Kodan why not you them in the game?
Because they are a lessor-race just like the Skritt
Sub-races that have no players are a dependency of story lines, it means there is more fluidity in progression, rather than having more interaction to worry about.
If there was going to be more playable races it would most likely be something like The Largos
I play when I can and help who I can
There’s no reason why the Kodan couldn’t become playable. I honestly hope they do.
+1 to this
The more races the better, but honestly, I’d rather see the Tengu as a playable race, first.
Actually there are good reasons the Kodan wouldn’t become playable – namely the lack of customisation. They are polar bears, their fur is ALWAYS white. You can’t give them markings because in Kodan culture markings are used for special people within their people… Then there’s the fact that they are quite similar to the Norn and would trivialise the Norn ability to transform into a Bear…

- Lack of visual customization options
- Remodelling of dozens of existing armor sets
- Their starting area is level 70+
- Very specific lore / behaviour / communication / naming, sure to be ruined completely by the playerbase on the first day
At least with Tengu, I can see some individual style choices in character creation for the face and feather (hair) styles and colors, although remodelling the existing armor sets would be even more of a nightmare.
Diversity in Kodan character creation? Nope.
Honestly, I love the Kodan, but a) ANet is unlikely to make such deep changes to the game (including the world map, adding a level 2 – 70 path of maps that is accessible to low level Kodan characters the same as it works for the other races) and b) I’d hate to see this majestic culture “ruined” by characters with “funny” names that don’t bother talking or acting like Kodan.

Actually Pixel remodelling wouldn’t be that difficult considering Tengu use the same model as Charr and have less bodily protrusions. Their feathers are placed out of the way so you’re unlikely to have any clipping issues and the only thing that would present an issue is their tail.
I would really like the Largos as a playable race. Imagine the customization with their wings/fins

I’m not sure there would be any. From what we’ve seen they all have the same patterning on their wings, perhaps it’s akin to customisation on a human foot – most peoples feet look close enough that it would be really weird to let players change the colour and length of toes etc. xD
Eventually both Tengu and Kodan become playable, is my guess.

Not really body wise they are basically differently proportioned Charr, They have the same posture, it’s just the thickness of the limbs and torso are thinner. It’d be about the same as human to sylvari or norn (who all use the same armor meshes just stretched to different proportions). If Tengu are made playable they’ll use end up with Charr armor meshes.
Physically and culturally, Kodan cannot be customized very well.
(Fur is always white, markings are tied to lore/culture)
They would be unpopular if ArenaNet were to stand by their creation’s solidified principles.
The ones most likely to be playable are the Tengu and Largos, as we know the least about them while they still maintain an equal footing to the other sentient races.
Both also have homes which are viable starting areas.
Tengu’s Dominion of Winds for a later patch and the Largos’ “Houses” somewhere in the sea, likely for the Leviathan patch.
Lv80s: Guard, Thief, Necro. Renewed my Altaholic’s card on the HoT Hype-Train. Choo choo~
Not to mention that the Kodan use exactly the same ‘skeleton’ as the Norn.

You can’t really compare feet with large colored wings/fins though..

I admit that the customization issue isn’t something I’d thought about before. That alone probably means you are correct in that the Kodan won’t become playable. However, the rest of those points are questionable.
Remodeling armor sets would need to be done for any new race, even if they’re similar to an existing race. The Kodan don’t seem to be more complicated than the Tengu. In fact, their body type might be less complicated.
Saying that their starting area is level 70 is assuming that Kodan characters would be a member of one of the tribes that is in Frostgorge. Judging by the “scattered in all directions” part of the lore, their starting area could be anywhere cold. The most likely place, IMO, would be having their racial “city” just N of Drakkar Spurs, with a starting area stretching down along Frostgorge’s W edge, between Frostgorge and Harathi, and connecting into Snowden Drifts as its 15-25 zone. That is even assuming that ANet would only open up one new zone, as there could also be a whole string of Northern Shiverpeaks zones.
The lore/behavior/etc argument could be made for any of the non-human races that are already playable. And honestly, it could even be applied to Tyria’s human culture as well (ex: human character running around named I Like Big Butts).
The customization issue, though, is a very valid point. If that does prevent them from being playable, I hope we at least get to explore more about the Kodan eventually.
Because they are a lessor-race just like the Skritt
The Kodan have a lot of influence on the world and they are a strong race capable of joining the frontlines. Their lore is amazing.
When he said lesser race he meant that they are part of the Racial sympathy arc of the personal story – you can kind of guarantee that all of the races within that arc won’t be playable e.g. Skritt, Grawl, Quaggan, Hylek etc.
