Lately I’ve been testing out a few other games, including one relatively underground D3 style game which included microtransactions where players were literally throwing money at the company behind it – even though it was certainly not pay to win.

Now I’m guilty of not putting money into the anet shop.
Why not? Because none of it interests me. I was fairly interested in halloween skins, but I refused (along with many others) to partake in a gambling style acquisition method. Many people probably would have donated money for something nice. I suspect the same is true of the current super awesome 8bit skins.

So my question to anyone reading this is;
What would you pay for?

There is a world of customisation out there which could be messed around with by anet’s artists, all of which could be disabled in wvw/pvp if necessary from a balance point of view. I’m not sure why they haven’t leapt all over this opportunity.

Personally I would pay for things such as: (I’m just throwing ideas out here, for customisation)
Unique looks for phantasms
New lines players speak when they receive buffs
Earthshaker animation that looks more explosive
Elementalist phoenix replaced with a dragon
Cleansing wave could look more like a tsunami
Deathly swarm replaces locusts with bats
Green/purple/blue etc fire

Weapon stain kits – one weapon per use, not too expensive, and does not change particle effects, just gives the weapon a stain effect from dyes the player has already unlocked. The player can change the color as many times as they want to but can only use the stain on one weapon per kit.

I’d love to be able to buy perm versions of the dances from that event box.

Content that is related to “guild” and “war”, and nothing to do with jumping puzzles.

I bought a game called Guild Wars and I wonder why the people around me are off jumping in puzzles.

My posts are facts as I know them, or my own opinion, and do not represent any guild.

Because we enjoy them. If you don’t, you’re well within your rights to not participate.

In GW2, the only thing I’ve sprung for is an extra character slot, and even that was a back-and-forth decision over a couple of days, because I felt like not having enough slots in the base [B2P] game to try all the classes was a sour move by ArenaNet.

Generally, I find the gem store to be overpriced and uninteresting, which is more or less on par with the in-game store from the original Guild Wars. In order for me to spend additional money in Guild Wars 2, things need to be more diverse and significantly cheaper.

Snow White’s suggestion of better hair and clothes is fine. But then I look at the underwhelming existing selection of hair, clothes and skins, and I’m left to wonder why I should pay more — not really for something extra, but merely to compensate for what I perceive as a deficiency in the base game. I’m not sure I would do that unless the new content was substantial.

New weapon/armor skins — maybe if they’re cheap and, like the HoM items, can be reacquired and applied indefinitely.

I dunno. I’ve never found much value in microtransactions. Even the big sale over the last month failed to earn my business, and I was watching closely for character slots.

If the Gem Shop armor skins worked like the HoM skins (i.e. unlimited application), I’d have bought them long ago. But for a one-use skin, I just can’t justify it.

A dye-like skin wardrobe on where I could store (read unlock) my skins (acquired via in-game loot) so I could apply the same skin on different items at the same time. There are actual suggestions for this here:

Other than that, I really like the current items. It has some consumables and boosts I think are fair enough to be sold with real money. Slot expansion. And, finally, gold.
