I just almost had my daily completed. All I needed was aquatic kills and crafter. I was working on my aquatic kills and was at 90% complete and was about to head to Lions Arch to finish my crafting challenge and it reset on me. It has now come to my attention that the dailys need to go back to how they were. If you don’t complete them in a certain time then it just allowed you to complete them whenever. Now I have wasted time and nothing to show for it. This seems like a problem and it needs to be fixed. This is my only complaint with the daily’s as I enjoy them very much so. But this would literally drive many people insane.

Agreed. I ran into the same scenario. Wife made dinner, I got up to eat, came back and poof I had to start over again – boy the daily dodge is a real bummer. I get it, but I lost all of them as all I had left was crafting. Didn’t have time to make it to a table and craft in time for the reset and poof… Gone was all that work. It is frustrating and I’m sure there is a way to adjust this, it’s just a matter of enough people asking them to do so.

in my server whenever my clock reached 1 am, daily resetted and new daily started.

I don’t think a fix is too much to ask for, especially for dailies that fall in the middle of the evening.

A “fix” implies that something is broken, whereas dailies are working as intended: they reset every day at midnight UTC, which is 4 pm PST and 7 pm EST.

On the other hand, people have suggested that the reset time be changed so that it’s more likely that most people are asleep, i.e. that it won’t occur during the middle of most people’s play time. However, whatever time that’s chosen is going to bad for someone.

The system used in WoW is better.

Quest completion and daily reset should be treated as separate events. The daily reset should only affect a player if he has 100% completion. At the point of completion your daily is done and you cannot start on it again until the next daily reset. This way if you get to 90% completion and the daily reset time is reached, it ticks over and you only have 10% left to complete. Once you complete that final 10% your quest is done, you get the rewards but you can’t start on the next daily until after the next reset time.

Pretty much as stated in the OP.

Even if it wasn’t that way before. Which I thought i remembered it was. <——must have been a brain fart.
The point would still remain if you were able to:

*24 hour span but if you don’t complete Daily it waits for you to complete it.
*After completing daily it rolls over to next Daily if you have surpassed the 24 hour mark.
*Next daily in completion has a 24 hour span after you completed last Daily before next Daily starts.
*In turn this would allow people to set their Daily’s up to when they are on and able to complete them.
*In turn, no complaining about timezones and everyone is happy.

I think it defeats the object to have the same Daily rollover to the next day if you ran out of time to complete it. What’s to stop that same Daily rolling over several days if you still haven’t finished it. Those Daily targets were for that day only, that’s the whole point, hence the name. If you don’t have enough time that day, never mind, you’ll have a chance to do a Daily tomorrow, or whenever you choose to play next. It’s not like the Daily takes that long to complete anyway and it often fits in well with whatever events and exploration you’re doing.

Once I was at 90% completion and the Daily reset at midnight. Instead of blaming the mechanic, I simply thought, hmm, too slow! It didn’t bother me unduly as I’d enjoyed playing. I then went on to complete the new Daily and grabbed the Laurel.

I think the main problem is that, due to the difference in timezones, the Reset can happen in the middle of the day for some people. However, I live in the UK, so my Reset happens at midnight, which is perfect as it’s naturally the start of a new day. Perhaps the Daily Reset should be connected to the Player’s Local time, not the Server time, then the Rollover would happen at midnight for everyone, wherever they live.

Why is it so hard for so many people to learn how to read a clock?

Each and every person gets 24 hours to complete the Daily Achievement. The 24 hours ends and a new 24 hours begins at the same moment for every player around the world.

Why is this so hard for people to understand?

Buy a clock. Hang it on your wall. Learn to use it.

It seems rather selfish to just assume everyone revolves around your OWN play-style. Please people use logic before you post against things, and think about all the other players who don’t speak their minds on the forums. In this case, the person can take pride in the fact that they have a real life and are too busy to chase after make-believe prizes dangled in front of them by a video game.

I personally do 1 or 2 Daily Achievements per week – and one of those is during my weekly get-together with friends on Team Speak. I have no interest in playing Guild Wars every day, even if I had the time.

I understand the Daily Achievement system. Each player has 24 hours to complete them. For some people, the 24 hours begins when they’re asleep. For others, it starts when they’re eating lunch. Regardless, everyone has a full 24 hours. I know my local time for the Daily roll-over and I understand that is the time when a 24 hour Daily Achievement period ends and the next one begins.

I think it’s a good idea although I wouldn’t call it a fix (more like a good suggestion). Doesn’t really hurt anyone and benefits players who haven’t have the time to spend 1-2 hours completing dailies each day.

*Edit

Actually it has one little bad effect… If you complete it partially and it moves on to the next week/month, you won’t get the arenanet coins (or whatever they’re called) and the exp gained by progressing the daily/monthly achievement requirements.

I just posted this same thing last night. It would help the really casual players. Why would it matter to anyone if it takes five days to complete one? Maybe Anet wants us all to quit work and leave our families so we can complete our dailies.
This should also apply to the monthlies. If it takes me six months to complete a monthly so be it.

I’ve always seen the Daily/Monthly as a challenge. If the Daily rolls over to the next day, and the next etc, the reward would be guaranteed, it would purely depend on how long you take to get it. Therefore I think it would stop becoming a challenge, in the way Arenanet intended the Daily/Monthly to be. I enjoy looking at the Daily and thinking of the best location in which to complete it. It leads me to explore more of the world and get involved in events I hadn’t seen previously.

