I know the mmo genre has always been more centered around the pve aspect of things rather than pvp. i hate to say it but gw2 certainly follows trend and is really lacking in the pvp department. Pve in gw2 is probably great (im strictly a pvp player so i wouldnt know) and im sure many people love it, but for me at least (and im sure im not the only one) pvp is where the real replay value of any game comes from. Pve is only as interesting as the newest content while pvp is as entertaining as long as there are other real players to compete against.

All this being said, it no secret that players are quickly getting bored of pvp in its current state. If Anet really cares about the longevity of their game, and im not saying they have any incentive to, heres how to unarguably improve gw2 pvp. Note: these are ALL of the things i believe pvp could benefit from. I know gw2 is free-to-play so i dont expect everything i mention to be added, its up to anet what they feel is worth it. i can tell you this much though, the more of this they add the better pvp will be..

considering how many times i’ve had “this is a pvp game!” crammed down my throat, i find this interesting. i don’t know what to say, as i don’t pvp, but i know guildmates who do, love it. i also believe that anet has stated that there will be expansions to the maps, they are considering duels and something along the lines of arenas … and LOTS of folk are asking for gvg. good luck, but also be sure and check their posts, blogs, forums, etc, so that you know what they are planning on implementing. hopefully, it’ll help cheer ya up ;-)

Just to say, for PvE players, PvE is also stale. The end game isn’t expansive, monumental, satisfying and most of what people do now is grind and farm for gear, mats, resources, many of which is for legendary or dungeon gear…. The dynamic events are all very cookie cutter molds and on repeat over and over. And difficulty levels of things which you’d expect to be amazing like huge dragon bosses…. Aren’t very impressive or difficult.also maps once all explored makes u kind of feel like there is nowhere to go. I think the fun is more coming from people you hang with and do things together with. Guilds and whatnot. Otherwise…. Idk

So in general as hyped as it was gw2 needs a lot of work to keep players. IMO if it turns out this way it shouldve been further enhanced before launching it

But that said we also know there is a lot more on its way which should be ASAP!!! Like new maps definitely on its way since there are lots of sealed gates, unused asura gates, NPCs guarding stuff with teaser msgs and more elder dragons on the loose

But anyway bak to pvp for you

I’m sure at least a few of the things you listed are already on their way.

Lets hope so. And i say the faster the better, this game is losing more and more players every day.

Basically they should take a long hard look at the way BF3 is handling things.

…this game is losing more and more players every day.

I love baseless claims like this.

That said, ANet is currently in the process of expanding upon what we already have. Just be patient.

This is not just a PvP game, nor is it just a PvE game.

But ANet “cut it’s teeth” on PvP. After all, it was the centerpiece of GW1, right? So, I’ve always assumed it would remain a lynchpin for GW2.

In support of that assumption, I think the OP needs to read this:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/structured-pvp-iceberg/

…I also think folks should remind themselves of these two points:

1. ANet is trying to get away from the “traditional” linear model here (they did it in GW1 as well). Thus “end game” content is probably not ever going to be what anyone would expect.
2. MMOs evolve over time. Has there ever been an MMO that wasn’t light on content at launch? Seems to me that, in comparison, GW2 came out of the gate strong with a lot of meat on the bones. It’s the next 4-6 months that are going to be telling. Keep an eye on the rate at which new content is introduced (for example, the Halloween stuff sounds like it may be beefier than what would be typical for a holiday event).

Here’s the thing. What’s stale is video game development. It’s been that way for a while now. The mainstream of the industry keeps churning out the same product over and over again with only slightly altered wrapping.

ANet is attempting not to get caught up in this pattern. It can’t be easy, because an MMO is a massive investment and NCSoft, in terms of expectations, is about as “traditional” a publisher as they come. Guild Wars 2 can’t just be successful. It has to meet expectations. It has to be successful enough for NCSoft to consider it worth the trouble.

When you try new things, they’re not always going to work. They sometimes need to be adjusted, tweaked, refined. An MMO is the perfect genre for that process, and ANet clearly realizes this, because the developers have said as much.

So, my advice is: cut ANet some slack, give ‘em some time and space to get their ducks in a row. If you don’t want ‘same game, different name’, there’s gonna be bumps in the road.

The games been out for just meerly over a month! why are most of the player base moaning “whaaa theres no content whaa” next time you say that or even think that then just remember 1 MONTH! GW2 is the best core i have seen to an MMO since WOW, who remembers WOW when it first started? it was not that amazing , but they expanded on it for many years and now look at it. Anyway just be patient and they will deliver the goods.

I see a lot of praise towards GW2 and rightly so in most areas. The game is extraordinary fun in nearly all degrees, HOWEVER, a complete lack of things to do post 80 (endgame) is telling and ANet seemingly attempting to balance classes to spvp and tournaments is also telling. (Without separating pvp/e content like it was previously, makes pve wrongly “taxed”) especially eye opening that they attempting to balance prior to fixing a majority of often class/weapon breaking bugs…. Thus MY issue with the game, or rather development team. Why are they nerfing classes that may be inappropriately strong due to bugs or other classes are inappropriately weak due to gaping bugs in traits/weapon abilities/etc? I feel as if pve isn’t looked at fairly but treated as a sideshow. “This game has amazing pvp functions and its getting better all the time. Oh yeah, we have a little pve too, in case you get bored of pvp but that shouldn’t happen!”

Overall, I love the game. But I’m worried about the direction that its going. I’ve played my share of mmos and was onboard for a number of new launches and I’ve noticed that sometimes it’s these issues that, if not repaired quickly and effectively enough, will be taxing for the game’s life-span. Especially attempts to balance when a majority of the classes are numerously bugged, and creating new content on the side. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there can be more than one team employed to work on buggies AND content but the question is there.
