If People want to Farm give them Farms
I like to farm. it makes me happy killing monsters and getting loots from them.
I do too. It’s very fun and relaxing when you get rewarded for your time. You enjoy the scenery help clear out enemies while farming, and get some great loot in the process unless something’s wrong and the rewards don’t drop.
I’ve played about 11 mmo’s in my time not including a beta I’m waiting on. In my time this has never been an issue in any other game title F2P or not.
People like to farm, but the whole aspect of farming people like to do is get rewarded. It’s grinding that people hate, grinding is forcing people to do the same activity over and over for currency or loot for progression. Grinding is what people seeking legendaries are doing because there is no other activity that rewards legendaries or the mats that are needed for legendaries especially with this system of limited loot acquisition. That’s the difference.
I asked this in another thread and will ask it here too, for all the know it alls and others.
Why is it JUST CoF p1 that ANET allows to be farmed and not ALL dungeons/paths? Anyone have insight/thoughts on this?Cause they can’t just nerf the rewards in the dungeon like they do in open world. They are probably working on redesigning the instance like they did to other dungeons and that takes more work.
This is right. CoF is probably going to get the AC treatment, maybe a bit harder since it’s a higher level dungeon.
Sorry makes absolutely no sense, they changed the other dungeons but not this one. What is harder/different about this one dungeon/path that makes it harder than the others to change? NEXT

You sound like you have some issues…
You are the only one with issues.
Why criticize someone for playing the way they want?
There is nothing wrong with them playing and getting the enjoyment out of the game in the form that they wish.
Go troll somewhere else.
I’m not saying anything about playing the way he wants, I was commenting on wanting the things he wants. Pretty big difference.
I happen to farm myself a lot as well…
I’ve been there, done that, ran the dungeons, do the WvW on a very regular basis but I love seeing the gold and mats in my bank increase. Wealth brings freedom, freedom to try out different builds on different alts without always struggling get all the stuff needed or waiting weeks to try out a new idea. Builds are 1 of the very few things left to explore and after all the time I put into this game I find it a drag to always be struggling for those mats.
What you said first was that all games were the same to you and that increasing wealth was your end, similar to how jobs are all the same and that…
It was probably a misunderstanding, I can appreciate your point of view as you put it now, with wealth as the means to an end and not the end by itself, in just another game that is like all the others.
Still don’t get how jobs can be all the same tho…

So I guess working as say a dancer that is also his own choreographer or a film director or a scientist working on inspiring cutting edge research are the same thing as working behind a desk for too many hours a day on something that doesn’t inspire you whatsoever?
Of course if your choice is between two desks and two jobs that dont inspire you whatsoever, I can understand…
If you are going to waste 8 hours of your day on something, it better fill your kittening soul with joy…

Because CoF farming didn’t really pick up until the AC changes?
CoF will get it’s changes shortly, and whatever faceroll run people come up with to take it’s place will be dealt with accordingly until everything is sorted. Savvy?
It’s not going to be a simple nerf they’ll do if that’s what you’re expecting.

I think this is exactly what ArenaNet did (successfully, imo) with the Instigator (which includes a nice chest reward) and crazed wave events in Southsun. Those events are easily farmable and don’t seem to suffer unecessarily from DR – especially when you throw in the escort chain that connects the two areas they take place and the packs of skelk/karka/wind riders (and passiflora nodes) across the island.
I think the design (which I believe was specifically developed – at least partially – with farmers in mind) bodes well for people who enjoy farming in these games.

These are time limited events not ongoing.

Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

I reckon once the SSC events are over, instigator will also be gone (i.e. the refugees are now satisfied with SSC and no longer… well… instigates a riot)
What I find amusing is that everyone just goes along with the idea that there should even be a need to farm, instead of mechanics being implemented to naturally have players acquire what they need through normal game play.
People farm because Anet wants people to farm. Keeps people in game.
HUH! Are you serious? Just the opposite is true.
Really? What would you like to put forth to support your statement? There have been no statements from anet that say they are against normal farming (quite the opposite), there are mechanics in game that support the idea of farming, there is a complete stat for armor that supports farming. The only thing negative instituted in game is DR and from the statements directly from anet devs it’s in there to directly fight bots, not normal farmers.
Then why has EVERY farming spot been nerfed to little and even NO DROPS in all farmed areas(except CoF that is) and please don’t say because of botters that plain ludicrous. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Anti-farm_code and http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/ArenaNet:Developer_updates/20070420
I haven’t heard of a single farming spot being closed. I have seen and heard them fix bugs that people were using to farm unlimited spawns. There is nothing to support anyone saying they are getting zero drops. I’m sure they get plenty of drops, just not exactly what they want.
Thanks for your two links to Guild Wars 1, which have absolutely nothing to do with this game. Plus I looked at both of those a while back during another topic. If you follow the link sources to where the developers actually comment, they blatantly say they have nothing against farmers, and they want people to be able to farm.
Edit: Farming is not standing in one place with a macro, as far as I’m concerned that needs to be removed from the game.
No farming spots were closed only nerfed in the way of drops have been dialed way back or cut off, have you checked out the Pent/Shelter area in the past 2-3 weeks as compared to lets say 2 months ago? If so you can’t miss the FACT that known mobs that used to drop loot no longer do.
The two links are indeed from GW and if done there(albeit minamally there) it has very evidently been carried over to GW2 with a vengeance and I blame that part on NCsoft not ANET. There was a statement made by ANET that farming was to be discouraged.
I agree the standing in one place with actions using macros is just wrong, this I don’t do when farming, I am all over the world map in efforts to not be hit by the DR.
How little you know. DR has been a part of Guild Wars since 3 months after release. I’ve seen your type of posts 7 years ago in GW1 threads about DR. Nothing new to see here.
If you thought you could farm in an a.net game, you were clearly wrong. Go play any other NCsoft game. In lineage and aion you can farm to your heart’s content. In Guild Wars, you can’t. That’s a good thing imho.
Get a grip. You’ve got no idea what you’re talking about. Vayne may have forgotten a lot about GW1, but my memory for that game is almost encyclopedic.

Also if there aren’t a significant amount of players that like loot farming, why are games like Diablo 1, 2 and 3, Borderlands 1 and 2, Torchlight 1 and 2 Titan Quest, Skyrim and a plethora of others so popular and they are VERY popular games..
In Diablo 1, 2, and 3, Torchlight 1 and 2, farming was not happening the way you describe it. You weren’t staying on the same spot, killing the same respawning mobs over and over and over. If you wanted to do that, you had to restart the game and fight your way to the same mobs.
The encounters there were designed to throw groups of mobs at you, to kill and loot, then move on to the next group of mobs. Which is exactly as GW2 works, with the difference that you need to move to the next event.

Furthermore, the diablo series was known for farming. Torchlight is a diablo clone so I imagine that to be a hardcore farm game too. Guild Wars is known for its LACK of farming. That’s what the entire game series has been about for over 7 years. People who don’t know that have only themselves to blame. It’s not like this information wasn’t available before launch …

Of course I remember the stuff Anet did for anti-farm, but then there were things you could farm too…even solo farm. 55 monks farming orr tokens or vatteir farming come to mind off hand. Every year those stupid earth insignias would go up in price and even sell out around Christmas time.
But yes, Anet has always had some anti-farming policies, and rightly so in my opinion. But you could always farm feathers. lol

Just out of interest .. has anyone ever run into DR while farming in Frostgorge Sound ? At least i never noticed that i got more or less drops on crafting materials even when farming there for over 6 hours.
Are you killing the same mobs over and over, or moving around in the zone?
More or less the same mobs over and over .. the area i run around is in the end not bigger as when you do the tunnel-events in Orr.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

