[Merged] Think "Mounts" outside the box!
with all the other things that would be better for gw2 that they are still not doing, i really don’t want their time wasted on this.
I’ll pass thank you. I like to imagine my character already rides an ethereal unicorn through the mists when travelling via waypoint, anything other than this would just be a disappointment.
No. No mounts.
It drastically shrinks the world and reduces immersion when the game is sorely lacking immersion since theres no reason to go into any zone right now other than when a world boss pops, FSG, Queensdale, or Living Story flavor of the week zone.
I want my immersion, I want a large world.
Would you rather the removal of way points with out mounts then? Help make the world bigger and add to the immersion?

Hm,
Maybe maybe not. I dont know. I like sometimes stopping in a zone, looking up and the sky and off in the distance and just being engulfed in it all.
Not mounts but i’d like movement effects for each class. Like Elementalist would ride a cloud of lightning or an Engineer would ride a cool bike of some sort etc.
Isn’t this pretty much the same as your thread about having all waypoints removed?
No, no mounts.
Mounts No no!
I’m confused on people’s stances and trying to understand.
Adding mounts would make the world too small?
Removing way points would make the world too big?
I enjoyed riding my horses and boat in Daoc, and I think I might have had something in Age of Conan before I finished with that. I wouldn’t be against mounts or other travelling contraptions but then I pretty often don’t waypoint within a map or even into a neighbouring map. There are things Anet might need to work on first though.
I think mounts would make the world too small. Especially if any speed increase was too quick.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

Yes and no.
I’ve played/am playing other MMO’s that have mounts and I admit that there is something cool about roaming the countryside on your mount. It does add to the immersion of the game, and there is potential for mounted combat (if the dev’s were so inclined)
However…
The problem with mounts are that people tend to leave them ‘on’ in the middle of community hubs just for the pleasure of showing off, and this creates visual spam. Lion’s Arch is crowded enough without having a bunch of players idle in front of the bank, hours at a time, with their mounts out (most mounts I’ve seen in games tend to be large).
No thank you.
The second problem I see is that you can’t get rid of the waypoint system. It’s a system of mass convenience when you need to move your guild to a particular area really fast when you have a short window of time. It is almost mandatory with certain guild events (bounty’s in particular).
I’m happy with my witches broom. It’s small, does not offer any benefit, and has utilities built in that allow it to function on a secondary basis (i.e. Costume brawl).
‘Mounts’ like that I could support.
Mouts would be pointless, all the zones are instance based and way points pretty much let you go to any location. I love mounts in this game, I just thing this game does not have a good enough system for them.
Casting my vote for NO MOUNTS!
It just doesn’t fit the design of this game.
Same as some of the responses. There’s more important things that need to be addressed, and a long list of other things I’d much rather see make it into the game. Mounts however is not one of ’em.
And waypoints are much more convenient when traveling long distances in a short time. It’s more immersive vs. riding on the back of something, at least in this game.
No thank you.
This again? Yet another pointless thread.
This is not WoW, there will not ever be “mounts” and the waypoint system will never be removed from the game. It does not add “immersion”, and does not make the world bigger, the usage of mounts infact makes it smaller because the map zone sizes are not large enough to utilise mounts. We can already run across the longest point of the map in minutes.
The only, and I mean ONLY thing Anet will ever add is cosmetic mounts, such as the witches broomstick. It has zero effect on movement speed, and is really only an animation change for your characters movement.
NO we do not want!
I’ve been asking this since the release. YES WE DO
Except I’d like to keep WP’s and mounts. People can choose what they want to do. Tyria would be much more fun exploring with mounts then by walking
Would you stop asking the same thing… The game has waypoints, no mounts are needed. Removal of waypoints would not add to immersion for the vast majority of people in fact all it would do is annoy people.

