Mesmer: A Plea for Movement Speed
Personally I use the runes which give swiftness on heals (centaur?) with the mirror-heal (very short cooldown). In combination with Signet of Inspiration (which gives a random boon, swiftness appears quite often) most of the time I run with perma swiftness.

I use Eagle runes, no way am I replacing them unless its for Scholars :P
We shouldn’t have to kitten ourselves that badly just to pick up an additional source of movement speed.
I sometimes use Inspiration but it’s so random I really can’t depend on it.
I’m hoping either
a) all classes get a 25% speed signet
or b) they just buff all out of combat run speed by 25% and free a utility slot up for better things.
kitten ourselves? I would kitten myself much more when replacing any of my valuable utility slots with a swiftness-only signet. Seriously… Mesmers have too good utility skills
I’d go with b), but I don’t like this idea…
Maybe as an utility stat for utility slots on ascended items
Or a tier 1 minor trait for all professions. And not one where the Mesmer has to have clones

5/8 classes have access to the signet. You don’t have to use it if you feel it is less valuable than other utilities.
I feel that not even having it as an option is pretty weak.
When trying to cross a battlefield to catch up to the zerg, or get to a point under attack to defend it, 25% is pretty a big improvement . Since it would be a passive effect, its fairly easy to drop the signet into a slot and take it back out once you get close/to where you’re going.
Almost every other class has one, they should just even the field and give the final 3 the same option.
my solution: every profession has an increase of movement speed, the longer you are out of combat. (e.g. every 5sec +5% until 25% are reached). Speed up the process by spending stamina from the dodge-meter -> dodge while out of combat = +10% speed + dash animation which also works as an evade
offtopic question: why is someone with swiftness boon running slower when entering combat? Shouldn’t swiftness always have the same stat-bonus?

Was talking with a guildie about this earlier, when I mentioned how awfully slow mesmers are, which annoyingly slows the group down in WvW.
Would definitely like to see a movement speed bonus to mesmers (preferably in the form of a 25% signet).
Focus + Superior Rune of the Air + Mirrior = Near unlimited swiftness…. If you want to run dont complain because your exact set up doesn’t allow for it.
“QQ I lost to the class because they run faster” B.S lol

If this is true then it puts the Mesmer on par with other classes. It means all classes can build for swiftness if they choose to. So if engis and guardian was included in the OP’s list, the Mesmer should have been as well.

I wanna say with absolute certainty, Mesmer have most trash utilities in every professions. Especially the terribleness of signet comes out on top. Mesmers are given to using limited utilities.

Maybe its a matter of play style but the only class with equally bad or worse utility skills is the guardian.
I look at the mesmer’s utility slots and I cant find a use for most of them. Again maybe its a matter of playstyle. Iv read a few posts where people say they just cant handle the engineer, its too much for them to figure out. But I had no problem learning the engineer it was all very simple for me. So maybe the mesmer’s utilities are good for people who understand them. I’m not one of them people.
I would like to point out thakittens a lot simpler and faster to trade out one utility slot for movement speed before you engage in combat than it is to switch out your off-hand weapon and your 6 pieces of armor to change from travel mode to combat mode.

You kinda helped make my point.
Mesmer has to have a certain weapon and runes slotted to have decent movement speed uptime when other classes just get a signet and have a “permanent” 25% increase.
Both my armor sets have the runes that give speed on heals. also i’ve begun using the focus more mostly for phantasmal warden damage but the run speed is nice, would be nicer if they made it last longer. Or like someone else mentioned; change signet of inspiration into a speed signet like the ele one.
Well, once the Superior Speed set’s 6/6 gets fixed, that’ll be a +25% boost, without using one’s heal. Current price’s about what Air/Centaur used to run for. Failing that, the Traveler’s set isn’t half bad, but are almost as pricey as Divinity.
As much as I: 1.) Main a Mesmer, and 2.) Definitely understand the wish for a “speed utility,” the fact is: 3.) It’s probably never happening, since folk are kitten -out scared of Mesmers, as a whole.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Honestly, why is mesmer the only class that has to rely on runes to get a decent speed boost. The other option is to get a 10% increase in speed for each illusions but that would also mean being in combat. Chaos storm is a gamble and doesn’t last long. Not only that, this is a bit off topic but mesmers have to trait to get a condition remover on their heal, and it only clears one condition. Mesmers don’t even have good movement skills either, unless you use blink but compare that to Engineer’s rocket boots and their Elixir Gun #4, the ranger sword #2 and gs #3, guardian gs #3, elementalist ride the lightning, or thief and warrior which everyone probably knows how good their mobility is. Portal? yeah right, blink? pff, 900 range but on 30 seconds cd.
It’d be great if they extended the speed boost on the focus.
It’s not a QQ thing, because mesmer really do suck when it comes to moving forward.
I would love a signet for movement speed as well.
When my friend plays his thief, he is straifing around me. When playing his warrior, he is constantly dropping banners just to speed me up (lol).
The other day, he was even calculating on the cost of travelers runes, because he would love for my mesmer to move with a decent pace :P
If mesmers want to give up a utility slot for 25% speed they should be allowed to, you could strip the 25% signets from other classes and tell them to suck it up and rune for Swiftness to… lol.

how about a signet based off this GW1 skill
Signet of Haste
passive: You run 25% faster
active: Well I am not sure how to word it or make it fair but you get the idea …..
I actually liked the suggestion given by Osicat a while back regarding Signet of Inspiration. I think it would be a rather elegant solution.
