Make Class Balancing Positive - Not Nerfs
Well, this might come as a shock to you but it’s not fun either to get owned by another player just because his profession hits harder…
sPvP also requires time, effort, skill (probably more than pve) and dedication so don’t despise it just because you don’t like it or suck at it…
I doubt is easy to balance the same skills for pve and pvp, but in pvp an unbalanced skill has a bigger impact. Mainly because in pve if you fail you can always try again, aproach differently, learn the mechanics and predict what’s gonna happen. In pvp if you fail once or the other does something you didn’t expect, that’s it, you lost.
I haven’t seen any “massive nerf” so far.
They are actually all minor tweaks, I’m fine with how Anet balances.
@Azaziel my point isn’t NOT to balance, my point is make the experience more positive.
sPvP does require skill, I am very well aware of that and I am in awe of some of the really good players. My point is that sPvP player can level a new class to 2 and got to lvl80 with the best (or at least even matched gear) with no grinding cost. They can switch classes easily.
It is also very easy for them to balance sPvP only without affecting the rest of the game by simply adjusting the stats of the gear available for sPvP. Preferably in a positive way, so give armor of a weak class a boost rather than nerfing the weapon of the more powerful class.
The fact is that classes that have performed well have been nerfed and continue to perform well, and classes that have underperformed have not been buffed and continue to perform poorly..
So instead of tweaking one “broken” class they should tweak the other 7?
As a warrior, I don’t feel your pain.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

You obviously are not a greatsword guardian player. Many of us are abandoning the greatsword entirely due to the changes.

There is a big difference between positive tweaks and negative tweaks. Maybe you don’t mind having your class nerfed, or is it you get pleasure from seeing classes you don’t play nerfed? That is bully mentality.

I don’t mind nerfs or buffs either way, since I don’t PvP, and in PvE the so-called underwhelming or “nerfed” skills still seem to perform well. I’m just saying that it’s easier and takes less work to tweak a skill from one profession that has been found overpowered through gathered data (and not just forum whine) into a more balanced version than trying to figure out counterbalance through changing skills on 7 professions.
Its easier and more logical from a game designer stand point to nerf 1 class to fix a power issue then to buff the other 7 to bring them up to the same power level.
Also buffing presents itself just as many issues, and probably a lot of unforseen issues that may destabalize game play in various parts of the game.
The fact that nerfs hapkitten because they are doing their jobs and paying attention to the game. As someone mentioned, its not fun if 1 class is face melting the other 7 with impunity. Its fun for those who plya hte 1, but not for the majority.
While some aspects may escape us as to why they get nerfed, I like to believe if not hope that ANET actually takes time and consideration with their nerfs, and its not just throwing whatever at the wall and seeing what sticks.
Nerfs are negative, yes, but they are a necessity.

Lol. Just lol.
I KNOW. It’s just SO difficult to have to refigure out three keys. :/
I feel so sorry for people in this position. It must be absolutely heartbreaking.
Anway, seriously? No. If you always balance up, you have power creep where everyone ends up so much more powerful than they should be. I like the balances.
I know what you are saying, but it is much more complex than you think. For example, class A is hitting harder than class B, C, D, E, and F. So instead of nerfing A, you want to buff B, C, D, E, and F. That sounds good, but it is also 4 times more work than just nerfing A.
Also, if you buff the damage for all classes, then you’ll have to buff HPs of all the mobs, or the games becomes too easy. Then you have to modify NPCs, weapon ratings, armor, etc to comply with this…
I think it is lot easier to just nerf A…

Yes it is of course easier. That’s why they do it. But they also don’t seem to be testing it properly. For example mesmers are good in PvP but weak in PvE. Their recent nerf make mesmers worse for PvE while possibly balancing PvP.
Nevertheless, it would be nice if they tried to put out more positive patches.
Maplestory did what your suggesting (buffs classes to balance) and eventually it forced the devs to change every single creature to become stronger to balance them with stronger classes. Its much simpler to give a few nerfs then go through a process like that.