CoF farming is hers since beginning, only it got more efficient. And trust me, groups that can do CoF efficient can faceroll new AC too.
There is farms everywhere…
I agree the standing in one place with actions using macros is just wrong, this I don’t do when farming, I am all over the world map in efforts to not be hit by the DR.How little you know.
That’s a good thing imho.Get a grip. You’ve got no idea what you’re talking about. Vayne may have forgotten a lot about GW1, but my memory for that game is almost encyclopedic.
I never said anything about there being no DR in Guild Wars and I was a farming fool with 13 mules all maxed in gold as well as my bank all from farming. Man, what are you on? Show me ONE POST you mentioned. You haven’t got a clue of who I am. Encyclopedic GW memory, yeah right, step slowly away from whatever your indulging in because it is scrambling your brain. Have a great day.
And yet, just playing the game usually turned out to be more effective than farming. Funny isn’t it.
Actually I don’t farm because it scrambles my brain. I can’t do it for any longer than it takes to master the build (10 seconds) It’s boring, not fun and silly. That’s not why I play games. I’d rather do engaging content, which, by definition, farming is not.
Yeah if it scramble your brain, it doesn’t scramble mine. People who paid to play this game isn’t just you. If you think that playing normally is effective than farming, why do i see people still farming for t6 mats and money at cof p1? if you rather do engaging content, then do it. Some people just wanna take their time to farm. it’s their time, not yours!

Now, while i agree with you about farming (i don’t do it almost at all), though i completely understand and support people who ask for a chance to farm in a profitable way… Just out of curiosity i must ask you:
What kind of “engaging content” are you talking about? Autoattacking a dragon/behemoth/fire ele/golem/insert world event of your choice while standing in a corner?

If you haven’t found any engaging content in this game, why do you play it?
There are many dynamic event chains that I really like. Not surprising out of 1500 of them. They’re not all, or even mostly meta events. I love the event chain that runs through Straits of Devastation for example. I love some of the little, funny quests. I find some jumping puzzles engaging. I’ve found some (but not that many) personal story instances engaging. I’ve also found zone exploration with my map markers turned off engaging. There are some mini-dungeons I’ve found engaging. Forsaken Halls was a lot of fun.
I don’t find meta events that everyone does engaging, because too many people are doing them, but there’s plenty of other stuff in the game I quite like.

I was asking Marnick, but still, i think by reading the forum everyone already knows that you love everything about the game, anyway, the reason why i’m still playing is because i’ve friends in game and i like to spend time with them, and after a day at work, it’s ok to just turn the brain off and do something while talking with them.
Now, what i don’t get is, why you find doing jumping puzzles, events and such, fun, and it’s ok and everyone must accept that and agreed, and if somebody like to spend one hour killing skelks for mats, is not ok?
I think if ANet sould ever take out the events or JPs you like, you’d be upset, right? (c’mon, you can admit it, even a tiny little bit upset is acceptable), so why they can’t complain when the things they like to do is taken off or made less enjoiable?
Some people like Jumping puzzles.
Some people like dungeons.
Some people like questing.
Some people like fractals.
Some people like WvW.
Some people like sPvP.
Some people like dancing in Lion’s Arch
Some people like farming.
Some people like doing a mix of some or all of the above.
Now in all those things there is one and only one that ANET is dead-set against and that they have gone out of their way to control or limit. The DR code was put into place to prevent it. MoBs that used to drop loot no longer do again to prevent it. Things like rich ori nodes were removed from the game to prevent it. Rewards for boss chests were changed to per day/per account versus per day/per character to prevent it. The only place that has escaped so far is CoF1.
So perhaps DR should also be applied to JPs. Do more then 1 per day and suffer diminishing returns. Same with dungeons or fractals.
Better yet to make things fair across the board perhaps they should limit the number of gems you can buy over a given period of time. What is good for the goose should be good for the gander, right?
Love the way this got buried in the suggestions sub-forum. Good way to stop any responses to this. -LOL
