The search feature isn’t picking up the old topics for me- so I want to show my support for player housing and guild halls.

Guild Halls seem like the more realistic expectation considering they’re in GW1. I imagine they’d just be fancy PVP maps with little customization so you can’t create obstacles that would break gameplay…but personally I’d prefer just a meeting spot where you could drag earned assets around (guild bank/vendor) and create some extra flavor with chairs/tables/rugs…

I’ve never been much for housing, but after recently playing other games with housing features, I believe ArenaNet could put their own spin on a housing feature: be it a personal abode or a shared guild hall.

But why add housing? How does it even serve a purpose in the game? Well, what is attractive to me is that the items you get to decorate your house can be rewards by doing almost anything in game. Take down a dragon? Plant its tooth in your Guild Hall. Kill the bandit king? Take his throne for your home.

Crafting, questing, leveling…and putting items in the Gem Store. It creates even more reasons and ways to play- and it gives you a physical representation of certain achievements.

Not that I care about all that- I just want to play house. But I want to play house in a living world. Invite them over for tea, light a fireplace karma buff, and then go on a hunting party for taking down veterans.

One of the excuses for no player housing I see a lot of is that adding housing takes away from people playing in the actual game world. And that if everyone is in their town putting up curtains and selling stuff through their personal auction house…that the game landscape is barren. But, considering you can repair/vendor/bank anywhere at anytime in Guild Wars 2…it really doesn’t matter.

That’s why instanced maps seem to make more sense to me…because ArenaNet might want to involve combat in these areas. Maybe your town has to fend off random events. Maybe every week a new peril strikes and you and your townsfolk have to take up arms against centaurs or Skritt. These townships themselves become mini maps to explore, and players craft cities on top of them…and around (or through) dangerous areas. Build your tower next to that Ettin cave if you want…but…y’know…expect Ettins to come to bakitten down.

Player run communities in the form of instanced towns is an even better substitute for hollow instanced housing- as an MMO, staking out a claim in the world and sharing it in a virtual environment with other people keeps you coming back. You spend ungodly amounts of time in this world- why can’t you have something that feels like you made a mark on the landscape? Even if it is just a replicated Kryta landscape instance?

I love the game and I feel the mechanics we already see in WvW could make for some interesting and unique housing or guild halls. Whether combat happens or not in these towns or guild halls- I think the idea is still relevant.

Anyway, this is just my support being voiced. I do remember reading housing/guild halls weren’t a feature to expect anytime soon, but I do encourage the pursuit of them…the fun quality-of-life stuff goes a long way in an MMO. It is why things like sports, polymuck, or mounts are so appealing.

And why people will buy Quaggan hats and play Super Adventure Box.
Semi-irrelevant fun stuff to mix up the gameplay is awesome. And I do think ArenaNet has made some great early progress in fleshing out these extra activities.

I used to have a main character in one of the bigger raiding guilds in EQ2. My favorite alt along with three or four of my friends and my wife had a small guild on the side. We used it to buy our own personal guild hall. Not a huge one, but decent enough for us. We each had a room we could decorate any way we wanted. One of them was the trophy room where we kept the heads of all the raid mobs in the game that we had come up against at that point. I really wish I still had the screenshots of that room, it was awesome. What was great was, because we ran raids everytime they were off of lockout, we got the secondhand boss trophys for our little guild hall. Our main guild already had em all. Housing is awesome for stuff like that. It gives you your own personal mark on the world.

I like it, they had Guild Halls in GW1.

In GW2 it may take more storage to on their drives to save every guild’s room especially if they all add unique designs and customization.

So if ArenaNet wanted too, they could make it an Epic Journey, x10 times harder to build a guild hall then a legendary etc…

Where they’d open a new tab in the Guild Window for Material Donations.
Lets say theres different types of Guild Fortifications to be had from, wooden, to stone, to iron citadel, and for each different building type, a different set of donations are required.

Make players craft their guild hall.
1,000,000 in wood.
10,000 gold.
1,000,000 in ore.
1000 ecto’s because everything needs ecto’s
even random crafting items, or items you can only purchase from karma vendors.