In asking for opinions on mounts youre in effect asking three questions:
1) Would I want a mount instead of WPs?
A) Yes so long as mounts wouldnt give more than 33% movement speed (swiftness).
2) Would the game benefit from mounts?
A) Yes and no. They would be an awesome thing to collect and could add new mechanics to the game such as mount evolution. In the long run however they wouldnt bring much to the game that WPs dont already…. and seeing everyone sitting on their mounts in LA would be intolerable.
3) Do I think they will ever be a feature of GW2?
A) Definitely no. As many have mentioned GW2 likes to deviate from the ‘standard model’ of MMOs as much as possible plus the logistics of creating mounts is enormous in GW2. Imagine having to make sure every piece of armour of every race and class dint clip with the mount? Wont happen.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
No.
That is all.
At this point in the game, I don’t think it would be a good addition. The zones are too small and filled for mounts to not be out of place. It’d just cause too many technical issues I fear.
No, I don’t want mounts. Wasting several minutes traveling to my destination just so I can begin playing isn’t my idea of fun. If you feel waypoints ruin your ‘immersion’ then don’t use them. Stop making terrible suggestions, especially one that’s been beaten to death so many times before.
I have a better idea for people that want mounts:
Step 1: Google search your favorite animal or creature.
Step 2: Print out picture of said animal or creature.
Step 3: Cut out the animal or creature.
Step 4: Tape the animal or creature on your monitor just below your character.
There ya go. You have your own mount! The best part? You can use it in any game!

I personally don’t want mounts. I want GW2 to stay unique. It has it’s issues, but if such things as mounts were added it’d just be another copycat. As to your question about removing waypoints, heck no! In all honesty, I believe there would be no quicker way to clear every map in the game, even if mounts were added instead. Few if any players would want to cross 2-3 maps or more to get to events on a regular basis, even if they looked cool doing it.

No to mounts….
No to waypoint removal…
If you desire that much of a time sink, do go play those other games that suit your tastes. Please do not try to make this game into those games. If we wanted to play those games, then we would not be here.
I just got word that the S.P.C.D. (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Dolyaks) has strongly condemned the concept of using natures gentle beasts as modes of transport for the lazy. From their official release:
“While it’s barely tolerable as it is to accept these graceful beasts blessings for us to share in carrying our burdens, denigrating them to mere means of transport, especially for that of the larger (and of questionably hygienic) species would be no less than cruelty to the highest degree.”
No, and seriously, stop making 1000 topics about it. It’s ridiculous. You have waypoints every few meters, you have swiftness on every class – why in the blue hell would you need mount other than to showoff >.> A mount which eventually everybody would have. It would be yet another useless thing like the minis.
No thank you.

I think waypoints are a major feature of this game and shouldn’t be removed [even though I’d personally rather have mounts.]
More toy mounts would be fun, on the other hand. My asura wants a golem!
I don’t want a mount. If mounts are added in the game, I won’t care. I just won’t get one and let others that DO want them be happy with a mount.
FFXIV has waypoints and mounts, it works. Also almost every RPG – even offline – has kind of mounts. It’s just normal and a fun thing we can collect. I like mounts in WoW. I never got the extreme negativity towards mounts in the Guild Wars community.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
By the time you would reach a world event it’d be long gone. You would have to travel more maps, which means more loading time. So no thank you. I hate mount anyways, but there are reasons why they aren’t doing that.
That greatly increase your out of combat speed and auto-dismount in combat.
As a compromise. All the waypoints in Tyria would be removed. Apart from the major cities.
A compromise? I actually do like my waypoints, thank you very much. If you want to remove them, then adding mounst would just be adding insult to the injury.
Also, in the world that it is you would lose far more time mounting and dismounting every few steps than you would gain by a mount’s increased speed. Trying to use a mount to run through Orr, for example, would be even more annoying than it is now.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
On the one hand, I would love a mount and be able to ride it across the lands of Tyria. I would especially love it if there was mounted battle.
On the other hand, the maps are too small to warrant mounts. Furthermore, adding mounts and removing waypoints (and/or increasing size map) amounts (haha!) to nothing more than a time sink. Also, the game doesn’t really need it.
Overall: No from me.

