this thread and maybe your friends would love to see this suggestion and see it put in so you and your friends and the others on the thread can enjoy yourselves.
So not to destroy hope and not that I am speaking from an authorized point for Arena Net, BUT. In many interviews with the Development team, it has been repeatedly stated that PvP and PvE should always remain separate, and the only time that the two mix is in Wv3. That way someone playing PvE, never has to ever see PvP in any sort to play the game. Those in PvP never have to ever play PvE to play the game.
Also to your TP theory.
It was never the population of Guild Wars that was asking for it that made them do it. Again in Developer interviews per game launch when talking about the features that would be added to Guild Wars 2.
There will be a trading post, this will help players sell and buy even in the open world. This will also be a focus point to stabilizing the economy, and allow us to control the cost of items. So not to have the mis-happening of Guild Wars with people starting to use Ecto’s and Marks from dungeons as currency. This is also being put in to allow players all over the world to be able to share, as the TP will be world wide. So no longer will you have servers starving for one material when others are starving for them. This is done in hopes people don’t have to worry about what server they are on and can focus more on playing the game. – Forbes
In closing I say if you like open world Player versus player than that is great, but at this time and no where in the near future of the game is that going to happen. If you truly love Guild Wars 2, then play ti for the reasons you love it, and find your OWPVP in a game that promotes it or has it. I am not a supporter of it, I just look back at EvEOnline and World of Warcraft to see that where an OWPVP system can be done and players can not use it to troll, that is generally not the case. Sadly it is not the system it is the players, so you want to blame people blame the players that use it to troll.
That might be the case but I suppose I did format the original post like a suggestion. Lawyered.
That is awesome long distance internet high five
Open world PVP worked so well for Aion (NCSOFT) that they implemented a server (Channels) where no one could be attacked just so they could level because of all the griefing.
I PvE in WvW all the time, it is fun to kill level 80 monsters who aren’t undead… And yes, at any time I realize I can be attacked. But also, WvW isn’t meant really for 1v1, so introducing that into the PvE environment would agitate people so very bad as some have no chance to fight back as balance goes right now. On top of that no one wants to be zerged in Orr, or Queensdale, or Metrica…
People who want to pvp others in small groups do sPvP.
People who want to wage war on large groups or potshot stragglers, or PvE with a little more challenge and danger do WvW.
People who want to PvE, do PvE in the open world. Where they do no have to fear being attacked by people who mostly want to grief those who level. There is a place for everything, as I said Aion had to implement change because of how bad an idea this was. And it took them years to do so. The second this happens I’m off to FFXIV or ESO.

I know it’s not going to happen. I realize that. I’m just not convinced from personal experience that EVERYONE that plays on a PvP server is a sadist, as we are mostly portrayed in these threads.
If some people are rotten they will be rotten no matter what game mode they play.
How many threads complaining about people getting kicked out of dungeons before they can get their reward? Do we remove dungeons on account of that?
@Kaimick: Thank you for your very reasonable post, it’s not often that you see that in these forums, but people where indeed demanding a Auction House. Everyone was fed up with WTS / WTB and subsequent scams in every major city. And having to resort to 3rd party websites like we had to if you didn’t want to play the WTS/WTB game was ridiculous.

Oh I am not saying that people weren’t, although that was not the deciding factor of putting it in. Even though I am not a developer, I am confident enough to say I am sure the player base had nothing to do with the decision to put it in. Since they already had plans for it before a player could get their hands on the beta.
