Could be a possibilty.
More weapons for each profession equals more skills. New weapons also equals more skills.

My ideas for more equipable weapons for professions:

Elementalist: Main-hand swords (mid-range AOE), warhorns (boons/conditions).

Warrior: Main-hand/Off-hand guns (conditions).

Guardian: main-hand axes (dmg/cripple), off-hand maces (support/wards).

Engineer: Hammers (knockback/heal turrets), main-hand maces (stun/heal turrets).

Ranger: Hammers (mid-range AOE).

Necromancer: Main-hand swords (swapping boons and conditions), torches (AOE burn/poison).

Thief: Off-hand swords (stun/dmg).

Mesmer: Main-hand guns (confusion), main-hand maces (daze/distortion).

My ideas for new weapons:

Two-handed axes: Can be called polearms. Used by warriors, guardians and (maybe) necromancers.

  • Warrior: Focuses on crippling and immobilizing a handful of enemies with close-range heavy swings.
  • Guardian: Deals high close-range DMG while blocking and countering attacks from nearby and far away.
  • Necromancer: Can gain life force and cause poison in close-/mid-range.

Crossbows: Can be one- or two-handed. If one-handed, used by thieves in both hands, rangers in main-hand and engineers in off-hand. If two-handed used by thieves, rangers, engineers and warriors.

  • Thief: Uses skills to gain initiative and steal boons from the targeted enemy.
  • Ranger: Combines burn, bleed and poison into great condition DMG from mid-/long-range.
  • Warrior: A bit positioning of the enemy along with combined abilities of the longbow and the rifle.
  • Engineer: Causes mid-/long-ranged DMG and cripple along with a skill that causes a delayed explosion on the target’s surroundings.

Hovering orbs: An off-hand only weapon. Used by elementalists, necromacers, guardians and mesmers.

  • Elementalist: Gain boons by being attacked and mostly balances between offense and defense.
  • Necromancer: Give poison and other conditions to nearby and attacking enemies.
  • Mesmer: Phantasm that reflects DMG and immobilizing an enemy.
  • Guardian: Can place a ward at the target from long-range and a symbol that causes aegis.

Feel free to come with your ideas and criticize mine!

Edit: Removed longbow from thief and warhorn from guardian. Added theme/focus
for each weapon. Added engineer in the crossbow list. Added theme/focus for the guardian orb. Added off-hand mace in the guardian list. Removed the gun from the ranger list (own decision).

Making a suggestion like this, you might want to give what sort of theme the weapon has for that profession.

Life is a journey.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.

Professions don’t have those corresponding weapons suggested because they’re balanced around certain mechanics and themes. So expanding weapon varieties is an extremely touchy proposal.

Examples:

  • Guardians don’t have warhorns because they’re protectors and, well, guardians. They do not start fights or “lead the charge”. They’re more focused on self-defense and keeping allies alive.
  • Thieves don’t have long bows because thieves are conceptually short-to-mid range. They want to take something from targets, so they prefer to be a little closer then most.

The only legitimate pairing is the Engineer with a Hammer.
Because they do kind of need a melee-weapon, and I mean really… Why wouldn’t an Engineer be able to fight with a hammer?!

“Bleeding, Poison, Confusion, Torment, they all look delightful on you.”

Lv80s: Guard, Thief, Necro. Renewed my Altaholic’s card on the HoT Hype-Train. Choo choo~

More ideas for new weapons:

Bombs: An off-hand only weapon. Can be used by thieves, engineers and (maybe) warriors (might be too similar to the engineer’s grenade kit but could still be a possibility).

  • Thief: Causes AOE blinding and poison from mid-range
  • Engineer: Does AOE burn and knockdowns from close-/mid-range
  • Warrior: Does AOE burn and vulnerability from mid-range

Battlestaff: Can also be called rods, canes, daibos, etc. A two-handed weapon. Used by elementalists, (maybe) guardians and (maybe) mesmers.

  • Elementalist: Focuses on projectile reflecting and knockdown/knockback in
    close-/mid-range.
  • Guardian: Focuses on both wards and symbols. Does close-range DMG
  • Mesmer: Can cause distortions, glamours and summons a phantasm for knockback/knockdown. Does mid-range DMG.

I am too awating new weapon options for various professions. However, you have you ask yourself if they (ArenaNet) could just plop some weapons and call it content. They take time, to balance and also fit the style of the profession. New weapons sort of extend those boundries since they are new, and can be distrubted amoungst various professions but simply asking to add more weapon options to the professions is a bit kitten. They need a reason other than to add more options to them. (Like adding a 2h heavy weapon to thief. it wouldn’t fit nor would it be likable since they are more face paced.)

I fully understand and agree but if you mean I’m not staying in the profession’s theme then which one then?

I would love to see a crossbow but I do not see the cross ow as a ranger weapon. I would argue first being engi, thief, warrior. Ranger needs more combat options – not ranged.

I could definitely see a ranger with a crossbow but I guess that’s just opinion. And yes the crossbow could fit for the engineer in some way but I think the engineer needs at least one melee weapon before more ranged weapons are added to that profession. But I’ll put the engineer on the crossbow list anyway!
