Marriage.
i generally hate to pay gems especially a high price like you suggested for fluffy things.
but i like the idea as long as gay marriage won’t be an issue!

I think it would be great to marry in-game!
I support this
I wanna marry Logan….. c:
She probably wants to marry you too
I only support this if we are allowed to get married to more than 1 person…
That way it’s Not cheating if I sleep with another wife.
=)
I don’t think it should cost so much. 1600 gems? That seems rediculous for a bit of fluff. 800, max, if even that.
I’m all for more roleplaying elements but I don’t think it’s on top of Anet’s to-do list right now.

Lol I think this goes too far. Keep marriages in real life.
Lol I think this goes too far. Keep marriages in real life.
i think that e-marriage in a game shouldnt do anything imo we should have a recruit-a-friend program where both new user and player are rewarded with a symbol of them being friends such as say a unique hat re-skin or something and an exp bonus when they are in the same party. this would be a nice way to improve new player counts as well as improve the pace at which new players reach main game content
THAT would be a nice way to join players e-marriage is a useless gimmick that would jsut wind up abused by the micro-store if u ask me. i dont want to seem rude but 9/10 when a game gets a marriage system its either hidden behind a pay wall or its ridiculously priced with in-game currency. and in the end does nothing for the two players who wish to be joined. its a silly RP gimmick and thats not exactly something anyone approves of. u want to get married online, add it to your sig and call it an evening..

Hello can of worms .
Marriage should be left as an RP element nothing more
Yeah, nice for the RP’ers ( I should really get into it, it seems fun :p)
Maybe you can do it by using the LivingStory, make two important characters fall in love and make them marry (As in GW:HotN), sell wedding costumes in the store, etc
And ofc the wedding ring costing 200USD and lets the entire game (crossservers) know the lucky pair! (not stolen from TF2)
I don’t think this game should start moving in direction of sims.
…
Thanks for the feedback guys!
I know this isn’t a top priority for Anet but I hope we can see it sometime in the future.
I’ve played a couple MMO’s that had in-game marriages.
You paid for a package that gave you and the bride/groom wedding outfit, invitations to send out, etc. When your friends got a invite and if they showed they got something special like a piece of wedding cake that gave +%5 exp for a hour.
And in the end all it did was the couple who got married for +5% exp when they played in same party. Not a game breaker or anything. But people enjoyed it immensely.
I can see something similar to this in GW2. I’d go for a seperate instance in LA done by a Goddess or something. That way say a charr and a asura gets married it won’t be any arguing about which hometown to do it in. LOL
I’d pay for something like this.

Couple of Questions:
1) How do you address those who believe in Polygamy
2) How do you address those who wish for same sex marriages
3) What about divorces?
From a company stand point it would be very thin waters for anet or ncsoft to walk down. Any how way this would be implemented, you would end up alienating a section of the player base. Those who are in the LGBT community would be enraged if it was just man & woman. Those who are traditional or moderate will be upset for same sex marriage. Those who are raised in a polygamy culture will want to have 2-3 partners rather they be the same sex or different. Which may tick off the LGBT and the traditional community.
Anet and ncsoft would almost be forced to take a no stand until things smooth out in this heated debate. Dont get me wrong, i love your idea. Just with the current situation going on, I dont think there would be a way to pull it off without trashing a portion of the community.

You know what? It works in other MMO’s I do not see why Anet couldn’t do it too. You aren’t going to alienate anyone cause there are so many who play the opposite sex ingame. I think you are putting to much on that, and not enough credit in our gaming community.
For Polygamy in a VIDEO game cause that is what we are playing. That would be up to Anet. If it is allowed then make it fair and to where the bonus is the same no matter how many partners you have in party. Anything more than that and face it that’s cheating a bit. Or Anet since it is their world can just say not have it period.
To address the same sex marriages part.. why the heck not? It can be just 2 characters who cares about race or sex. Honestly I’d be more concerned for that Asura who married the Norn or Charr!
As for divorce? In the few I played you had to pay for divorce too. Used IG money and it wasn’t to expensive. Face it the money on this would be the marriage packages.
On another note though I’d think marriages should be account bound too.

Well I don’t think the land of tyria has any issues with same sex couples.
Take caith and her partner in the nightmare court what’s that girls name again I always forget.
Overall I think the idea is a good one
but I must point out that the overall amount of player’s in the PR’ing scene right now is very low compared to most MMO’s so I think this idea may take a back seat for awhile before it’s even looked at I really don’t think they did enough for the game for people that like to RP the game comes off more as PvP then anything else which is very sad when your someone that’s come from GW1/WoW
Ya and most of those MMO’s combined don’t reach 1/20th of the population of gw2. Anet staff have sort of down played the lesbian role of caith recently by stating that sylvaris don’t really have love relationships like other races do. It seems to be a back pedal from their last novel.
as for your capping video game, its a Rated T video game, as such it has standards it has to fulfill. Believe it or not some game titles have had their ratings boosted to “M” for having lesbian love scenes (not nude) listing it as erotic and sexual taboo. So it would be something Anet would have to consider.
Keep in mind also,gw2 is an international game and Same Sex Marriage in some of those countries is punishable by death or imprisonment. Even in literary, gaming, and other stuff. Anet wouldnt be in trouble but the gamer would. which means more work to make those servers in those countries up to code and law…

