I believe this will stop leeching from mesmer in jumping puzzles, simply by putting a couple of “checkpoints.” There is one JP that uses kind of the mechanic, The Secret Garden, unless you gather 4 “things” you cant open the chest. I believe putting at least one key for the chest in the middle of jumping puzzle, that resets daily with the chest, will solve this problem as everyone would have to get the key first to open the chest, and the key is somewhere before the end of puzzle so you rather finish it yourself than run out to use the portal.

Yeah i mean i will just portal my friends to the key location. then portal them to the end. Look this does not need fixed. Give it a rest already. Why do you even care?

Their is NOTHING wrong with the current system, if a Mesmer wants to be kind and help those that are struggling then i see nothing wrong in that.

Seeing tons of players working together to help others complete a JP is one of the strongest aspects of the game. Don’t fix what aint broken.

To me it looks more like one person completing a jumping puzzle (without any “working together” by “tons of other players”)… and then porting others directly to the reward. If that’s cool for you then that’s fine, but then there’s no reason to distort what’s going on.

Aside from the fact that ANet (and a large section of the player base) seems happy with the way it is implemented right now, so it won’t change, I also think the OPs suggestion wouldn’t work at all.

I have suggested before to implement a number of invisible checkpoints per jumping puzzle. Only if a character passes all the checkpoints (withouth knowing where exactly they are) they would get the achievement at the end. So people would still be able to port other people up to the end – and portees would still get the chest, just not the achievement. This, in my eyes, would be a fair solution. But I know by now that I’m the only one. :P

How does a mesmer offering portals effect your play at all? If you want to use one, take it, if you want to do it the other way, do it. I really don’t understand this set of threads lately where people are busybodying how others play.

Besides, you don’t know the reason every single person uses portals. The guildmate who has a tiny screen on a very old MacBook has a darn good reason for appreciating the help.

Yeah, I don’t get this. Someone who joins a dungeon group, then doesn’t actually fight anything and gets the chests and reward at the end is leeching. They were expected to pull their weight and didn’t.

When a mesmer puts down a portal at the end of the puzzle and another where players can reach it without doing the puzzle he is doing a service for those other players. It has no value to the mesmer, he already finished the puzzle. Therefore those players are being given a gift, and are not expected to do anything for it. So, in what way is this leeching?

The new T7 mats will be obtainable by jumping puzzles as well, when it is implemented people will get the credit without even doing the work. I am a mesmer myself and I have ported tons of people to jumping puzzle, but the last time i did no one even said Thank You. The rudeness of people is killing me, I believe when someone does something say Thank you at least. So now they will do whole puzzle as a punishment for being kittens

Mesmers already play for you in JPs

You know the obvious answer? It isn’t to disable portals. We need to get rid of Mesmers, because apparently the only thing Mesmers do all day every day is sit at the end of Jumping Puzzles help people up.

That must be why I never got into Mesmer, all the JPs on my server were taken and I just didn’t feel like I had a purpose.

Actually… I can’t remember the last time I even saw a Mesmer in a Jumping Puzzle, let alone one at the end of one portaling… Isn’t that strange considering how remarkably prevalent they apparently are in them?

Sadly. No one told me to play berzerker ever. It is a personal choice and you can do the same content with also doing some effort without being berzerker (there are people who accept you too)

Now I know I haven’t given you time to answer this in your own thread on the subject, but please, enlighten us. What skins are you guaranteed to get every time you open a chest at the end of a JP. What skins are there at all? I’ve never gotten one, that’s for sure.

Wait what? I haven’t made any thread. If you’re responding to someone you really need to quote them cause I can’t follow which side of this debate you’re even on. If you do mean me, I’m not frustrated at all. I’m at work and don’t have anything better to do so I’m speaking out about the things I believe in.

This is true. The rewards other then for Living Story puzzles are pretty pathetic and not even worth it anyway so i dont see it really being that much of a problem, if it ALL gave level 80 precursers and Exotics then maybe but currently no.

I can’t understand why people are still trying to convince others that using a portal to help others skip content is somehow wrong. ANet gets to decide what is right and what is wrong. End of story. The people using portal to help others are playing the game how it was designed to be played. ANet designed this game to encourage “Players Helping Players”, it’s even the title to a forum subgroup.

If you don’t like how portal is used, that’s fine, no one can make you like it. But trying to make others feel like they are doing something wrong is silly. You don’t get to decide that.

Even then it doesn’t matter. There’s this thing called “teamwork” – something these gate-locking elitists are trying to suppress.

These elitists as far as I can tell simply want the chance to amass all the T7 mats for themselves so they can parade their new gear around Lion’s Arch and expect the rest of us plebs to bow down to them in some sort of admiration. Sorry, this is not that type of game.

For some people, I get the impression that dictating builds and now, even classes is how they enjoy the game!

I don’t like the idea that much.
When the jumping puzzle in Gendaran was finally open to the “crowd” it was crowded? Messy? Chaotic? Let’s say all of those words are correct if you put several very infront of them.
Some players were not a help, they were a handicap.
-Giving you speedbufs when you jump
-Casting all the big AOE fields when there are 10-20 players for each enemy. Had to change graphic settings to avoid dia show.
-Standing in places where your camera was forced into a fixed position – with my asuran mesmer there was no jumping puzzle… only players as far as I saw.

I ported all these “obstacles” anyway with some of my guild+alliance members. I’m fine with that. And it is nice to have a “safety line” in case someone falls down in a JP (e.g. WvW, eternal). Even if the one falling is you (e.g. “Troll’s end”, the one jump where you can hit your head if your timing is not good which causes you to restart the complete jumping part)

IMHO there is nothing to fix and by adding “interstations” the “problem” will not be fixed (more mesmers…. or more time… or the players will have to jump the easy parts on their own and only the hard parts will be ported… ……)