And the Top 3 guilds to build their houses get to have it displayed in LA. (just a minature display)

not had time to read through the post, going post on here what i’ve previously suggested and read through this properly when i wake up tomorrow :P…

To be able to purchase land, either in the real game or through a instance/shard world and build upon, personalize and expand to your own unique desire and creation.
Available for other players to join you in your home/village/city.
Possibly:
Play Owned Houses
Guild Owned Villages
Guild Owned Cities
Guild Owned Empire/Citadel/Fortress
(village, is what the guild starts with, eventually expanding into the other 2 stages, or potential separate stages that guilds could spend hours developing, proving a home for their guild, with potential reward)
Guild work together within the village/city/citadel to advance either through activities within it or with Gold.
Rewards, xp boost, crafting supplies, whatever you guys can come up with, expanding on this type of idea.
Will give allot of extra end game material for players to explore (i’m at ‘start game’ >.> but to the endgame, which the audience could be made for, or accessible for any player, it could be a great addition to the game with self creating content, at any period of the game experience, within Guilds or solo)

would be great to have a almost non restricted way to create some sort of home individually and as a guild, I can’t really go in depth with the exact idea, i’m not a designer.. but i think it would be great if incremented correctly
Houses:
Variety of rooms and non restricted layouts. Other community members can be invited.
Within the house, maybe some sort of boxing arena for real 1 v 1 duels or just, a boxing glove match for fun times :L
Could invest some of the land into a player owned mine or woodland to have a own personal harvest of crafting materials
Possibilities are huge.
Guild content.
This is just endless and could be done in so many ways :L…
-The Guild contents could be purchased, alike to commander title (hopefully cheaper)
-Purchased on a barebones, most simple starter village/city/citadel…
-It could be contained within in the guild inviting a new variety of complete separate new content, to maintain and advance the guild, with special ores/wood/tasks needed to be done/collcected within the guild content to expand it, or/and using traditional tools and materials from the main game to expand your Village/City/Citadel.
Not going to expand too much as my ideas are just drafts :L
But, the possibilities of this possible feature are endless, even if this was done and issued into the game, even then, there would be so much that could be added to expand the content.
It could be based around some sort of new crafting skill (for the player owned homes atleast) so a new 400 or 80 for us to work on and to get a great experience out of it

Threads like this make me so glad I’m not the only one thinking the same things.

Like you say Vexia the possibilities are endless and having to craft a guild hall/fort would be a long term goal for a guild to work behind. Even though it was totally broken in Conan I do remember all my guild setting out and gathering like mad to get the fort built, it was an epic feeling.

I’m not sure how AN see these threads, maybe they choke on their coffee at the idea. I’m not sure how much work it would take to put this in game, a lot I suspect. However if it does ever get put on the radar please for the love of biscuits, please give them a use/function/context.

Allow a guild to work as a team to build a structure that gives them something they a) really want and b) can’t get anywhere else. Whether that be special crops grown on the fields (for unique receipes which give better WvsW buffs) or a foundry that makes specialised siege weapons.

It’s not rocket science and you guys have shown you are listening to your players, why not have a go at this?

ye it suck to be homeless. Especially more so, since by now i,m completely disappointed by guilds, and gave up all hope of ever finding a good, active guild with no elitist jerks in it, ie player housing is only viable option for me and those like me. Would be nice to have.

I’m always glad to see support for these ideas. And I hope its not a stretch from ArenaNet’s vision, but we can’t really know. I expect they get tired of hearing the same suggestions over and over again, but I’m sure they expect it as part of the job. Whether or not its being worked on and they’re smirking at our curiosity reading the forms, the support in previous threads since launch has definitely made some sort of impact.

Here’s hoping!

Our Home instance though doesn’t really feel like home,
we can’t decorate it,
or pay for npc’s to be there (merchant/bank/trader),
or automatically teleport to it with a push of a button,
to get away from LA, all those people tooting those trumpets.

Looking at the assets in the Home Instance leaves a lot to be desired as well. I feel sorry for the Norn- making a house work in The Great Hall wouldn’t work. At least with the other races there’s enough blocked off area to maybe warrant an extension…like a doorway to a housed instance.

We have the option of adding a Quartz node to it now with the recent Bazaar achievements, but it still doesn’t make it feel any more livable.

If you look at all the great little knick-knacks and doo dads Anet has created though, the potential for decorating a home is limitless. From steam powered benches to war maps- there’s a lot of cool stuff that would be awesome to collect and arrange.