I think it would be a good idea if Laurels dropped as a rare random drop from mobs too, or maybe just from Veterans and Champions? So that the Laurel is not purely exclusive to Daily/Monthly achievements. This would allow players who don’t have time to complete their Daily, the chance to still loot a Laurel whenever they have time to play.

I certainly don’t play GW2 everyday nor would I want to, and when I do play it’s merely for an hour or so. However, because the Daily reset is at midnight I usually have time to complete the Daily earlier and not run into the Reset issue others are suffering. Hence why in my earlier comment I suggested the Daily be set to the Player’s local time, not Server time.

The idea of a visible timer, that someone else suggested, would be a useful addition. Yet probably best as a toggle-able option so people who don’t want to see it can turn it off.

Although there is nothing inherently wrong or illogical with your proposal, by the same token there is equally nothing wrong with the current implementation either — assuming that Anet means it as an extra perk to encourage a more populated, “alive” world (which does appear to be the case from their various communications). Each is a legitimate design approach. But, to my mind, the latter seems better aligned with my conjecture of Anet’s goals for this feature. (With that said, I am not arguing one way or the other.)

As practical advice, keep in mind that there is no need to complete the daily in one sitting. You have a full twenty four hours. If, for example, you only have from 23:30 until 00:30 UTC to play then for the first half hour you complete the current daily and for the second half hour you work on the next daily (which you will finish later on that day).

If the problem is that you can’t complete the daily at all in your available playing time, then you may want to consider working towards the monthly instead.

Then they’ve got 2 hours to the Daily which I’ve seen reports takes 30 minutes to do.

  • They have time to do their Daily between 8 pm and 9 pm. 9 pm to 6 am is 9 hours. They could even decide to stay up 30 minutes to an hour later and still get the recommended 8 hours of sleep.
  • They can also work on it some in the morning before they go to work.

There, I solved the problem for the person who works 13 hour days. I bet he also has the weekend to do dailies. He’s probably also a casual due to time limits so he probably isn’t in dire need for ascended gear so the slow acquisition of laurels probably won’t bother him too badly most likely.

I see a bunch more people who want this more than just a few who think “oh too slow.”

What you see is the people who want to complain about it making those complains while only those who actively think it’s dumb replying against it. You can’t take those quantities to be representative of anything, for or against.

Now, for those that were curious, this is how it ACTUALLY used to work. Also, I’m pretty sure it was a bug.

If you had not finished your daily, AND you didn’t log out or change zones, the values of the previous day would remain allowing you to finish what was left. Once you finished it would then roll over into the next day. If you logged out, changed character, or zoned to anywhere, after the day change had occured, it would roll over to the next day whether you finished the previous day or not.

Again, I don’t believe this was ever how it was intended to work, and was a bug that no one ever reported because why would they?

It seems to me that the MOST optimal solution is to allow us to choose when our daily rollover occurs, rather than having it take place at the same time worldwide. Why do we all have to have the same dailies active at the same time?

Guess you never heard of proxies or ip spoofs? I can easily make my PC appear to connect from anywhere in the world.

Oh I’ve heard of them, and use of them isn’t hard to spot, especially when someone’s location keeps changing… using proxies or IP spoofs to fool the system is likely to throw up red flags. If your sitting there playing a game you’re not going to be changing your proxy or spoofing your IP across the world in the middle of a play session, and if you do the odds are you’re up to something shady. It doesn’t take much to connect the dots. Also if your IP changes to a location across the world while your playing you’re account is likely to be flagged for suspicion of account trading, an offense they can ban you on. So claiming the “oversight” of these functions is a flaw in the suggested system is a flawed point. The use of them on an online game puts your account on the radar for suspicious activity. If you wish to risk your account being potentially suspended or banned by using them to spoof your IP across the world for a few extra hours on a daily then go right ahead. I’m sure the support team would love to hear how you were just trying to buy a few more hours for your daily.

If it resets at 7pm and you know you can’t get it all done by time you get before 7pm then do it AFTER 7pm, then your done for the daily and then tommorow at 7pm it resets and you get your new daily for after 7pm etc etc etc.

The only issues come down to when you only have an extremely limited time (say 1 hour a day at best) to play and the reset happens in the middle, but regardless of what you do your going to miss out on things in game with that limit.

How can you not finish your daily you have 24 hours to do it. They reset

  • 4pm PST
  • 5pm GMT
  • 6pm CST
  • 7pm EST

I am sorry but no fix is needed, if you can only get on between 6 and 9 pm no matter what time your in do your dailies at 7 pm, they usually take 20 to 45 minutes to complete. Then when you log on the next day your dailies are done.

What your asking is like someone asking their local transit to come 20 minutes later because you can’t get going sooner, so you expect them to adjust to your time schedule instead of adjusting to theirs. Just pay attention and suck it up.

maybe they should make another tier for “Hourly”, so players have more of a challenge. 1 laurel for finishing each hour, because it’s rewarding to be logged in. For Hourly, change the ONE SINGLE item rotate every hour, and make it kill count & types/ambient/crafting/gathering/karma spent ones.

then make the daily “complete 2 hourlys” = gold, karma, XP, no Laurels

Weekly would equate to “complete 5 dailys” (out of 7 days, for leeway) = 2 Laurels, Laurel rewards start here, gold, karma, or xp

Monthly would equate to “complete 15 (yes, only 15) dailies” or “complete 2 weeklies” = 10 Laurels, gold, and karma

sure, the math is off, but it’s a suggestion.
