Whilst i fully understand the complications involved with changing a characters race, i do have a simpler suggestion and would be amazed if it had not yet been thought of.

Basically instead of changing a characters race, offer the ability to transfer XP from an existing character, say a Mesmer for example, onto a new Mesmer of a different race. This would eliminate complications regarding story as the new character would essentially be an entirely new one., not just a race change

The idea being something along the lines of ‘soul transfer’ or something of the like, as opposed to a race change.

Was just about to come to the forums to enquire about the possibility of a race change any time in the future, so I’ll stick to this thread

I have an elementalist that I have completely gone off playing as I have fallen in love with Charr over Asura. I realise it is easy enough to roll a new toon (provided you have the space) but I have previously invested a lot of time in this Asura in terms of WvW, gear, karma, skillpoints etc and would gladly pay for a service that allowed me to convert him to a new race.

Heck I’d even pay for that and a name change so it was something more suitably Charr.

I realise there are difficulties with regards to personal story and cultural gear, but I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if being able to swap race meant I lost a personal storyline achievement and any cultural gear I was wearing became unuseable.

Not sure it is ever anything they will implement but fingers crossed

And how much race-specific story and items does WoW have?

I’m often amazed at the number of people that despise the idea that other people may choose to have an option within a video CARTOON GAME that in no way impacts them.

The number of ways that that a race change option could be implemented are endless. And among those many-many options, it would include the newly race-changed toon having to either redo his entire story line from scratch (with no rewards) or accepting a completed default story-line NOT of his choice. Same goes with his Order choice.

The world will not come to an end if a race-change option is added; because if done correctly, it will satisfy both ANET (more money) and a large number of the player base (more options).

Anet have already said no. Is this so difficult for you people to understand?

Well hey guy, is it okay for us to make a suggestion to Anet on the suggestion thread? Or do we need somebody’s approval first?

And can we suggest it without being told that if we don’t like the way it is, delete/reroll or go somewhere else?

Believe it or not, game companies often change their minds about things. Especially when there is money to be had, and a player base that will be happy with the changes.

Oh, and by the way, these forums already have moderators monitoring them, I’m sure they don’t need any unsolicited help.

No, apparently it’s perfectly fine to spam the same subject over and over again; never bothering to use the search function to read all those old threads that keep getting locked, and still managing to never come up with something new than “it’s such an easy change to implement”.

OP, on another thread I wrote:

I’m amazed that Anet has not implemented a Race change option already. They could charge quite a high price for it, and even make it a cash only option. Trust me, they would make an absolute killing in profits from this.

As to all of the so-called problems people have raised, like personal stories and such; sorry but those are very easy to deal with. Simply require a toon to be an 80 with every single skill and trait unlocked, and with a completed personal storyline in order to use the “race-change token”. Once used, the race-change token erases all of your previous personal story and simply replaces it with a default (and unalterable) completed storyline for the race that you have chosen.

Also, there is no “rule” that race changes have to be from tokens, or instant. You could keep the requirements i stated above, and Anet could give themselves a 2-week window to implement the requested race-change. I have played many an MMO that had just such a sytem. For example, In LoTRO, when you request (and pay for) a name change, it takes a few days before you actually get the name change option sent to your toon.

C’mon Anet, don’t you guys want more money? —- God knows I would pay through the nose for a race change, and I’m sure I’m not alone in this.

PS: Anet, do you have any idea how many “fan-boys” you would create with a purchasable race-change option; I for one would worship at the alter of GW2 !

Even if you were level 80 and already did your story line, it would have to totally delete all your personal story in you hero menu and replace it with a fake one. One that you didn’t do. And in total, that just doesn’t make sense. Not only does it affect your story but it also affects your world, because certain NPC’s react/say things depending on the race you are. I think it is more complicated than it is worth. Now with the kits that changed your appearance, that was easy, because it didn’t mess with the game story wise, or even affect NPC dialogue. That being said, It would be pretty cool to see such a thing implemented. I also think another reason they don’t want to alter story too much is Guild Wars itself is heavily story based (One of the many reasons I love it). Anyways, thanks for letting me voice my opinion. If Anet can implement it, that’s pretty cool. If not, I won’t mind.

As I said, there are many options. Yet another option would be a simple total delete of your storyline with your having to do it all over again (with no rewards). Because as it stands now, a player can level to 80 without completing his storyline or choosing an Order.

if you had read my post you would see that what i had suggested was not actually a race change… just an idea based on the premis of it…

my suggestion inst that a character is changed to a different race, rather that the XP is transferred to a new character- thus solving any personal story issues.

Guys… I got it. To do the race change thing, it won’t delete your whole personal story. Instead, there can be an added panel wherever you are in your story line saying how you went under surgery or something of the sort to become a certain race. Then, you can continue on with your story as the race you were before since you’re still the same person just a different race.
