Option to turn off other players' spell effects.

It can also get quite taxing on some graphics cards (mine included) where I can drop from my normal ~30-45 fps whilst running around normally to 5-10 during huge encounters, which basically renders me completely unable to react to any major mechanics (if I can even see them) in time to avoid being pummeled to death or what not.
“The best defense is a strong offense.”
I would like a choices:
Turn off ALL spell effects
Turn off Other player spell effects
Turn off all Non combo starter effects
^ This would be the best as you can see effects to combo off of, but don’t have to see that elementals “fireball” / Meteor spell.

In the vast, swirling sea of particles and flashes it is often difficult to see things like red circles and the flash that telegraphs a powerful attack, not to mention my mouse cursor.
Note to would-be responders that this is not a performance issue. My framerate is fine. The issue is simply that information I want to see is often hidden by effects that I do not need to see.

I would like this too, if not completely turn them off, then at least tone them down by about 80%. I can’t find my cursor and my loot.

This has nothing to do with the current discussion, but I’d really like the option to just flat out turn off other players, sometimes.
Edit: For lag reasons and such.
this is a must imo. So many times u cant see a champion because of the insane ammount of effects blasting it. My PC can handle it easily, but as a melee its always fun to get curbstomped because you cant even see the animation to dodge.
Would be nice to have this ! Would be nice to see champions when there are a ton off effects on the screen.
Also for people with a slightly less powerfull pc this option is a must as well ! (specially considering you guys have been REALLY…. REALLY genereus about the so called minimum requirements)
I agree; spell effects can be over the top. I especially have trouble in WvW because of this and would have a better experience if I could choose how many spell effects get displayed on my screen at any given time.
+ 1 for this.
Look at this picture. I can’t even see my Char (it’s a big, orange Charr right in the center of the screen) because of all the effects! And this was an event with ~10 players!

Agreed.
My first impression of gw2 combat system was it is a real mess, with me struggling to locate mobs/players and my own elemental fields on the screen. I got used to it after a while, but certainly don’t like spamming lava font in the middle of a huge mass of animations hoping it is in the right spot or being killed by something I could have avoided, if only the red circle was visible.
Might be I got used to play w/o any animations at all on another game (ugly, but sometimes your CPU just can’t handle it) but the ability to selectively disable some effects is something I really miss.
There I could disable only certain effects, say only mob animations, only mine, only other players, only hit effects or blood effects. I enjoyed that freedom.
This would be a useful feature. My thief got hit twice in quick succession by the champion giant boar in Queensdale yesterday because I simply couldn’t see it and didn’t know when to dodge. Two mesmers cast bubbles over the thing and they completely wiped out any vision of the beast. Didn’t affect it in the slightest, of course, just made life difficult for the rest of us for a few seconds.

You can decrease Animation from graphic options it removes some extra effects from spells
I disagree, if you was unable to see any other players spell effects how could you do combo finishers ect? Just do what geo said and decrease the animations so they are not so over powering.

Decreasing animations doesn’t really help -_-
In some cases you could have 40-50 people attacking at once; in those instances I’m less concerned about combo fields and more focused on trying to see what’s going on. Just allowing people to opt into a feature that reduces spell effects displayed would be nice for these situations imo

This QoL fix would greatly improve the quality of my in-game time.
This might stop my client from crashing during boss fights all the time. So I might actually stay for the duration and get the reward chest. O_O

Yes- better options for spell effects are necessary. The spell effects are really over the top and make targeting difficult in big fights.