I support the idea of in-game marriages, but I also agree that it’s “too much work for too little gain” for ANet to really put a game mechanic in place for it. At best, we’ll probably get wedding town clothes similar to what we got for GW1, and maybe some Wedding Ring trinkets. It’s a simple enough matter for roleplayers to roleplay everything else that goes into the marriage.
marriages- YES PLEASE!
why? because it’s FUN. it adds depth and dimension to a game, and fosters ties- keeps people coming back for more. loyalty is an issue for EVERY mmo, and gw2 is not immune. give people things that make them feel connected to the game, and they will keep coming back to spend their time here.
you don’t want your character to get married? you’re a hardcore pvper and don’t care for all that rp stuff? fine. don’t get married. no one’s forcing it on you. HOWEVER, there’s a HUGE community of gamers who are feeling rather unengaged (:D) when they play gw2- that would be the RP community. rp community also happens to be arguably the most loyal and staunch supporters of their chosen MMOs. Anet ignores/excludes them at their own risk.
same-sex marriage? who REALLY cares? we’re fighting friggin DRAGONS and KRAIT, and are surrounded by QUAGGANS for cripes sake! people are gonna complain about same sex marriage? ESPECIALLY when at least 1/3 of the female characters in the game actually have a male human operating them? i mean—- how surreal. i challenge any ONE of you to tell Logan and Rytlock they can’t get married, should they so choose. (when you do it, i get dibs on your suffz.)
anyway. it’s a game. we want this game to have a long, successful run. building playerbase and player loyalty is paramount to that. marriage ingame is a solid plus for both.
Allods Online has different-sex interracial marriage and divorce systems, it works awesome (you even have an emote to carry your loved one in your arms).
Why do you need marriage? Roleplaying? but… why? I thought you RP’rs were good at pretending..

Diversity, more things to do, it’s a MMO*RPG* so this would be nice, haters just shouldn’t be bothered as long as this didn’t touch game balance or combat system.
I find it funny the hatred with housing, marriage system and things alike.
I think there is a post somewhere on player housing as well as guild halls but you do have your own personal instance sadly no house in it yet.
The marriage thing seems fine even in gw1 I’ve been to a virtual wedding just the guild and some friends in game and hang out in the guild hall pretty much 0.0 granted you could have your own thing already just not made for you and limited by arena net

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no… And did I mention NO!?
This has to be worse that the valentines rubbish they already have in the game, throwing flowers around and fluffy lovey dovey animations. Please… If they added this into GW2 I would quit out of pure disgust!
Any indicators of marriage stuff could be limited to those who “married”, keeping the most of it off of haters’ sights. Even the church (if it was to exist) could be somewhere away from obvious places, this could be a transparent feature to whoever would not like to see it.

I want Logan to marry as well. But I would like to be able to choose a really horrible person to marry him, just as a sort of pay back.
But seriously, this is a nice idea. I like the idea of players forming connections with each other, and exchanging rings. The social element is just really a strong aspect of it all.

There are a few MMO’s that allow and even orchestrate marriage in game.

Here’s why I agree with this suggestion.
FROM A RL PERSPECTIVE: I play this game with my fiance. She’s actually the one who got me hooked on it. She’s going into the Navy and is currently at boot camp but when she gets out we plan to get married soon irl. Since the game is one of the things we love playing and doing together so much it would be really awesome to be able to get “married in game” as well as real life. I’m really into the cutesy kind of ideas.
FROM A ROLEPLAY PERSPECTIVE: I am the kind of person who enjoys writing fanfics and backstories to my characters. My Sylvari mesmer’s story involved discovering that Magister Sieran of the Priory survived and finding her due to his romantic interest caused by her fun, carefree, adventurous attitude. Seeing as I’m still writing the story I don’t know if it will ever make it quite to this point but I think it would be cool to have a title or some indicator that my character is with Sieran. As far as roleplay goes though i can see it having the opposite immersion breaking effect if you see many people all running around saying they’re married to the same NPC.
No. Maybe put in some nice spots to host RP weddings (nice quiet area in the grove/empty cathedral in Divinities Reach) but no real marriage system. People would get married just for the stuff that comes along. MMOs with a system always see it abused. Gather your Guild and Roleplay a wedding at a pretty spot. I’m sure a lot of people will attend, it’s a nice idea =)
i generally hate to pay gems especially a high price like you suggested for fluffy things.

How about interracial marriages? Don’t you think male asura wouldn’t look cute with female charr bride?
Allods Online has different-sex interracial marriage and divorce systems, it works awesome (you even have an emote to carry your loved one in your arms).
Wow, it looks like a cheap WoW ripoff.
Why do you need marriage? Roleplaying? but… why? I thought you RP’rs were good at pretending..
I agree. I don’t think there is any need for things like game marriage, if players want to, they can RP it. I’d prefer something usefull being added to the game that would benefit majority of players like new dungeons and locations, spvp maps etc than things like players housing, RP stuff or mounts.
Allods Online. Amazing game. Hopefully they can grab some of the stuff from that game such as the guild system etc. took alot of hard work to make guilds successful in that game and would be awesome to see a hardcore guild version here.
