Personalized Voice-Over
Makes me wonder how much dialogue there actually is to record for any given character. A crapton more than you would think, that’s for sure. I would love to have more voice options, but it must cost an arm and a leg to cover every dialogue choice multiple times for each race.
I doubt it would cost that much cause u can knock out a whole storyline within a day and they don’t really need to hire anyone cause they could just have the GW2 staff do it.

not really, you don’t just record random people as it would sound terrible, theres a reason voices are done by professionals.
as for recording your own voice, would you really want to sit around for a day or two reciting all the different options for each character just so you can hear your own mumbled and terribly awkward voice again as you play?
if you ever as a child played with a tape recorder you know your voice will come out terrible
No matter how bad your voice is it’s got to be better than listening to the same voice on all your characters.
I just kind of want a voice pitch slider or something…a couple of my toons voices don’t fit how they look at all lol

Yeah that would also be a cool idea. Just as long as you can change the voice somehow.
I second that idea! I was just thinking how stupid it is that my guildie has a very young girlish looking char, yet it’s voice like a fully grown woman. Given the options we have at character creation (young/middle aged/old) we should have voices that match.
Also personality as well should affect the voice, least in story mode where your character has few things to say other then “thank you” and “you’re welcome”.
Voiceover costs would not be that horrid, because you gotta remember that it’s mostly npcs that do the yapping, and they don’t need new voiceovers. Your own character doesn’t talk that much, save personal story, so it shouldn’t be that bad.
And i would like my menacing char to sound menacing, and her young char to sound young and not like a 30 year old woman having a bad day (no offence to 30 year old women;)
Oh almost forgot. Exception to some of the above are charr. They could get new voice, but what they got now is pretty cool and are not screaming for some character in it, unlike human or norn. Asura’s voice is fine but they could use new lines. I feel like i’m playing the only asura in tyria that ain’t snotty, sacrastic and willing to blow up half of the world for sake of an experiment – inexcusable!

It would be nice but it would be take thousands of man hours and voice recordings to pull something like this off at this time.
Don’t look for this anytime soon in any game
I wouldn’t expect something ike this being in a patch but it would be a great idea for an expansion.
Voice pitch slider is all I’m in favor of that’s realistic. I’d love voiceovers with different accents and inflections, but that’s going to be way too expensive. Just let me make my Norn Necro talk with a high squeaky voice, and my Asuran Mesmer talk with a voice so deep Morgan Freeman would be jealous.
Voice over or just styles overall, something in the fashion of Saints Row (Without the absurdity) because at times… I’d just want to dismember the next one who gets to say “Eat my dust!”.
But doesn’t hearing the same line over and over again make you feel six feet tall?

Not so long as my feedback loop initiates.
Recording audio for player characters and NPCs is a lot more work than most people think. It’s also a lot more difficult. Most of acting is “reacting” to someone else, but for video games, you are typically all by yourself, with a script and the tech people. You get some background about story and context, but you might not have played the game. Like any acting, you will do multiple takes so the director can choose the most appropriate and most consistent with other voices in the same scenes. There are sound and volume checks. There are retakes to change accents, stress certain words, and so on.
It might not be rocket science, but it’s not something that even the professional actors whip out in a day. I agree it would be fun to have some variety of voices — I’d like to be able to recognize when I’m in need of healing vs my guildie vs someone else, but I’m also willing to cut ANet some slack because adding even one voice option for one race/gender combination would take a lot of effort.

Only if I can remember my orders.