In effect helping bring every one into a level playing field in being able to travel quickly whilst still maintaining some immersion to the game.
Seeing as Guild Wars 1 only had way points at outposts. It would also make death more undesirable (waypoint back to major cities) and would in effect promote a community.
Would people find this desirable?
I didn’t think travel speed was something that needed a level playing field. Even so, the fact everyone has access to the same WPs already has it on an even playing field. I guess you’re saying that people who are so poor they can’t afford to WP aren’t on an even playing field, but holy crap what % of people can’t afford to WP? GW2 pretty much throws gold at you these days if you do any kind of regular dungeon running.
What I think would be fair for the poor folks (seriously learn some money management, how will you make it in the real world if you can’t make imaginary finances work), would be if every zone had one free WP. The main outpost/camp of that zone. At the very least then a poor person could make it to the zone and then run the rest of the way. The cost to travel to the other WPs in the zone is the cost of convenience.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Also to add the reason GW1 only had WP in major cities and outposts was because it was ALL instanced outside of the cities/outposts. GW2 is a persistant world, with instanced content zones (ie dungeons).
Two totally different kettle of fish.
It would be frankly idiotic to force a player who has died in somewhere like Cursed Shore to then have to respawn several map zones away in Lions Arch, which is btw the nearest major city. The game would need more city zones added or totally new outposts zones, which is just more work and effort for nothing in return.
No. No mounts. Every time this question is asked it is always no. Your other thread suggesting we be removed was locked, that should have given you a clue.

If you don’t want mounts that’s ok for you, but don’t be a party-pooper for us who do want them.
I see a lot of concerns from some of the newer people to add to this conversation. If you would read though some of the older post you will see a lot of these concerns have had great compromises made between the two factions so that these concerns are not really a problem at all.
And to the person that all these newer comments are directed to and about removing the waypoints, I think I want to understand you better and ask do you mean that while you are mounted that the waypoints disappear for you and those who choose not to be mounted would still see the waypoints?
I understand the fact that we dont need mounts in PvE as we have the waypoints, but what about WvW? it would be amazing to have some mounts there! and it will give some strategical ideas like charging, or flanking e.t.c.
Flying mouts would be amazing too in WvW…imagine a huge land battle and at the same place a huge battle between dragon riders, flying baloons e.t.c…would be breathtaking????
Please someone stab me in the eyes so I don’t ever have to see stuff like this again.
The thing about mounts in Tyria is that, well, I can’t ever recall seeing a horse… ever. Not in GW1 or GW2. About the only thing I could see as a ‘mount’ is a dolyak and they’re slow, lumbering beasts of burden, slower than running.
GW got around the whole mount by being able to teleport virtually everywhere. Unfortunately, as much as it may help in WvW, the lore just doesn’t support mounts. Mounts probably won’t ever be added because GW tends to stick to its lore much more than other MMOs I’ve played.
Also, most professions get essentially a 25% boost to their base speed (the same as a lot of game’s ‘mounts’ give the only difference is you don’t have a horse, and other players or skills can boost it even more).
I admit, airborne battles could be cool, but again Tyria just doesn’t have feasible mounts for it. The magic can’t make you fly and the flying machines typically are slow blimps designed more like drop ships. Can’t fly dragons either, they’re evil except Glint. Glint was in GW1, she was killed by Krakkatorik (the elder dragon of Ascalon) for betraying him. Drakes aren’t aerial beings either, they’re more like large lizards.
Basically, GW distances itself from all of the other fantasy games by not just copy and pasting everything they have. It’s the biggest reason why GW has always stayed on my computer when other MMOs came and went.
Please someone stab me in the eyes so I don’t ever have to see stuff like this again.
LOL,….you do this to yourself….you never listen…why can’t you just ignore them. You do not even have to open it up…don’t read it and then you get your wish.
I mean, I can ignore them for a little while, but eventually someone says something that I feel needs defending…note right now I am not defending…I am trying to help you….trust me you will feel better…without the arguments.

ya…no… I’d personally never like to see mounts in gw2… idk why, just the thought makes me cringe…
As far as aerial mounts go, they would ruin WvW. Why go through the trouble of building a ram or catapult to break down a door or wall when you can just fly right in? There’s a reason keeps and castles were effective in the middle ages…because there were no airplanes or helicopters.
(edited by bynkowski.9046)
Aerial mounts makes no sense on WvW because Bron said. But its a wonderful feature for “Generals” and “Commanders”. That’s it, how nice to show your excelent mount, exclusive because hard work. That give you some respect if you earn it.