Once again, I only see the addition of housing as a reason to stay even more involved in the game. Logging in to mine that node is a step in the right direction. Imagine logging in and showing off all your cool furniture from Achievements- sets of armor…dungeon trophies.

A lot of potential.

I wish I could say I’ll keep this brief, but I actually have a lot to say on this subject and get extra excited when others are talking about it to. I used to have a house in LOTRO, and I find the housing in Rift very impressive. Some of this will be repeating what’s already said, some not I hope.

I’m not sure I expect to ever see anything too meaningful going on in Home Instances, especially certain ones such as the Norn. Seriously, where would you put a house in there? As long as we do have that Home Instance, we should be able to customize it. But that shouldn’t replace actual legit housing.

I think I’d like to see housing tied to Guild Halls. Maybe it wouldn’t have to be the only kind of housing available, but I think that’s how to get the most out of it.

Suppose they introduce a new portal in all the major cities to a new place in the Mists. Suppose they found a way to master certain parts of the Mists and repurpose it as infinite real estate. And there could be an NPC out there saying how so many mighty guilds have been coming lately to control their own portion of the Mists. Since the Mists allows Anet to create basically anything they can imagine, this might be a better alternative than using real estate in the normal world.

Guilds could pick whatever time period and location they want (out of x-number of choices, hopefully a lot). Once you choose your setting, you can build a whole Guild Town. The town would have spaces for a Hall, individual player houses, various other buildings. There could be full neighborhoods of guildies. The town itself would act like any other zone, but every single house and other building would be something that can be both entered and customized.

Have different sizes of towns available for different size guilds. Little villages for small guilds, something a bit more city-like for those who have hundreds to acomodate. The land itself should be bought with influence (and possibly should be “rented” with more influence, to encourage the guild to remain active).

There should be a new crafting profession (architect maybe) that can build blueprints for various kinds of houses, halls, other buildings. Think of all the new things those woods and ores could be used for. These could be traded for gold on the TP. Probably have yet another crafting profession to build furniture (and PLEASE make furniture actually usable!) There should be some sort of supply mechanic like WvW to build the blueprints. So you’d need to get help from your guildies to get your house built, and you’d especially need a team effort for the larger buildings like the Hall. Building this town wouldn’t be a one-day project. It would be a significant investment of time, effort, and gold.

All the buildings should be upgradable. Not just adding furniture. Maybe have WvW style upgrades (but more variety), or maybe have upgrades be something else that can be crafted and sold on the TP. This could include adding extra rooms or floors. Every building starts with a generic template, but you can add more to it as you see fit.

Then there’s GvG, which could work similar to in GW1. Takes place at your Hall (or Town in this case).

I’ve also imagined Guild Ships (air, naval, even submarine). Housing in that senario would be like your personal quarters on the ship. The ship could spend its time traveling the world (probably would need its own instance for that). But that would be cool I think, having your Hall/House not fixed to the same scenery all the time. Maybe even have naval / air battles for GvG.

I’d like to see some sort of public “town browser” (if you choose for yours to be public). As much fun as it would be building and fighting in your town, it would be cool to be able to check out what other guilds have going on if they want to show it off, and to show yours off. There could even be a star/rating system where the most impressive and popular towns can have some notariety from it. If you win a lot in GvG, maybe be able to have some monument or something flashy in your town that records your guild’s accomplishments for everyone to see (should have something like that for PVE too).

And for icing on the cake, maybe there could be events or guild missions of some sort that can take place there. You could announce in the “real world” that you’re about to start some mission in your town and invite outsiders to come help.

Maybe the guild could even have the option to name the town, similar to naming a pet. Most or all towns in the game have names. Only fair this one can too.

I like the idea of a Guild Hall like we have the room in Bully (R* game).
Basically as you progressed you’d get souvenirs all around it, also having a build ability would be nice and because these would be instances (not mainstream places where everyone could go) I don’t see the problem of offering a lot of freedom even if it risks “breaking” the game.

i like the idea of the guild hall and houses however i think it would take too much time to develop everything when they could just add a generic “land” in you (home) land that you enter and it brings you to your account/character home for housing. the idea of using crafting materials to build is awesome. however small guilds would struggle a little more… but such is life.
